Honestly, from my experience it was only taking the time to do it regularly that I found myself getting excited about it and finding ways to fit it in easier. Your brain will get hooked on the release of endorphines post-workout, you will crave it more. Then you will naturally be more excited about doing it and probably find creative ways to fit it in.

Work out before or after work even if it's only 30 minutes. I work 8 to 5 five days a week and I work out after work 2 to 3 times a week and also something light like a bike ride for 30 minutes on one of my days off normally on Sunday. I either do a class like Zumba or do a home workout as it's usually dark by 6pm now.

Find something you are passionate about. And find people who share that passion. For me its running, tennis, kayaking, and cycling. I love those things. I mean really love them. And I have a good group of friends that are just as fanatical as I am.

Like already mentioned, find something you love to do. Once you do that, it won't seem like such a chore. I have tried on more than one occasion to lose the weight, and ended up failing miserably because I hated everything that I was doing to try to reach that goal. I have no doubt that part of why I have been successful this time around is because I finally found some activities I enjoy doing!

You've gotta be willing to help yourself and make the time. If it's important enough, you'll do it. No one here or anywhere else can provide you the motivation if you just aren't willing to do it.

When you make goals like swim x amount of distance/ time intensity. I want to lift a certain amount by a certain date on calender.

Key word is GOALS. You find a activity you love then set goals for said activity.

Well, what do you enjoy doing when you get home? The AHA goals for exercise are only 75 minutes of vigorous activity or 150 minutes of moderate activity per week. I coach youth basketball and soccer. Two practices already add up to 150 minutes! Other easy ways include walking to lunch on workdays or playing video games such as Wii Fit, Just Dance, etc.

I agree with everyone else. Find an activity you enjoy and you'll look forward to it.

    1. Find something that you like to do. Do you like the outdoors? Start walking in your neighborhood after work before dinner. Do you like dance? Find a zumba class in your area. Do you like games? Get a WiiFit. Do you like meeting new people? Join a league sport.
    2. Find a way to incorporate exercise into things you already do. Park as far away from the store as you can to get a little extra walk. Do bodyweight squats while dinner cooks. Do yoga before bed to wind down. Go on walks during lunch.

What kind of work do you do? Is it possible to be more active at work and during your day? What does your lunch hour and/or breaks consist of? I'm all for incorporating activity into your already existing schedule rather than adding to it seeing as how you have very little time off already.

However, if you do have time to schedule in a workout the key is to NOT ask yourself if you feel like doing it. You just DO IT just like you go to work when you don't feel like it. If you can give more details then we can give more help!

Yup. If I only worked out when I felt like it, I'd still weigh 300 lbs. I don't really feel like not eating cake for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, either, come to think of it.

Sorry, that's just the truth. But, I can tell you that it's worth it. And when I'm doing it, I do enjoy working out (mostly). But the actual going is tough.

Find something that makes you want to do it. On the days when I didn't want to work out I did the 10 minute rule. I said I would do XYZ for 10 minutes and most all of the time I was finishing an hour workout. Perhaps find a class you like...Zumba, Kick Boxing (super fun for days when people annoyed me), Yoga...you get the idea.

It seems like it's assumed in most of the responses, but with the wording of your question, want to put it out there: you shouldn't plan to just workout on your day off. You need to make it part of your routine (something I struggle with too). If you do half an hour of exercise/activity after work every day, you could make your day off your rest day, but don't take an approach that you don't have time to work out if you work so you're just going to work out on your day off. Just my perspective. I have a hard time getting motivated myself, but I think you have a lot of good advice from other posters about that too.

I don't think anyone here can "help" you. YOU HAVE TO WANT IT. I absolutely hate working out, and I have a lot of excuses not to do it. But I do it anyway because I WANT TO CHANGE. When you really want to do this, you will find a way to make it happen

Maybe workout with a buddy or do 10-20 minute youtube workouts. Use Pinterest to see motivation and fitness pins, that usually helps me. And think about the long term benefits. Anticipation is far greater than the actual activity, go into it feeling neutral and then feel good that you are getting your workout done.

If youtube seems boring then do some dance. Dance around to your favorite songs, as long as you keep moving. Its okay to workout for a little and take breaks.

    This. This. This.

If you don't like it, you won't do it. I'd also ad.. Find something convenient. I started walking because the track is on way home when I drop my daughter off at school every morning. I'm not going out of my way to do it, so I'm more likely to do it.

I would just work out during your work week (30 minutes or so each day) and leave your one day off as a rest day unless it's an activity you want to do.

You have over 5 hours everyday that you are not working or sleeping. Find something you like to do and do it. Do something active on your day off too. Thats a whole day to relax and sleep in or catch up on other things. Anyone could fit in 30 minutes of something.

Its not as hard as you are making it out to be.

Like lots of things, you have to do it whether you like it or not. And after you do it for a while, you'll start to like it because you'll like the results.

30 minutes really isn't that long. And when it's over, you'll feel great!

Here's an approach that always works for me: make a kick *kitten* high intensity playlist that you only get to listen to when working out. Sounds silly, but helps when you don't want to go. I also employ the 10 minute rule. I commit to ten minutes and if I'm not feeling it, I can leave. But: with a great playlist and already ten minutes in I always decide to stay. And feel so much better for it.
I should also add I too work crazy hours: two jobs and have a kiddo to parent. On days I can't get to the gym we put on Just Dance and dance our butts off! Fun for the whole family :D hope this helps! Good luck!!

    I work 10 hours a day 6 days weeks

And I work part time while carrying a full class load, maintain a straight A GPA (mostly), and still work out. I'm always up early, and I get home late and do homework. My day off is spent doing homework and I go to the gym.

Here is how I make it work: the first thing I do when I get my schedule is figure out my workout schedule. 3 days of lifting needs to squeeze in there somewhere. I do food prep to save time and so that I won't make choices that don't fit into my macros. I force myself to ride my bike to and from class (I drive part way and park my car), totaling 40 minutes a day, 5 days a week. Yeah, it's dark when I leave. But, I've carefully mapped out where I park so that my ride is on a mixed use path and not on city streets in the dark. All of this has taken planning and creativity. I wish I could fit more running in, but hell, it's not like I'm sedentary at this point. So, balance it is.

EVERYONE is busy. But, if exercise is something that you want in your life, then you have to figure out the difference between a reason and an excuse. You don't HAVE to work out, but there will be consequences down the road for that choice. It is a choice, though, and you have to decide for you whether it's worth it to make it happen and to force yourself to do it.
  • Thanks guys for everyones help . A student of mine suggested a fitbit . I going to make this happen. Thank
