No reason to give it up. Drink it in moderation.
What is "fat coke"?0 -
Normal coke the red can lol, I don't seem to be able to do moderation unfortunately0

You are "detoxing" from it....your body has become dependent on it. You don't have to give it up to lose weight. But it really isn't good for your body....(says a girl who never liked soda).0

It's just sugar water - after a couple of days of drinking water your body will forget you needed it. GOOD LUCK FRIEND.0

What's wrong with Diet Coke?0

healthy eating should limit your processed sugar intake to 25g per day. A single coke has over 40g. Diet pop is almost as bad because it tricks your brain into thinking it is getting sugar. When it realizes it is not getting any then it will crave it and you will probably wind up eating more sugar later. That's why a lot of overweight people who drink diet drinks with artificial sweeteners do not lose weight.0

Lost 121 pounds drinking diet coke/pepsi.0

Stopping cold turkey means your body is going into caffeine withdrawal. Either push through it or start out and lessen the intake over the course of a week. Sometimes the body doesn't like to be shocked like that, but if you've already started the withdrawal, push through it. I did!0

I hope I turn into a water addict

Try drinking tea so you can get some caffeine. Unfortunately the fake sugar chemicals are quite habit forming and cause awful withdrawal symptoms when you stop. Good luck.0

Have a bottle of water with you at all times. When you feel like you need a coke, have a sip of water. After a few days, you won't miss coke at all. I gave up soda several years ago and never went back. The first few days were tough (major sugar withdrawals) but beyond that, it's been easy to keep away from the sugary drinks. Keep at it and good luck.0

This. If you decided not to drink any you will feel fine again in a day or two. If it gets annoying taking excedrin will help if it's a caffeine withdrawal headache. (because excedrin contains caffeine)0 -
Does Coke have caffeine?
If so, it is probably caffeine withdrawal. Weaning yourself off it, or working your way through the next couple of days of headaches will see you through.
You don't have to give it up, drink it in moderation so it fits in your calorie goals.

I don't think there's anything wrong with Diet coke in moderation. I drink it most days and I'm losing. Also I understand a good tip for long distance running is to drink flat diet coke before heading out.. Not tried it yet but the advice was from a very ultra runner. Also I've not been convinced by any supposed 'scientific ' evidence.... But each to their own.... Now... Full fat coke is an issue for me.. So high in sugar and the calorie intake is just wasted on me.. I'd rather have a pint of diet coke and a sandwich :-) (apologies this doesn't really answer your post, but I don't think you need to quit anything in order to lose weight)
Good luck with it0 -
I thought we were talking about cocaine....0

Sounds like caffeine withdrawal. It can last two weeks. It's worth it, though....(at least it was for me...)

Sugar is not addictive and artificial sugar doesn't "trick your brain". If you can work regular coke into your cals for the day, do it. If not, and you enjoy diet coke, drink that instead.
You'd have to pry the diet coke from my cold, dead hands before I would give it up. I lost 30 lbs drinking it, it didn't make me crave sweets or sabotage me in other ways...

Cold-turkey means withdrawal headaches. They'll go away after a few days.
Tapering removes the headache issue, but it is a lot harder to quit the stuff when it's sitting in the fridge!
Drink lots of water, get some fresh air if you can and try some Advil.
Good luck! If you succeed, you'll be so glad you did!!0 -
I think some things just aren't right without a Coke. I'm having popcorn and watching Bound in a few hours. What should I have with that? Grape juice? Water? Green tea? Nope! Coke it is and I'm still losing weight.0

LOL 25 grams a day of sugar? Says who ...
so are you saying if I eat 26 grams of sugar I will gain weight..?

I quit drinking pop about a year ago. After a few months, I decided to have one and it tasted nasty. Way to sugary! I will stick with my coffee/water now!0

I drink about 62oz of ice tea every day with saccharin in it for sweetener. All the cancer claims about saccharin have been debunked and proven false years ago. There have been no known ill effects of it for the majority of people in the world including me and I've been using it for about 50 years now. So drink your diet coke if you want it - it's the withdrawal from the caffeine in the coke that is causing your head to bang - not the sugar or sweeteners.

I second the advice about tea/coffee. From personal experience, the caffeine is what your body is craving, not the sugar rush. Coffee and tea are low-calorie alternatives, but not if you're also looking to dump the caffeine dependency.0

Overweight people who don't lose weight are simply eating too much. It has nothing to do with their brain being "tricked".0 -
I see a "sugar is the devil" post coming in the near future. LOL0

Uh...NO on the tricking your brain! I drink tea with artificial sweetener and have lost 60lbs and keeping it off! I only crave sugar when I eat sugar all the time.0
