The bad carbs are the ones that put you over your calorie goal for the day. That also describes the bad proteins and fats.

    Just kidding.

There's no such thing as "bad" carbs. Starchy carbs like rice, pasta, bread and potatoes have been demonized erroneously through equally "bad" science.

There are simple carbs and complex carbs, no bad carbs. Everything in moderation and balance. Don't classify food as bad or good.

There are no bad carbs, unless you're talking about those awful biscuits that could have doubled as hockey pucks my grandmother made that one Easter. Oh! And waxy chocolate. It's just not worth the calories.

Starchy carbs are the "bad" ones because people eat 657 servings in one sitting, and smother them in fat heavy sauces, creating a surplus of calories and weight gain. They aren't bad at all if they fit into your calorie goals and macros.

And overcooked pasta and undercooked french fries and cakes with "surprise" ingredients like mayonnaise

    Avoid those, OP.

No bad carbs, but it's easy to do bad things with them if you're not careful (like making a cauliflower pizza crust :astonished: )

    The serious answer:
Instead of bad and good, look at carbs (and food in general) as belonging to one of two groups: the try-to-have-more group, and the nice-to-have group. The first group are the carbs that are more nutritionally dense, like vegetables, which would help you get optimum nutrients in a well-rounded diet. The second group are the carbs that you like but are not as nutritionally dense as the first, like the usual food items people tend to label "bad". Now these are nice to have when the desire strikes, but if they make up the majority of your calories, your diet may end up less balanced.

An honorary mention group: the not-worth-the-calories group. These include carbs that you are not crazy about, or things that you can take or leave. Those are best avoided because why would you want to spend your precious calories on things that you don't like?

You're making it wrong, if yours is bad.

It's your overall diet that's important. Generally speaking, for weight loss, moderation of high calorie nutrient poor carbs can be a good thing, but in reality, people have lost weight and improved health markers that weight loss influences by eating only twinkies.

It's very much an individual thing, and finding what works for you. For me, there are no bad foods, there are only bad quantities.

Twinkies are bad carbs, based on the recommendations of 99 out of 100 diets. And guess which is the one lone diet that tells you that when it comes to carbs, they are all the same, whether they are from Twinkies or veggies?
Lol, if one is "dieting" then they're still doing it wrong.

There is no such thing as bad carbs unless you have a medical condition such as diabetes, insulin resistance, or hypoglycemia.

Bad carbs are ones that expand when you put water on them. Simple enough.

Twinkies are bad carbs because they're gross, not because of any other reason. There are far superior snack cake choices. (As part of an otherwise well-balanced diet, naturally.)

Your claims about MFP and what it tells people to eat are once again, way off the mark.

Your obsession with twinkies is showing again.

I limit mine to the foods that 45-50% of the total carbs are from fiber for health/weight reasons. The rest I pass on eating.
