At what point did you get your rings re-sized?

My wedding/engagement ring have been loose for awhile now, but since we are now having winter weather where I live, I find that they are really, really loose (cold hands all the time). I'm a little worried about losing them, but I would like to stay at my current weight for awhile to be sure I can maintain it before getting them re-sized. Has anyone done it?

I am not married, but I have an Aggie ring that doesn't fit anymore. I am waiting until I'm at goal weight before getting them resized as I don't want to pay for it more than once. But, a class ring is rather different than a wedding ring.

What if you wore them on a necklace for now until you're done losing? You could also pick up a cheap silver band to mark yourself as "taken" if you're worried about that if you do choose to go the necklace route.

I've been thinking about getting mine done. I actually haven't worn my wedding and engagement rings for over a month. Both are too big and I'm worried about losing them too. Fortunately, I have my grandma's ring as well and I've been wearing that instead. Was always too tight before and fits perfect now.

How about these until you feel confident enough to get them resized?! http://www.amazon.co.uk/Ring-Snuggies-Assorted-Pack-Of/dp/B004U39CC0

Ring snuggies! What a great idea! I see those little things are on sale at Claire's. I gotta get me some of those.

My wedding ring is sitting in a little bowl on the kitchen table waiting for resizing until I achieve my goal, still thirty pounds away.

Ring snuggles are the best.. btw, get your ring resized in the worse heat wave ever after 3 pm.. your hands will be at max swell usually then.

Halfway through my weight loss, I went to Helzberg (where I bought my ring) to get my ring cleaned and asked about a ring adjuster. They put one on right then and there, free of charge.

I got it resized last month, after being at maintenance for a few months and deciding it was finally time.

I am at my GW (I think), I just want to be sure I can maintain this. Those ring snuggies are brilliant, I think I will look into getting some! Thanks!

I had mine resized when they fell off my finger into the dairy case at the grocery store. They are loose again now but trying to hold off because my fingers are bigger in the summer and I don't want them too tight.

What I've done is get a cheap fake ring from Amazon. My real ring is tucked away, safe until I'm done losing weight.

Mine is quite wide, so I can't get it resized :( The jeweller I went to suggested I get balls instead - which are just gold balls attached to the inside of the ring. They take up the slack, but also leave enough 'gap' to accomodate my finger if it swells.

That's the plan anway, I pick it up tomorrow!

There isn't any place near me to get them sized. I've been wearing my rings on my middle finger- or sometimes my index finger (at the end of workouts.) I'm a bit leery of having them fixed... I may wait until summer, when it's humid.

After having our rings go from snug to loose to too snug again over the years, for our 15th anniversary we had our names tattooed in a ring on our fingers. We figured by that point we weren't rushing into any hasty decisions we may later regret. And if we regret anything later it will be having spent all that time together and they will serve as permanent reminders!

My rings got really lose but aren't any more, even though I've lost more weight. At one point a few years ago my wedding ring even fell off. No more. My fingers also get thicker or thinner depending both on the weather, as you say, and how much salt I've eaten.

I had thought to have my rings my resized, but decided not to. After a few years, I'm happy about this decision. And besides, now I am at exactly the same weight (maybe 2 pounds less) than I was when I got married 33 years ago. So they must have fit about the same then as they do now. :)

P.S. When they're really lose I wear my wedding ring on a chain.

I have always had tiny fingers, even at 300 lb I wore a size 5.5 ring. Now I wear a 4. My wedding ring is a 5, but it's silver so not as easily resized and it's a very inexpensive ring...my husband and I are waiting until the artisan starts making it again and she promised to do it in a 4. Right now my ring's pretty much falling off. Ah well.
  • I've actually been wondering the same thing! My ring keeps swinging around my finger and I'm worried one day it's just going to go flying. Part of me thinks that my fingers are smaller from losing weight, but I also think it has a lot to do with cold weather.. I'm thinking I'll wait until the summer to see how my hands do when they're swollen from heat :) The ring snuggies seem awesome though!

Thankfully we purchased the lifetime protection plan from Harry Ritchies and includes sizing. I have had mine done twice. Once from an 11 to a 9, then again from a 9 to a 7 1/2. Basically, if I could shake it off it was time to get it done. I did also use the temporary sizer inside the band for a while as well.

WHOW! I'm just in shock hearing people have to get them resized....my wedding ring is a 5, but hasn't changed how it fits much...guess we all lose it and tone up in different places!

I started noticing my rings were getting loose after about ten pounds. My solution was to buy silver "guard rings" in my correct size -- thin little simple circles like people use for stacking bands. Now, after 44 pounds, my rings swivel wildly but they stay on my fingers.

When I'm finally done and have maintained for a while (no, I don't know when I'll be done or how long "a while" is) I'll have them resized. My wedding ring is from a fancy-schmancy store so I am not about to pay them more than once for a redo!

It would be nice to have lost the weight from my @ss rather than my fingers, but like you said, we all tone up in different places. Is there any way I could just swap my size-four fingers for a size-four behind?

I have not gotten my rings re-sized and likely won't just because of the design and the way they sit and no matter the weight loss my fingers become little sausages in the summer. I use those little snuggie things.

I got married when I was at my previous lowest adult weight (We have been married for 39 years). I was unable to wear my rings for years, until I had been on MFP and had lost over 100 pounds. I have been at maintenance for over a year now, and have been wearing my rings again for 2 years. It is one of my happiest NSV's, from losing weight.

I recently checked with a jewelers and my ring can't be re-sized any further on account of the way it was made (it's a custom job with a design going all the way around). I ordered the ring at size 8, had it re-sized to 7.5 in time for the wedding (lost 25 pounds by then), and I no longer wear it on my ring finger now that I'm down to 6.5 per the jeweler, six years later.

It frustrates my wife a little that I wear my wedding ring on my left index finger now, as my right ring finger is also too small. Plus side - now that I've been maintaining for a year, I'm getting a new ring while still wearing the old. Win-win!

********Please get them resized. Mine fell off throwing cardboard out at work. I never found them. I basically lost a small car in the pile of cardboard. And that ring could have paid for my divorce and disney trip with my daughter. Just saying...get them resized.

My rings were a size 7.5 when I got married, actually a 1/2 size too big because the wedding band is so wide. By the time we were married a year they were too small and in the jewlery box. 15 years later I started college for the first time and the husabnd had them sized up so I went to school with a wedding ring. :) Now that I'm losing (164 down at this point) and my fingers are back to 7 on the left and 7.5 on the right the rings are back in the jewlery box. Size 10 rings no matter how wide will fall off. I'm not having them sized until I am done losing and have maintained for a while. In the meantime I wear some form of "wedding" like ring because I know it makes the husband happy.
