Heres one for you.
Best choice when eating at 5 Guys?
Seems like I can make it out of there under 1,000 calories, but checking to see if anyone has experience with this place.

Little Hamburger with sauteed mushrooms, onions, jalapenos and A1 steak sauce (578 calories)
Little trick: A regular hamburger or cheeseburger at Five Guys means two beef patties. Order the "little" burger with one patty, then load up on vegetables like mushrooms, peppers, onions, tomatoes, and lettuce.
Guilty Pleasure: If you are looking to indulge, skip the American cheese and reward yourself with 2 slices of bacon (only 80 calories)
BLT with 4 slices bacon, lettuce, tomato and mustard (434 calories)
Not so healthy, but under 1000 calories:
Little Cheeseburger with lettuce, tomato, mayo and ketchup (735 calories)
Hot Dog with ketchup, mustard, onions and relish (585 calories)
Little Cheeseburger with bacon, onions, steak sauce and mayo (815 calories)

I think even staying under 1,000 calories will be tricky. Remember that a regular order of fries is 2 servings. So a "little burger" and 1/2 order of fries will put you around 800-900 cals.0

Eliminating the Bun will do 2 things - take away a crap load of carbs and a crap load of calories
also not getting the fries and instead just having the peanuts0 -

Don't know if you would be willing to do this, but I only eat half the bun when I have a burger. Heck, sometimes I don't eat the bun at all, but then that's hardly a burger I guess. But either way cuts out a lot of carbs and calories. Good luck!0

The Little Hamburger is not bad (around 600 cals with most toppings except cheese and mayo). When we go, our family of four splits a single regular order of fries. If it were me, alone, I just wouldn't order fries. The orders are just too large. I realize that the simplicity of their menu is key to the freshness of their food, but I do wish they offered a side item that was friendlier, like a fruit cup or side salad.0

Nothing wrong with indulging once in awhile.
I LOVE 5 Guys but I gave up beef a few years ago so it has been a long time since I've had a burger. But theirs are about the best out there hands down. Definitely get the "little" burger. Skip the cheese, bacon and mayo, and load it up w/veggies and mustard. I'm a sucker for fresh cut fries, get the small order if you have someone to share them with. Skip them if you don't.0 -

Thanks All. Not a common place for me to eat, but it is a friends birthday, and thats where he wants to go.
Veggie burger has trans fat, so I try and stay away from it.
Eating half the bun is a great suggestion. I typically take the top half off and eat the rest of the burger with a fork and knife when I am out at other restaurants.
Looks like I will be doing a little burger with mushrooms, pickles and A1. Water to drink. Steal a couple of fries from my neighbor (will save me calories and money.) :-)

5 guys is so GOOD!! My only suggestion would be to get a little hamburger and only eat a few fries. Good luck and enjoy the hell out of that burger!0

Unless they have added a veggie "burger", it is just a bun w/vegetables on it, not a "veggie" patty. Kind of defeats the purpose of going to a burger joint.0

I think you should endulge but I always make sure I can alot for the calories or I have a hard workout before I do it. I mean come on 5 guys and fries? I personally love my heart rate monitor for these purposes. I actually ate their yesterday and I made sure I paid the band before I danced0

It's rude, when someone asks for one thing (strategies for not breaking the calorie bank at a given restaurant) to respond with an imperative that is not helpful, not useful, and does not directly address the question asked -- eg, a response along the lines of "Don't go there!"0 -

Honestly, not to many healthy options there. I ended up going with my husband who loves burgers and Im a vegetarian (odd combo right lol?). Anyways, they have a "veggie sandwich" is basically any veggies you want on a bun which was 450 calories I think. Thats what I ended up getting because it was basically my only option aside from fries! I think the little cheeseburger has around 560 calories in it and my husband said it was the best burger he ever had! Although Im sure the saturated fat and cholesterol is through the roof!0

I think an unqualified "Don't go there" is rude in the context of the original request, yes. It is at the very least not useful; I assume that if not going was an option, the OP wouldn't have asked. You may be right about the OP, but I have asked questions in the past and had similar useless replies, and I thought them rude. If you can't say something useful or encouraging, why say anything?
No, Five Guys isn't the easiest place to find healthy options, but there are ways to make better choices (if not "good" choices, at least "better" ones) there.

Oh my gosh their fries are so insanely good!! The cajun ones? I die!! My boyfriend is 6'4" and 200 pounds of sheer muscle, so he goes and eats whatever the heck he wants. I eat beforehand and just nibble a few fries...om nom!!
I also think it's sort of rude and unhelpful to just say, "Yeah, I got a solution--don't eat crappy food at crappy restaurants!" I see this all the time on the boards and I'm not sure what that kind of response is hoping to achieve. People obviously intend to continue eating at their favorite places, or they wouldn't be asking the question...I think it's admirable to make small positive changes and people shouldn't just be shot down.
It's one thing to say, "I'm not sure you're going to find a food you enjoy there for the calories you're looking to stay under," but "How about not going there" defeats the purpose of the answer. You're not telling them anything they don't already know, and often absolute restrictions will cause people to revert back to where they were before their lifestyle shift.0 -

I'm a long time vegetarian married to a meat eater, too! :happy: Ed's very good about eating whatever I make (as long as it's not lentil loaf). I make his lunches and those are meat based. But, breakfast and dinner are vegetarian if we eat at home. He doesn't care...he was living on ramen and L'il Debbie when we got married. :laugh:

The other thing about it is that a lot of times when people ask that question, it's because they didn't choose the place -- the restaurant was somebody else's pick, and they're trying to maintain friend/family connections while still making good food choices. IOW, a lot of times it's not that somebody here has their heart just set on a place that's unhealthy (that's what cheat days are for!), it's that they're trying to find a balance between their needs and friends/family members' wants.
So a snarky, judgemental-sounding "Don't go there!" is very discouraging. If you had a choice under those circumstances, well, you wouldn't go there!0 -

So what I would do too!! 5 guys is very yummy! VERY happy we don't have one close by...lol. But when I have to go to Huntsville for a class for work, we go there. Their fries are just awesome.0 -
You know what you're getting into when you go to a place like 5 Guys. A delicious meal that will cost you some calories. You know what's going to add the most calories, i.e., bacon, cheese, fried/sauteed stuff as opposed to lettuce, tomato, onion. If you don't go there a lot, then get whatever the hell you want...burger wise. Don't eat the fries. They'll crush your diet and you'll end up eating more than you want because of how much they give you/how they serve them.
Eat a salad or something before you go if you're worried that one burger won't fill you up. And load up on some of the toppings as previous people said. Enjoy it. I'm not saying you specifically, but in general, I don't understand why people want to go to Chipotle or something and get the "healthiest" thing possible that they won't enjoy nearly as much. Exercise a little extra, eat less of what you really want, etc. if you're gonna go to a fast food place. Cheating is necessary for the average person. I'd go insane if I didn't eat sh*tty once in a while. That much self discipline/torture is too intense.0 -
