Does anyone think its reasonable to lose 100 lbs in 6 months? For a 230 lb woman? Can it be done?

No, I do not think it is reasonable considering your starting point. Unless you are very short, and even then I wouldn't count on it.0

Not even a little.0

Nope. I have 100 total to lose and am down nearly 60 of that in thirteen months.0

It would be hard to lose even half that in your time frame. Weight loss should not be rushed!0

What about 60? Summers going to suck0

You can't compare to someone else. Their height and starting weight as well as activity level play a huge role.0 -

1600-1800 following TDEE
The traditional guideline is to set your goal to 2 pounds per week (the maximum safe rate of loss) if you're 75+ pounds overweight, and to drop that as you get lower. In order to lose 100 pounds in six months, your deficit would have to be 4 pounds a week, which is detrimental to your health and body.

But it will be better than last summer, right?

Yeah. That would be hard on your body. I just remeber losing 15 lbs a month years ago but I feel that my metabolism has slowed down like crazy.0

I hope so ! Lol0 -
You might lose 15 lbs. your first month but it would slow down after that. I think I lost 7 lbs. the first 2 weeks last year. After that it slowed and my total loss for the year was 52.0

Do your best for this summer, let it be your goal. Once this summer passes make next summer your goal! It can be a long journey but every summer will be better than the last if you keep at it (and also winter, don't forget about jeans )

Only going to suck if you let it.
Aim for next summer. But start now. Instead of leaving it till the last minute.

How many summers have you gone through being overweight? What's one more in the grand scheme of things? ?0

Not in a healthy way.
Something like 30 pounds would be a more reasonable goal for that time frame.
Do it right and you will probably be able to maintain your loss. Rush and do extreme things and you will probably be miserable and gain weight back.0 -

When you start losing you will regret that you didn't take pictures.
I know i do.
I have an older one now from 2012 and there i was even slightly lighter than when i started.

Fair enough. You're only 23. What way above say. Find the sustainable...for life. Not shakes, pills or trickery. Some sort of mode that gives you a rock solid foundation forever. One summer...you're on your way. The next summer you've hit goal. Even better than that...it's going to stick through the stuff life throws at you.

Take a picture. It'll come in handy when the scales are a PIA. And measure.0 -

I show people my picture and they ask if its my sister. Sorta embarassing bc it doesnt look like me. And ill take a picture to look back on. Just depressing!! One day at a time.0 -
thank you
And your still young
Just follow MFP Fill in all the settings
I would chose losing 1 to 1.5 pound a week.
Start logging ALL your food.
Weigh every solid food and measure every liquid
When you start now by the time summer comes you lost quite some weight.
Determination is your biggest friend.0 -

I'm one of the biggest yo-yo dieters out there. What made this time different? Losing the "It must happen NOW!" attitude. For me, losing fast meant having a 'I'm on a diet' mentality (which meant there was an equal "Now I'm not on a diet" mentality!), not learning good sustainable habits and deprivation which led to going too hard the other way. Oh, and a "well I failed I may as well write it all off" mindset.
Forget about losing XX in so many months. Just commit to getting it off, however long it takes, in a sustainable manner and learn good habits along the way. Fact is, we have to make a new normal for ourselves, because our old normal made us fat! And that means life long changes0 -

10lbs a month won't be sustainable over six months. You will have a huge drop to begin with due to sudden changes and water weight being lost, but it will stabilize and start to drop at a more reasonable rate.
You didn't put on 60-100lbs in six months, so don't try to rush taking it off. You can get away with a 2lb/week goal for now; once you hit under 75lbs to lose, drop it down to 1.5lb/week. Take it slow and steady, and approach this summer with a positive attitude, at whatever weight you end up by that time.
Good luck!
