Felt Sick After Trying Raspberry Ketones

Last week there was this GNC guy standing outside his store, giving out free samples of raspberry ketones (Dr Oz recommended). I took one and popped it in my mouth right then and there. It was really yummy! I mean it looked like a piece of candy:-) Within a hour I started to feel dizzy, shaky and nauseous. I continued to feel like that for 24 hours. I guess, I'm very sensitive to dietary aids or medication, even ones that look like candy... LOL !!!! Has anyone else tried them and did you have the same experience?

Psychosomatic I would venture to guess. It pretty much does nothing and I suspect that the efficacy if any would be in downing a whole bottle...even then.5

im slightly confused about these....surely something that produces keytones is only helpful if you are in ketosis
Are you doing low carb/high fat/med protein? this is the only way i see these working.....1 -
I did some research and this is what I found out from WEBMD,
"There isn’t enough information available to know if raspberry ketone is safe to take as a supplement. Raspberry ketone has never been scientifically studied in humans to determine if it causes side effects. However, there are some concerns about the safety of raspberry ketone because it is chemically related to a stimulant called synephrine. Therefore, it is possible that raspberry ketone might cause feelings of jitteriness, increase blood pressure, or rapid heart beat. In one report, someone who took raspberry ketone described feelings of being shaky and a pounding heart beat (palpitations).
Special Precautions & Warnings:
Pregnancy and breast-feeding: Not enough is known about the use of raspberry ketone during pregnancy and breast-feeding. Stay on the safe side and avoid use."5 -
Don't take them.4

If Dr. Oz recommended breathing I may have to reconsider my whole philosophy on the subject.

Tried it for a month, no results. Just seemed to give me indigestion.0

hahaha Yup, same here! Seems like he recommends pretty much anything to make that wallet of his grow!5 -
Did the person not say you're only supposed to take them WITH food? Especially if it's a high dosage! Have been on them for over a month now, only take 1 or 2 a day and its helped a lot! But if you're suffering some serious side effects - I'd speak to your doctor before taking any more. Doesn't matter what is on the internet. Its the internet... it cannot be trusted 100% of the time. Plus it is not information that is 100% relevant to your own medical history.
If you must try them again, do not have them on an empty stomach. Either have one JUST before you eat, or wash it down with water or juice at the end of a meal. Heck, maybe even try the liquid form and add it to the drink you have with your meal. But not without food.
I'd still consult your GP before going any further with it though, just to be safe about it.
Hope you're feeling better now! xxxx7 -
I too tried them after Dr. Oz recommended them with the exact same results. I tried for 2 weeks taking them as instructed and it felt like my head was disconnected from my body so I stopped. It did nothing for my weight loss. I also tried the 3 day cleanse Dr. Oz recommended and lasted 1 day. Kale in a smoothie....yuck! It's funny because I don't watch Dr. Oz on a regular basis but being overweight all my life I am pretty much willing to try anything! lol (I don't think I'm alone in this). I joined MFP last September and stopped all the other crap. Eat less...move more and it's working!4

So guess what the exact same think happened to me, dizzy , nauseous, tingly, palpitations and entire face and arms went numb. I only found this forum by googling why I'd feel like that after taking them when everyone else says "nothing happens" I know I'm really sensitive to chemicals in my good as artificial sweetener makes me feel unwell too. So I'm going to hazard a non medical guess that some of us are just more sensitive to "manufactured" chemicals than others. On the same token, multivitamin tablets make me throw up. I have absolutely no medical problems generally either. So I'm clueless on this one.1

I get queasy if I exercise shortly after taking them and burp up raspberry for hours after...0

I haven't taken since that day. I hated that feeling.2

Ketones make me feel nauseous too. I've tried a few of the drinks and they always make me feel a little nauseous.
So, I just quit drinking them. I assure you that it's not psychosomatic. My sister doesn't feel anything when she drinks them though.0 -
Dr. Mercola is a better resource for health. Although I have questioned a couple of articles on his website too. Best thing is to do research for and against something and formulate your own opinion.21

Diet aids have only one use - making the manufacturer/endorsers money from preying on people who are vulnerable and desperate to lose weight.6 -
This is an awesome woo bingo thread. Dr. OZ, Raspberry ketones, GNC samples, Mercola, all we need is something on abdomen wrapping and ACV and we'll have a winner!!

^^Pretty much correct.
There is no pill to aid weight loss. You are wasting your money and making the manufacturers richer.
Eating less calories than you burn = weight loss.
Anyway it is packaged and sold to you, the only way to lose weight is by eating less calories than you are burning, barring any medical conditions.
PS is there any medication, prescription or OTC, that is 100% safe. Why take the unnecessary risk?0 -

Awesome list.
One thing some of us (Canadians) need to watch out for. I once sent a nasty email about the inclusion of Deepak Chopra as a speaker at a business course. Yeah, not the same Deepak Chopra. They were bringing in the guy who ran the Canadian arm of (I think) UPS who later (and possibly still) runs Canada Post. My bad.3 -

Mercola is a quack.2 -
Closing the circle on the OP, There is also caffeine in the chews, which could cause some of the described symptoms if you're not acclimated or if you're already heavily dosing.1

But last visited June 2017 so you've got to give them credit for having SOME staying power, after all. Still not likely to see this, and hopefully not still drinking raspberry ketones.1 -
What do the raspberry ketones do for you? Are you on a ketogenic diet?Did the person not say you're only supposed to take them WITH food? Especially if it's a high dosage! I just kept tasting raspberry all day, which isn't a bad side affect.... at first. Eventually you can actually get really sick of raspberry candy taste.0
