"A federal advisory committee this week urged that the government’s next generation of dietary guidelines for the first time take into account environmental factors, specifically recommending more fruits and vegetables and less meats.
“Consistent evidence indicates that, in general, a dietary pattern that is higher in plant-based foods, such as vegetables, fruits, whole grains, legumes, nuts, and seeds, and lower in animal-based foods is more health promoting and is associated with lesser environmental impact (GHG emissions and energy, land, and water use) than is the current average U.S. diet,” the U.S. 2015 Dietary Guidelines Advisory Committee recommended in a wide-ranging report."

The world is beyond saving and the human race in particular is doomed. I'm actually a little surprised we're still here. So long as I'm here, I will have steak.0

hmmm......guess we don't need those pesky canine teeth then......0

I like both. I think I'll eat both. Except for tomatoes, I hate them.0

Alternatively, we could just eat a balanced diet and breed less.

Ditto.
Does hunting for (most of) my food count as eating clean?
Just curious.0 -
How about...no.0

It would depend on whose definition you are using, but usually yes.0 -
Thanks @holldubs850

These are the same people that told us that eggs were going to kill us for the last 3 or 4 decades, right?0

I couldn't live without meat. Can only eat so many beans.0

Amen! I am vegetarian, almost vegan. And oddly enough, I eat more protein than I did when I was a meat-eater...but my doctor says my heart is healthier.0

I am curious how does it impact the environment less?
Also curious as to who was funding the committee as well.
Either a plant dies or an animal dies - either way I'm eating and either way land is needed.0 -

Didn't think someone would actually take me seriously, but thanks.0 -
Considering the other horrific damage human kind is inflicting on the world, I doubt that we will be around long enough to see any environmental improvement from eatinbg less meat. Bring on the steak, baby.0

But vegans fart more, and that totally causes global warming.0

I think the global warming cause is more methane from cow farts (and there a LOT more cows now than there used to be).
Argument fail...

Wow, I even put a silly face to emphasize that it was a joke, for the benefit of people who don't understand humor.0

Think about all of the different cultures that use meat as a staple food. You can even consider cultures and subcultures that are mostly plant based, but also consume meat at times. Meat resources are useful. Nutrition aside, certain meats are part of various cultures. I'd honestly hate to see traditions fail because eating less meat="better environment". Considering all of the other things currently harming the environment, I think there's other things that could be done.0
