Good reasons to be HEALTHY...
Self-confidence
The ability to pack heavy objects
Self-confidence
Less chance of having to be on meds for diabetes, high bp, etc...
Self-confidence
Sleep better! That's a good one.
Oh! And the boost in self-confidence is better than any chocolate. And I love chocolate.0 -

Replace "skinny" with "healthy".
The only numbers that actually matter are the ones you get at the doctor's office.
Clothing size is not an indicator of health or well being.0 -
Feeling good at the end of each day because you weren't carrying around a ton of excess weight. Being overweight is exhausting.
Feeling good every morning because you slept better and more comfortably.
Feeling good at every meal because you can eat a reasonable amount and be satiated, instead of being hungry all the time for more to maintain an overweight physique.
Feeling good during high-movement activities, like walking a theme park, helping a friend move, rearranging furniture, dusting the house, etc because you're not out of breath.

Good reasons to be thin? IMHO there aren't any. There are reasons, but in and of themselves I don't think they're all that good. For instance, I would never tell a healthy person that there's any good reason for them to lose weight just to be thin.
But good reasons to be healthy? TONS!
- Living a long and fulfilling life
- Being there for the people you care about
- Avoiding painful and debilitating health problems like heart disease, stroke, diabetes...
- Having the strength and energy to do the things you want to do, whether it's travel the world, hike a mountain, run a race, volunteer on a project, or whatever it is you want to do
- Setting a healthy example for others (e.g. your kids) so they can also lead long, healthy fulfilling lives0 -
Good reasons to be healthy, eat right amounts and exercise: things that run in the family, osteoporosis, diabetes, back pain, high cholesterol etc.
Be active and able to do the things you've always wanted to do when you retire.0 -
Having lost eighty pounds so far, I can say the benefits are huge!
- Diabetes in remission.
- Off blood pressure meds.
- Off Cholesterol meds.
- Big improvement in mobility; I am in a running class now! if you had told me a year ago I would be running, I would have laughed in your face.
- I went shopping at Old Navy on the weekend; first time ever. I am now within the "normal" sizing.
- I have a waist. Which means I can bend and reach.

I don't think there is any reason to be thin, unless you are a distance runner or ballerina. However, I think there are many reasons to be FIT (as you can definitely be thin and totally out of shape). The reasons are what everyone else mentioned, but being thin doesn't mean being healthy or fit.0

That's amazing! I'm so impressed! I've tried to convince my mom that those things ARE possible with lifestyle changes, but she refuses to believe. It's hard to watch, but there's only so much I can do. I do, however, love seeing others make the progress you have!0 -
I prefer to be thin because I feel I look way sexier this way. Yep, it's all about the sexy.0

Easier to outrun the zombies (or at least outrun your fat friends during the zombie apocalypse).0

BZAH, I got there with a LOT of help, not just lifestyle changes. I have a team assigned to me including a Dietitian, a Physio therapist, a Psychologist, and a Surgeon. I had gastric bypass surgery this past summer, losing 40 lbs before surgery and now 40 lbs afterwards. Your mom is right to be concerned if she can do this on her own.0

It contributes to being healthier
You look better
You feel better (Less aches and pains!)
More energy
Ability to do exercises you couldn't do before
Cuter clothes
Cuter bras
Faster showers (and less soap required!)
Less $ spent on groceries (you can eat less)
You fit in places you didn't before (e.g. You can walk around the grocery cart in the checkout lane to empty it)
Less hot on the summer! (but colder in winter, so trade-off)
Less self-conscious at the pool
Driving is easier and more comfortable (especially nice on long trips!)
You fit into airplane seats
You fit into rollercoaster seats, car seats, on toilet seats (you just fit everywhere you should)
Clothes take up less room in washer and suitcase, saving time and money
Strangers are nicer, more friendly
You never have to worry about being the fattest one in the room
No speech from the doctor about your weight (and no guilt about making yourself unhealthy)
Gardening is easier
Washing the floor on your knees is easier
Tying your shoes isn't a production
Pretty much EVERYTHING is easier when you don't have fat involved, in the way and slowing you down
You feel sexier during sex
Shopping is more fun (and can shop with thin friends, in the same store)
More room under desks, can cross your legs
Running up stairs is easier (and faster)
You spend a million less minutes thinking and worrying about fat, which lets you think about other, better things - you're happier.
You're proud of yourself
You can be the thinner person who doesn't do mean things to fat people, like say, "Oh, I'm so fat!" to someone 2-3x bigger than you, talk about how gross fat is in front of them or give unsought advice.0 -
Not getting upset while trying on clothes
Having more confidence and secure about yourself
Overall better health
More stamina

I want to sleep better. That is honestly about 95% of my motivation. The other 5% is not wanting to buy new clothes because I'm lazy0
-
I'd rather replace "thin" with healthy & strong... just saying. I don't want to be thin.0
-
As you get older, it's a lot easier to move around when you aren't overweight. So it keeps you young. I am assuming you mean "healthy" or "fit" as opposed to just "skinny" or "thin". I'm not sure why anyone would want to be thin or skinny. It doesn't look anywhere near as good as lean and fit. And it doesn't feel anywhere near as good either.0

Easier to buy bras
Can shop in the juniors section if you need more selection0 -
