I'm a big fan of Tim Ferriss and the 4-Hour Body book. Has anyone tried the slow carb diet he recommended? I was thinking about trying it out next week so I want to find out what I'm in for haha

yeah, I tried it and it lasted a big 8 hours for me. I just cannot eat meat, beans, and veggies every day, I've just got so many emotional things going on in my life to eat this way. What works for me, and I should remember this, instead of getting hooked on all of the deprivation plans, is that I can still eat what I want as long as I stay in my calorie limit. I mean, I don't just eat 100% junk but I do eat the things that I'm craving, and try to get in some healthy food too. I hope this helps, and I've been on some many diets and this one is the only one that I've really lost weight on and was doable. Besides, I would set myself up for an all out junk food binge until I puked if I couldn't have some good stuff everyday.

Most people follow a diet for quick results. Any read of the forums will tell you, there isn't a quick fix  I don't recommend or follow any "diet" ..... Eat at a deficit, exercise, and hit your macro-nutrient ratios, and you'll be fine.

Yes. I really liked it. There a few threads on it if you do a search.

Esp like the cheat day idea as you can last out all week if you know you can eat what you like at the end of it.

I just finished this diet. I tried it to support my boyfriend who has done it before with great results. The key is to remember that it is a "diet". I would not necessarily agree it is 100% adaptable into a lifestyle. (Paleo would be a close comparison that is more realistic to adopt into a lifestyle). When you start to eliminate food groups, it is hard to not classify it as a diet, IMO.

I did this diet for 4 weeks. I lost a total of 5.6 lbs (1.4lbs/week). I thought the results were impressive as I had plateaued previous to starting and had been unable to drop for a while. Keep in mind, you are supposed to also include exercise (which I did NOT).

My boyfriend has lost approximately 8lbs.

I would say that I was always full! The hardest thing was zero sugar, zero sweets. I would have bad days where a coworker was offering me raspberries...(RASPBERRIES) and I had to say "no thanks". THANKFULLY, you DO have a cheat day...but let me tell you, it was always underwhelming. Your body gets used to no sugar, after a breakfast of one piece of french toast smothered in syrup, my stomach was uneasy. On my cheat day I found myself skipping lunch because I felt so full from my breakfast.

As a female, I found I was a lot more moody. I don't like "diets", I don't like being told what I cannot eat. I am much better suited to eating healthy, adopting a lifestyle of moderation and variety.

The cool side to a restrictive/limiting diet is that you must get creative with your cooking. There are some pretty awesome recipes that I tried and will continue to use going forward.

What are you doing now that you're "finished"?

Slow carb diet? Is that where you can eat carbs that run slower than you? Sure! Since carbs can't run, that sounds awesome!!!!

On a more serious note: weight loss is determined by calories in vs out. There is no reason to limit any food group unless you have a DIAGNOSED (emphasis on the diagnosed part, not some "oh I may have...") medical condition.

Except that doesn't build good habits.

Hey Paleopin - I'm just starting the 4H body plan today. If you're looking for a buddy on this...let me know - I'm looking for support as well. I feel very positive about what I've read and seen so far...let me know how it goes!

I have been doing it for about a month now. Along with my bf and his brother. I have lost about 8 lbs (after not being so strict for one week and gaining some back). But it is actually pretty easy for me to follow and has really changed how I view food. Its just fuel for my body...and then I get a cheat day at the end to eat anything I've been craving. I'd love to discuss or help in anyway I can. But to me its totally worth it and I feel great.
