I would say look up independent reviews of it, don't watch a commercial for it and think about taking it.

Anything marketed for weight loss doesn't work. Save your money!

You should do a search for phentermine threads. There are a bunch. I've been on it. Lost weight too. Side effects are not worth it.

I've had good luck with it in the past when I used it, but it's not a long term solution and really not something you should come to depend on. But yeah, I've had a doctor prescribe it to me and monitor my activity on it and been satisfied with it's progress
  • I'm currently using phentermine. The weight comes off pretty quickly for me on it. It feels a lot like speed (if you ever tried cocaine or anything similar). I am not sleeping as well as I would like, but I was morbidly obese and I will trade a little sleep for a few more years with my family. I am 20lbs off my goal and then the real test begins...can I maintain without it? Will it be hard to get off it? Ask me again next month!

Why are there so many phentermine threads from brand new or low post accounts lately? I'm seriously seeing 1-2 a day.

Everyone I know who's tried it is still overweight. Lost a little, gained back more. And while they were on it, they were complet psychos.

People think its a quick fix. It's not a solution. You have to learn to eat better and you can't be on this drug long term. The dependency is false hope in the end. Lose weight by changing your lifestyle not taking short cut and hoping for a miracle.

I was absolutely manic. I even developed a skin picking disorder. But at the time, it didn't matter, because I was getting skinny. =/ Well, guess what? I'm right back where I was before I started. And I'm surprising myself. This is the first time I have EVER lost weight on my own. An it feels pretty darn good.

Why not just eat at a deficit?

I totally agree. It does feel like speed and I was getting like 5 hours of sleep. So I stopped taking it daily and switches to about 3 days a week. It defintely suppresses the appetite, but when you stop taking it, you gain the weight back because all it did was suppress. It does nothing for u long term. Your not learning portion control or how to eat good vs bad foods.
  • I was on the phen-phen regimine. Didn't lose weight and ended up having a heart valve replacement.... don't do it. I am aware they dropped the one pill part of it but still

I was wondering the same thing myself. People want quick-fixes and aren't willing to put in the effort!

I tried it for fatigue. It was awful. Do not recommend. I was compulsive and couldn't sit down or rest at all even when I was so exhausted I wanted to cry. I had to force myself to eat anything, which I know you'll probably think sounds good but trust me it's not. I couldn't be touched because my skin was crawling and everything hurt when it brushed against me, even clothes. I don't remember if I lost any weight on it, I just remember being miserable.

OP, go read some real research, not a commercial.
And I'd be leery of anyone selling drugs using a gmail account!
Also, use the search feature to find the myriad of other threads asking about phentermine.
Plus, with only 50 lb to lose you might not be at a high enough BMI to use it.
It's intended for people who are obese (based on BMI), or are overweight (based on BMI) with other health problems.
Not worth it. Nobody needs pills; just hard work and patience.
If someone were in pain, would you tell them they don't need pills (morphine, tylenol) and they should just work hard & be patient to overcome being in pain?
    I doubt it.
Hunger is a kind of pain.

Phentermine controls hunger, allowing a person to learn to eat normally, eat reasonable portions, etc.
It does not stop fat accumulation, it does not give you more energy (unless you're very susceptible to stimulants), in fact other than suppressing hunger it doesn't do anything that commercial claims it does.
It's not magic, it won't lose the weight for you.
It allows you to learn to eat normally, reset your hunger control, while not being ravenous.

For me, it reset my hunger mechanism to a normal level. Even when I'm not using it I eat normally.
The only side effect I had was a very _slight_ elevation in blood pressure, which appeared to offset the drop I was getting from exercise.
No hallucenations, no psychosis, able to eat, able to sleep, not manic, not high, not bouncing, no headache.
But thanks to not being constantly ravenous, I learned to eat normal portions... which leads to great success losing weight.

BTW, the phen-fen combo was canned because it caused heart problems.
Phentermine was NOT the problematic part of that. It is safe.

I did a blog post about prescription appetite suppressants / weight loss drugs, which has links to more info on them.

My Dr prescribed it to me last year. I tried it for a week, and decided the side effects were not worth it. I felt like my head was going to pop off, I felt so horrible that I couldn't do my workouts, which I felt was more important. A year later I am still over weight, but It took me more than a few months to gain all this weight, so I am trying to be patient :) Good Luck in what ever you decide!

A doctor prescribed it to me and I really wasn't that interested but I tried it anyway. My fiance always knew when I took one because I became VERY bitchy, didn't sleep, didn't eat, hated everything and everyone, and normally i'm very happy and bubbly. I hated the way I felt. I took it for like 3 days and then I only used it when I needed energy.. Then I finally threw it away because I hated becoming such a mega *kitten*.

I used Phentermine successfully for a few months. The main benefit for me was that by stopping the hunger, Phentermine gave me time to learn to eat better and exercise. I did NOT regain the weight, and I am still down 60 pounds which I lost using the drug. However, the side effects can be powerful.

I'm not sure why everyone is having psychological issues while taking it. Maybe that was an underlining issue that they didn't know about. But i had success taking it and so did mom. I was happyand peppy. I liked it. She lost 80 lbs and i 30. Phentermine is simply an appetite suppressant and as someone said, it won't do the work for you it's only an aid to keep you from going over. My dr gave me a diet and prescribed the Phentermine to help me stay on track. There r side effects, dry mouth which will make you want to drink water like crazy (Which in my opinion is good lol), it slightly speeds up your heart rate which makes you burn tons of cals all day. And that's probably why Some of these ppl say they feel like they're on speed lol. Also by it speeding up your heart rate it'll be hard for you sleep. So they recommend you take the pill before 9am. That'll give it plenty of time to wear off before bed. If you feel like you're going to need an early nap or something, don't take it because you can't fall asleep during the day. For me it normally wears off in 12hrs. So if you go to bed at 10p don't take the pill 3pm. Good luck

I came to this site while coming off of it after my blood work came back extremely abnormal for cholesterol and triglycerides in September. She gave me 6 months to get my numbers down or go on meds and of course all results vary just like with anything else. I came for support on how to maintain, not to be chastised or be accused of looking for a magic pill. Some of these responses here may come from high count posters but it doesn't make you an authority. Snubbing your nose in the air helps no one.

The comments are extremely rude and people are genuinely interested in what others experience in the real world. I'm sure their doctor wasn't as honest and being able to read someone's experience here is better than any "internet reviews".

For myself it worked great for the first 2 months and I still exercised and had regular blood pressure checks and liver tests. The last month I noticed I was more on edge with anxiety so I chose not to continue it even though she offered it another month.

It's a recognized side effect. They list it as "rare" but "severe mental changes" and even hallucinations are there.

It does not mean that the person already had the issue. I've never had any trouble like that before or since. The doctor told me that it just does that to some people.

A friend's mom took Phen-Phen when we were 12. She lost some weight then gained it back plus a lot more. She was the fattest person I'd ever met til I was about 20. Now, she's been on a diet of 800 calories per day for the last six years and is still morbidly obese. It had seriously detrimental effects on her health. Don't do it.

I haven't tried that kind. I used a suppressant called Adicor and loved it, now I can't seem to get it anymore. It was and herb/caffeine blend. I think the caffeine suppressed my appetite just enough to still eat but discouraged binging. I got great energy but was still able to sleep at night. I think as long as you use them as a supplement as directed, barring any allergic reactions you should be fine. I always worry about long term drug effects. Most drugs are tested for other conditions, then if patients report a common side effect they market it for other uses the drug was not intentionally developed for.

I took it for 3 months and lost 50 pounds. Went off of it and I have lost 110 pounds since. It is not a quick fix, the key is to "relearn" how to eat when you are taking it.

The thing is, its an appetite suppressant. And when you stop taking the medication, your appetite comes raging back.

Honestly, if you go about things the right way, (and i'm not saying there is only one right way), losing weight is not hard and its not beyond you.

Honestly you can do it. But if you are doing it the wrong way you will probably find it hard and give up too soon.

Even if phentermine wasn't the "bad" half of phen-phen, i am still leery of any product meth addicts use to hold them over in between binges. This isn't info i got from a study, it's something i have seen first hand.

I just take 1/2 and it works fine- with hardly any side effects, I'm losing about 2 lbs a week and sleep really well.
