Ladies.... do you exercise during your period?
Replies

I used to, now that I had my ovary partially removed (cysts) it gives me an unbearable pain.0

Totally. Even if it's just walking, I do it. Being outside in and of itself makes everything better. And if I feel like running after a few minutes, Great! I don't lift, and the resistance training I do doesn't seem hindered by any symptoms.0

QFT. It has never occurred to me to NOT workout, simply because I have my period. Pretty much the only time I don't workout is if I have a chest cold and am coughing up a lung (or if I have head congestion and I'm scheduled for a swim - no way am I putting my face underwater with sinus congestion) - and even then, I'll still do something like yoga.0 -
Always. "Aunt Flo" tends to be an over eater, so working off the extra calories keeps me from getting completely derailed.0

I do. I don't get cramps. Never have.0

Yes. I find that I feel better when I do and at least for me, the bleeding is not as bad.0

I was wondering, do you exercise during your period?
I tend not to as I feel very bloated and heavy with cramps and sometimes just don't want to move at all, especially when my period pains are really bad.
But that means 5 days (nearly a week) of no weight loss.
Thanks
Yes. Always.

I always walk during my period. I don't usually do any strength training, but walking helps with cramps.0

Yes, I do not let that stop me, and I find that the bloating and the period cramps tend to subside during and afterward. I find that even though I wake up feeling like absolute crap if I get a good workout in, sweating like a pig I feel 1000x better the remainder of period.

yes, however I have the occasional really crampy/floody day when I just don't effing feel like it, so I take those days off.0
-
I normally do. But I sometimes will have diarrhea that time of the month so I try not to push myself too hard and couple that with runners' trots.0
-
Yes. Though sometimes something feels "wrong" for me because I have bad ones, and I'll just use it as a rest day. But I still get my 5 days a week of exercising/lifting no matter what.0
-
Not the first 2-3 days. After that yeah.0
-
definitely! I run to get rid of the cramps, and I found it gets it over with quicker too0
-
Usually, yes, i keep exercising. I might take one day off if I am in a lot of pain, but luckily for me that doesn't happen every month.0
-
only maybe the first day or so that my cramps are bad, but it's nothing advil can't handle.
have you thought about contraception? i'm on the generic "seasonique" so i only have my period once every three months and it's awwwwwwwesome. my last period was actually early october.0 -
I do more walking around that time.0
-
I find it helps with cramps, back aches and general lethargy. Also allows me to pound out some agro without injuring anyone who's pissed me off.0
-
If I'm having mild cramps I'll exercise. If I'm having severe cramps exercise makes everything worse - worse pain, more fatigue, more hating everyone. So I take those days off as needed. I also can't really weight train during my heavy flow days because I use a diva cup and tensing up has unfortunate side effects, so I tend to do cardio.
But the endorphins do make things nicer on mild period days! yay endorphins!0 -
If I didn't, I'd never exercise (in my 10th continuous week with this particular one and it's always ridiculously heavy). Just make sure I take my iron to combat the inevitable anaemia that crops up from week 3/4 or so, double or treble up on padding if I'm going to be busy more than about 45 mins, and get on with it.0
-
Yes because I don't cramp but I'm absolutely ravenous! If I don't exercise I feel like deal when it ends.0
-

Is this the thread for appreciating the joys of menopause?
I get migraines that get in the way of my plans though, so there's that.0 -
Yes
and I feel so much better for it than if I didn't

i do now because it makes me feel better. if i didnt and i sat around it would make me bloated and crappy. i never used to because they were heavy and when i did aerobics it would make it heavier but i have learnt to get through it. aerobics for an hour a day is a brilliant stress buster0

IUD= no period. Heaven.0

Always. My period is going to come every month for a many years to come (baring any unforeseen medical issues), so skipping a week of exercise b/c of something that comes monthly is not an option for me. It helps me stay not only fit, but happy, and helps with cramps. FOR ME it's not a valid excuse to skip a workout.0
