    I am back one more time. Seems I always come back to this thread with good intentions then life gets in my way! Well at least I took the step and signed up at the gym today. I paid for a year and have an appointment with a personal trainer tomorrow. A step in the right direction! My goals for November are:
    1. to get on this site and log!
    2. Get regular time at the gym
    3. Lose 4 pounds to get back in 'onederland'!

    I have not read any posts because I am at work. Have to get back to it!

  • Thanks all for sharing your thoughts on eating back your exercise calories. I think I'll see how each day goes. If tummy's growling and hungry, and have exercise calories to eat, I will. If not, then I think I'll just use the extra deficit. Don't want to get too low on calories, cause then I know my body will cut back too in metabolism.

    Hello again!
    did almost 11 miles walking yesterday then did weights last night before bed. My daughter asked for sushi for dinner instead of the soup but the walk afforded me the extra calories. Finished a 30 minute walk during lunch and had a colorful assortment of vegetable sticks to munch on this afternoon.

    I am having the same issue. I used to have the ticker then it "disappeared". Trying to put it back. Must be a problem with MFP.

    Good morning ladies and welcome to the new week. Weigh in this morning was not good and I have no one to blame but myself. I had a great weekend, as two of grand daughters from Iowa came to Kansas to DSIL's and we had a very nice visit. Also our DDIL and grand baby also came with them as a surprise. So feel very Blessed. Ate to much, but had good time. Today is a new day. Today DH and I have been married 30 years. Where has the time gone?? We are both working today, and that is ok. We celebrated this last weekend with family.
    Halloween evening I went out with several of the DGC and we walked for over an hour, so got my steps. Not alot of children out this year. Glad I got candy at our house I do not like as have alot left, so DH will have snacks for awhile.

    Juanita--Snow, you can keep it. I love these cooler temps, but not ready for snow yet!

    Margaret--One year I gave out Halloween pencils and they seemed to go over well.

    We turned our heat on acouple days ago and seems there might be a problem. I am not happy as just had it put in last Fall. DH is taking care of calling the guy to come out.

    Mary--Happy b-lated birthday.

    Liz--I totally agree. the laugh of a child can make any day brigther.

    Welcome Barb--This is a great group. I have lost close to 150 pounds and would like to lose about 50 more. The one thing I have learned is this is a lifestyle change and only one day at a time. Most important thing is not to give up no matter how many times you have to pick yourself up and start again.

    Sylvia--Sounds like this dog needs lots of love and understanding, he sure found the right person. Hope DH enjoied his BD party with the DGC. Just read about the dog fight.

    Joyce--glad to met with DD's friend went well.

    Heather--DH deserves a hug. I am glad he feels better and who knows maybe what he said we sink in. I understand how hard it is to keep quite when you know someone is not looking at all the facts and wanting to fix things. I have issues with that also.

    Sure looks like we could get some rain. DH wants me to go to Compos meeting with him this evening. I would just like to go home to bed. Loved seeing the grand daughters from Iowa over the weekend, just not enough sleep and I am working tomorrow as other girl is sick. They had an popcorn party for our dept this afternoon as we have 100 percent of us that got the flu shot. I told myself I would not eat any, but the bag kept talking to me and now it is gone. So much salt. Enjoy the evening ladies,

    Tuesday morning and Melbourne Cup Day. Stan got the paper.
    Yesterday we went shopping and I had forgotten it was a Public Holiday. Woolworth's was open so did the groceries and fruit and veg. Only shop open was fish and chip shop, so got chips between us and fish each (yes battered) and ate them at the river. Tasted good but naughty. Still my food calories were only 1777, so Ok.
    Not many steps yesterday for Jeannette's Sexy Abs, and not many for shopping, went for 1 hour road walk and was sunny. So steps 8915 for yesterday. Weight stayed the same this morning, not surprised as sodium high.
    Dietitian, doctor and butchers tomorrow, Wednesday.
    Today is Jeannette's Cardio sculpt (1 hour) and 1 hour road walk, plus ironing and cleaning house.
    Made a broccoli, chicken and mushroom casserole and it is in slow cooker for dinner.
    Dietitian said to eat between 1600 and 1900 calories a day and I do NOT eat back calories. Today is 1615 and exercise = 708 cals.

    Yeah a new month and a new week!

    Took the dogs to a obedience trial on Saturday as a warm-up for the show that I actually care about this coming weekend.

    Talga, the younger dog, did a nice job. He will get a little panicky if he thinks he messed up or can’t remember the right answer. He did a lovely job. Had a couple a major errors, but recovered nicely. He got to the edge of “that” look once, but settled back into working. He got a qualifying score for his first couple of obedience championship points.

    Zedd, my older experienced dog, was on fire in the Utility class. I messed him up (causing him to not qualify in Utility) but he kept right on working. He nailed all the little parts of all the exercises in that class. I also entered him in Open because it had been a while since he had done two classes in one day. He was tired and a bit of a butthead in that class. It was not pretty, but gave me the information that I need to be ready for next week. (Make sure the blue dog gets a drink of water BEFORE going in the second class!!)

    We got out of the show by noon, so had plenty of day left to get work done. We took care of the trash, got feed in for the cows, and got a good hard dog walk in before dark. I made some mulled wine as a special treat and jarred most of it into individual serving sizes so I can enjoy it later.

    Sunday was cold and rainy. I finally broke down and turned the heat on in the back part of the house. I whimped out on doing anything useful. I took the dogs for a brisk walk to wear them out, then went out for a movie and late lunch/early dinner. Being a slug, doesn’t allow for many extra calories, so I just had a very light dinner and kept busy the rest of the evening doing the food prep for the first half of the week. (Dinner in the crockpot!!)

    I still need to pack the camper and plan the meals for this weekend. The dogs love traveling, so they will have a great time.

    Good evening,

    Our dish has been out since Saturday with all the wind; couldn't get through to tech people all weekend. Just got them to agree to send a tech tomorrow----$95.00 for a service call!!!! But I am getting free premium channels for a month because I told them they needed to make up for not being staffed adequately over the weekend to answer calls.

    I've taken four people for colonoscopies the past year..........why, why, why do they all (without fail) feel the need to show me their inside bowel pictures? I've seen as many polyps as I ever need to and more. Is it just me or is this rather odd? Do you show others as usual practice? I'm not terribly upset; just find this very strange......haven't worked as an nurse for years and I'm honestly just there as needed transportation.


    I try to eat at 1200 and don't worry about going over a bit occ. I don't count exercise calories as I don't do that much......but I'm pretty short........I don't see 1200 working for someone tall.

    Enjoy Kenny Rodgers.......used to love his music; didn't realize he was still touring...good for him!

    Katniki......No answers for you to solve your lack of weight loss. Seems like soccer should burn up a ton of cals. Glad you got to rest up last weekend; sounds like you have a lot of very busy long days.

    Sylvia........Hope dear Spot enjoyed his nap......tell him I'm jealous........Belated Happy Birthday to your DH. Good joke!

    Heather I agree with you. I am too active to survive very long on 1200 calories. When a few pounds creep back. I try to up my water and watch my portions.

    smiley-sport033.gifI am way behind on steps today so I should be moving rather than sitting at the computer...thus I just dropped in to say hello and wish everyone great success today.....I focus on eating on nutrition dense food and avoid wasting my precious calories on food and drink that offer my body no nutrition. I eat my exercise calories because I need fuel to keep me going.

    Sorry I haven't been around as much. I'm getting back to regular workouts after our trip. Today I did upper body strength training, yoga and treadmill. I made a big pot of soup and cornbread tonight. Getting more more veggies in now. I'm glad I only have 2 pounds to work on after such a good trip!

    HI went to dr,she ordered a chest X-ray,just called and I have fluid on 1 lung,need to schedule an echo and take steroids and water pill

    Allison, I to am very tired of the political ads. We live in Southwestern Indiana and our cities 3 TV stations are the ones who western Ky can get. We aren't having the big elections in this midterm like Ky is so we get all the ads for Ky. Candidate A says how terrible candidate B is going to be or has been in the past. The very next minute you have candidate B touting herself and saying how terrible candidate A is. No wonder we have low vote turn outs. Everyone is totally confused

    Well I'm glad we only bought a 230 piece bag of candy and they are the mini sized. No telling how many I would have eaten

    My doctor says I should be on a 1300 calorie diabetic diet so I don't eat my calories back. And speaking of steps, my fitbit registered 2150 steps during the night. Do nnot know what in the world it got that. Only thing I have done differently with the fitbit is that I have lost my wrist band for sleep and am wearing a sports bra and just put in my bra.

    Sylvia, you remind me so much of my daughter. We knew when she fostered Trevor that it was a 'foster fail' and we all knew she would adopt him.

    Hi everyone! Thanks for being so welcoming to all of us newbies! I'm back on track today after really falling off the wagon for Halloween. I did do something, however, that made me feel a little better. Years ago someone told me that "It's not what you eat in any one day that makes a difference. It's what you eat over the entire week/month/etc." So, I added all the calories that I had eaten for seven days and then divided by seven to get the average caloric intake per day. It really made me feel much better! It made me realize that I have made a lot more good choices than bad choices during the week. Don't ask me why, but somehow that fact made it easier for me to get back on track!

    I do have a question about abbreviations. I see many of you use DSIL, DH, DDIL. Some of these I think I can figure out following the context of the post, but some I'm just soooo lost! Can someone tell me where I can learn what the abbreviations mean?

    I have over 10,000 steps today for the first time in almost two months! The heel is talking to me a little, but it's mostly a whimper. I finally feel like I can begin normal walking again and that makes me feel better. It is somewhat offset by having something wrong with my shoulder. I made a movement last Friday with my hands in a "goalpost" position -- nothing drastic or anything -- and, since then, I am having lots of trouble moving my left arm. I see the rheumatologist for a recheck on Friday so I will probably be getting a shot of steroids in the shoulder (we talked about that should bothering me when I was there last month). It is so aggravating because I had just begun a new weight lifting regime.

    I have spent lots of time recently chauffeuring my daughter around since she's still avoiding driving. She still does not have the results of the MRI that was done last Tuesday. I am not a happy camper about that! Today, I took her to see the psychiatrist to get the new meds for migraines started. She was crying when she came out and said that the psychiatrist didn't know anything about the new meds because the neurologist had just referred her for a psych evaluation. Katherine was furious! She is so miserable physically and it is really beginning to take a toll emotionally since her money has pretty much run out and she has been out of work for a month yet is still no closer to an answer.

    I am still working both jobs. The pastor of the second job (the one who told me he was not "putting any skin in the game" regarding the matter of me having work dumped on me at the last minute), has actually volunteered to help me get stuff together for the thing that I told him I didn't have time to do. That made me feel a bit better, but I still feel uneasy about the job.

    In cleaning up and partially packing up my house, I evidently put my extra checks somewhere very safe. You know, the safe place where even you can't remember where it is! I am so frustrated! I typically don't write too many checks except to church so I will probably have to have them sent directly from the bank for the time being. I need to have the job thing settled so that I know whether to proceed with the loan for the townhouse or not. Arrggghhhh!

    As for eating back exercise calories, I eat part of mine. I am set at just over 1400 calories and that is not enough if I am active. I typically don't eat all of them back and I let my Fitbit do all of the calculations for me (meaning I don't enter exercise into MFP). I figure I'm getting more exercise than just the steps so that it works out in the end. When I am able to exercise regularly again, I am going to attempt the TDEE method again which would bump me up to around 2,000 calories per day but no exercise calories.

    Rita - I'm so glad to see you! I hope you are feeling better.

    I am so proud of myself! I made it all the way to November 1 without turning on any heat. Of course, November 1 was when our temps got only to the mid-forties with no sun so I was just lucky.

    I apologize for not responding more individually. Time has been scarce and I've been barely keeping up with the reading. Know that prayers have been said, kudos awarded, and giggles shared as I have read.

    For the first time in a long time, I clocked up 18,000 steps (garmin) . I try not to eat my exercise calories back but sometimes do. I was following the 12wbt program which allocated me 1200 calories. I sometimes find it very tough and wonder if that is why I have fallen on the wagon so many times this year - some thinking to do :)

    (*) Research natural arthritis pain management.
    (*) Eat slower. Try for 20 chews per bite.
    (*) Continue working out for 50 minutes per day, 6 times per week.
    (*) Once per week, practice my Spanish.
    B) Word for 2014 = Release

    Welcome, Marilyn. There used to be an extensive thread on that topic, written by an expert. I will try to find it. The answer lies somewhere between yes and no (how's that for clarity). If you do tons of exercise and are at your goal weight, people typically eat their exercise calories back. Most of us are not in that category, however and overestimate our calorie burning ability in my opinion. I have heard that MFP often overestimates calories burned.

    Good news! Spot figured out the doggie door! Hubby had all three in the yard playing when I took DGD to Girl Scouts, then he noticed that Spot was gone. He found him inside on the sofa relaxing. Then after I got home all three went outside. We heard flip-flap, and there was Molly. Another flip-flap and there was Bruno. Then a third flip-flap and there was Spot. Maybe I can sleep tonight knowing he can go out when he needs to.

    Voting tomorrow...yippee! Will be glad when it's over.

    Did a segment of "10 Minute Butt Lift" DVD, held my plank for 2 min 40 sec (that's 5 seconds more than previously!) then took the extremepump class. The plan for tomorrow is to do a downloadable spinning program

    Joyce - I'm so glad things went well with Michelle's bf and you both. It' so neat how Charlie made a turn around regarding him. I also like the fact that he had such good manners. Sounds like someone Michelle deserves. Someone once recommended that when you have pie, not to eat the crust. I tried this and it wasn't that bad.

    Sharon - have fun at the concert! Willpower? What's that? I eat out of boredom, but I do find that if I take healthy snacks with me to the movies, I eat those and don't have the soda and popcorn. What movie did you see?

    Well, I may be in NC, but to me "where's summer?" I've had enough of winter already. I know, I know, it's only November.

    Alison - those political ads will end tomorrow. That's what I keep looking forward to

    Pat - Now I totally understand about the ground beef. I thought maybe you were going to use it in a casserole or something. When my kids were little and we lived in the Poconos, I always had meats in my freezer. Actually, we used a food service. It was so convenient to have things right in the freezer and not have to go out to the store all the time. Sounds like you buy it already vacuume packed. I don't think I can recall any store that does that, you are so lucky.

    Penny - thanks for that listing. I have such a hard time leaving a bit on my plate. I don't have a problem not taking much, but there is just something about my not being able to leave a bit on the plate. I'm sure this is ingrained in me from the "clean your plate" theory. I'd say that for the most part, I do all the other things, but I have the hardest time leaving a bit on my plate. Now if it's something that I don't care for (like a roll), that I wouldn't have a problem leaving. But not some veggies or meat

    Marilyn - I think most people eat back their exercise calories. I really don't. I just find that adding in my exercise (and getting more calories to eat) gives me a false sense of security. If I go over somewhat on the calories for the day, I know deep down inside that I have a "buffer"

    lavagirlangie - welcome! Why not have an appetizer of fresh veggies? I remember one year I made a sweet potato casserole with bananas in it. This year I'm thinking about making a sweet potato casserole (since I'm probably the only one who'll eat it) with merangue on top.

    I don't know what it is, but lately things seem to be getting real hectic. Exercised, then had senior bowling, then came home to fix dinner and bring in 95% of the Halloween decorations. Mahjongg tonight. Tomorrow I'm supposed to volunteer at the Green Room, then I want to do some more of the painting of the ceramic ladybug I got. I don't want to lose my momentum for that. Tonight the gal whose house we were at invited me to her house on Wed at noon to watch the next season of Downtown Abbey (before it comes to the US -- not sure how she gets it, I think her son somehow does). I asked Ken & Lynette over for dinner sometime this weekend and the other day on the weekend I'll take the drive from the gal with the DA episodes and can show it on my TV. I know at least one lady can't go on Wed. afternoon. Then Thurs we're supposed to go out to lunch with the Newcomers and then bowling in the evening. Friday night Vince is going to go to a Lionel train show, don't know if I'll go with him or not -- maybe I'll do the cooking for when Ken & Lynette come here.

    Heather – my my we could be twins I get in and try to sort things out for others when I see disaster coming too!!! I have a friend who shared a saying with me …and while I can’t remember it completely but the basic was be concerned with world peace, justice, and hunger but let go of everything else….

    Marilyn – great job! 4lbs off!!! I exercise everyday (a dog walk) and most of the time eat under ½ back; but then there are those days when I eat every single one and have to do something more so I stay under!

    Terri – I used to love Kenny Rogers; saw him in concert a number of times he does a great job.

    Kat – could it be the level of activity you have put yourself at? That affects the calorie count….

    Kim, we can't forget about DGD or DGS. Dear grand son and dear grand daughter. I had always thought of it as dear and didn't even consider it to be darling or dummy.

    Since I am the Queen of Procrastination, I finally called contractors today, water mess was over a week ago. We had gotten 2 from our insurance agent. I have a feeling that they probably have a deal with the insurance company, then two from trusted friends. I was only able to physically talk to 2 of them. One will come out Wednesday for estimate. The other wouldn't even be able to get to us until after the first of the year! OOPS. WE have Thanksgiving and Christmas down in that room that is actively growing mold. I sure hope that the others can get to us earlier. But he said he will give us an estimate anyway just so we can have another one to compare with. He is an old church family friend from my old church I went to. He did some work on the first house we bought right after we were married and the end price ended up to be more than the estimate was. My DH about flew through the roof. He never wanted to see that guy again. So when I told him I was going to call Ron he emphatically said no. I reminded him of all those shows on HGTV and how they fix up old houses the end price is more because you never know what is behind the walls, roof, etc. His reply was that once a crook, always a crook. So I asked him if he didn't believe people can change for the better. Nope, doesn't happen. So I reminded him of some of the things he did as a younger man, not teenager type age but a man in his 20s and 30s. He saw my point there. He did make some mistakes and has learned and became a better man. So I guess I'm kind of glad that we can not give the job to Ron because Charlie will always be questioning him. For one thing, he is always leary of 'Christians' doing work for us.
