I think if you're already dreaming about what you'll be eating months from now, maybe your diet is too restrictive on a daily basis.

Yep, agreed. It's way too early to think about Christmas anyway, so you must be desperate for a treat!

I have a little treat every Sat.

I definitely don't log on Xmas day, or birthdays.

I have a roast dinner every week

It's easy to keep within calorie goals if you choose carefully and weigh

and christmas dinner is just a big ol' roast

For me the problem isn't the one day of Christmas- it's a whole month of nights out, treats at work, tins of biscuits, Christmas fair at school etc. this year I am going to try to log as many days as I can and save my treats for special events rather than every day of December.

I plan on upping the exercise in December in an effort to keep a balance. January can be dismal enough without thinking about an extra 8lbs - 1 stone weight gain.

That means I get to enjoy the 1 Christmas party I will attend this year ( I can make up for it next year!) and all the trimmings that will be around for the 2 -3 day Christmas period.

New years eve will also be a quiet one this year. I would love to kick off 2015 with a good walk in beautiful scenery with my family, having no hangover. This to be followed by a lovely lunch out, somewhere in beautiful Connemara.

Do we have to talk about Christmas in October?

Let me discuss my Halloween cooking at least.

    TAMALES!
    PIERNA!

I am not leaving those babies behind, I will burn to earn them.
  • I live in Australia and we don't celebrate Halloween or Thanksgiving. On Christmas, my birthday and Easter (celebrated more in Australia) I let the diet go also being on 1200 net calories diet my appetite has shrunk so it's not like I'm binging majorly.

    OnlyChristmas day mind you

But to be fair Turkey, roast tatties (in trex), boiled veggies and a couple of trimmings aren't going too overboard. Christmas pudding I avoid anyway as I don't like it, and favour a cheesecake or something similar instead.

I've got about 9 people coming over so I'll be stuffed if I can be bothered weighing and counting calories / WW propoints on that one day as well

Boxing Day everything turns to normal

    Who's with me?

    What is this...diet...you speak of?

Thanksgiving and Christmas are easily going to be 2k+ days for me. My grandma makes the best chocolate truffle for Thanksgiving, and Christmas is where my stepmom makes a giant prime rib. You bet your behind I'm filling up!

Luckily I'll build a big enough deficit during the week through intake and exercise of those to cover them. :)

It's a week and a half until peppermint season, so yes.

I don't do a big dinner on Christmas day because we have to go visit several relatives. Usually I'll throw a ham in the crockpot that morning and call it good. Thanksgiving however I usually make a huge feast, and yes it will be a diet free zone. :D

That in no way answers the question unfortunately, but thanks for trying.

The holiday pounds would probably not be a big deal for ANYONE if we'd actually just stick to our diets except for the holiday itself.

I will have a piece of candy or two on Halloween.
I will enjoy the Thanksgiving feast.
I will enjoy the Christmas feast.

Those are three days in a span of eight weeks. If I stick to my calories the rest of the time, I can't see this being a significant problem.

I'm not sure about you guys but I cannot go all out like that anymore... I will eat whatever I want on a holiday but portion size is key for me... otherwise I will have the *kitten* for weeks haha. I'm serious, binging now rots my gut.

But that's practically the entire meal.

Agreed. I'm going to kill and eat an elf. I'm not logging it either!

 Exactly! I never log on Christmas, it only comes once a year and I plan on enjoying myself! To heck with calorie counting! ;)

Aaahh way too early to talk about Christmas. I refuse to do anything for a holiday before it's even the month that it's in! But yes.. for me, any holidays, special family days, etc. are "diet free days". This is not a diet, this is a healthy lifestyle. You can't be expected to be so strict everyday of your life.

Yikes! No cheating? Good for you though. I think if you would prefer walking away from a holiday meal not bloated and sick haha then do it up!

I pay less attention to being good on holidays and special occasions, such as weddings or birthdays.

How many feasting holidays do we really have in the US? Halloween (candy),Thanksgiving, Christmas, Easter, 4th of July.... am I missing one?

5 days/meals. I think its the day to day stuff that throws us off course, not the holiday dinners.

Christmas is going to be difficult for me. I am a Christmas baker. I make cookies, squares, and other decadent goodies. I give them as gifts and people look forward to them every year.

Also its my birthday on the 26th. I have done so well on mfp I dont think I will go hog wild but I bet I will put on a couple with the taste testing I will be doing.

    Wish me luck...7ipym6s7r3s3.jpg
