I have Wei Rui weightlifting shoes and I bought them at the link below. They were the ones on clearance for $45. I really like them and you can't beat an actual weightlifting shoe for 45 bucks.

ETA: I don't really know anything. I am happy with them though.

I want some dl slippers with little flowers on them for my comp.

Or maybe not, since it will be a room of lifters, and not my normal gym denizens. lol.

I bought New Balance Minimus shoes. They mostly run a bit more than $100, but at www.joesnewbalanceoutlet.com I got mine for $40. They might be last year's style but who cares. Haven't received them yet, so can't comment on quality, but there are a number of Minimus styles and they include in the description that they're good for weightlifting.

I agree minimal shoes are a great option. I buy mine at sierratradingpost.com 40-80% off last years colors. Subscribe to their eFlyers for discount coupons.

My current favorites are ASICS GEL-Fortius TR. I've also loved Merrell Barefoot shoes and New Balance Minimus 20v3. You can lift in them but also do a little cardio in them as well.

Yeah, Converse really gouges on the price for Chucks. I don't know if that happened when Nike bought them or not, but at one time they were inexpensive shoes.

The cheapest official variant is the "One Star DX Oxford" only available at Target for $35 which is still pretty lame because a few years ago they were $20.

The best knockoff I've found is from Walmart- the "Faded Glory - Men's Stinson Oxford Lace-up Sneakers" for $13. I've been using these as my standard daily shoe for a couple years now, and they usually last about four months before getting a hole in the sole. Though my current pair has lasted about twice that, so maybe they improved the quality. Or maybe it's just a freak pair.

I love my New Balance Minimus. Got them last year. I have fairly large wide feet and they fit true to size for me. They are wearing well, and wash easily. Am considering getting Olympic shoes for squatting though.

Chucks the whole way. They're inexpensive, serve their purpose, and really not much different from any other flat, hard soled shoe you're going to pay a hundred bucks more to buy.

I like to lift in my Nike free 4.0 V3s. I'll be very disappointed when they discontinue them. The frees are good for lifting because they don't compress and give you a more natural range of motion.

If you have a DSW, Off Broadway Shoe, Marshalls, or TJMaxx near you, they often have low top chucks on clearance for about 20$. High tops aren't as common on the clearance shelves. The colors aren't always the prettiest but meh.

When I lifted in a gym, I used Chucks - either high or low tops.

    I lift at home now:
It's either socks or socks and slippers I got from Payless.

Payless has knockoff Vans and Converse under the Airwalk line

Checkout Rogue for some ideas http://www.roguefitness.com/. There own line is pretty popular and not very expensive. Also, I have used cheap dress shoes with good results since they have a hard supportive sole and are almost as good as a real lifting shoe.

Yup. I was on there all day yesterday and on Eastbay. Eastbay has better deals so I'm going with them.

I've heard great things about Eastbay but they don't seem to have a Canadian presence so for me Rogue is the better option. Sucks having to pay duty!

I got Romaleos for squatting and bench and wear seriously cheap Chuck knock-offs for deadlifting.

You can wear Chucks for both but it depends on your squat style and ankle flexibility how well they'll suit for squats long term.

I love the feeling of being stuck to the floor that I get with Romaleos.

New Balance Minimums- not good for heavy abuse honestly- the rubber grips on mine started giving way within 3 months- but I have had them for 2 years now and I still reach for them regularly- run- jump- squat- dead- all the things. Great for just mucking about the city too if need be.

I'm honestly to cheap to buy a pair of frigging chucks for 45$ that I can only lift in.

If you've got a Reebok outlet near you, they've got a bunch of shoes just like that there. I wandered through one a few weeks ago. What sucks is that it's marked up because it says "Crossfit" on it =/

    I typically lift in these:
    new-balance-minimus-10v2-running-shoes-minimalist-for-men-in-white-blue-greenp6596j_011500.2.jpg

I've used these in the past:

These are my favorite all-around shoe, though sounds like you're looking for something more purpose-specific:

I saw the women's low tops were on sale for $45, which is pretty good; but, they don't have many color/size combinations in stock.

I wear VFFs, but another option that I sometimes wear are Merrell Vapor Gloves.

well they don't have slaughter houses in the states any more- so it all goes to Canada or Mehico to be consumed or shipped.

I honestly wouldn't eat USA grown horse meat that's just been slaughtered up there.
Nope nope nope nope. The drugs we put into horses here for regular things (worming etc) aren't FDA approved- nothing about horse meat here is regulated for human consumption.

As a horse lover I'm an outliar- I don't oppose it for squimy issues- I just think it's questionable on the health front.

Chucks - I was wearing regular sneakers while weight lifting. I hate it. I feel like I'm sinking into my shoes. I don't feel stable. And furthermore, I'm convinced I had a blood vessel blowout from wearing "squishy" shoes. I had a huge lump and bruise under my knee. When I wear my Chucks for heavy lifting, such as squatting, I don't have blood vessel blowouts. I feel much more stable.
