Yes. Another "cheat day" post.

I looked under my settings to see what my "maintenance" calorie number is. I have 80 lbs to lose and normally eat my -2lb calorie amount. Some have a "treat meal/day". I was thinking to avoid going buckwild and risking a downward spiral I would just eat my maintenance amount one day per week. The number is roughly +600 than normal and I feel that is suitable for a proper "treat". I am really good at fitting "treats" into my day mostly and I don't really avoid or cut out any foods. But sometimes extra Pizza is just necessary. Does anyone else do this or does this seem like a good plan? Thanks:)

I do it as well. Eat up to maintenance once per week. It works fine. Honestly, to lose, you just need to make sure you have a deficit at the end of the week.

I've been over maintenance 2 days this week, but I ate lighter on the rest. I will still lose weight at the end of the week. Still under my total maintenance number. :)

When I have a cheat I like to have popcorn or a wrap of some sort. It's naughty food that tastes yummy but won't add on all those calories that a pizza or a Indian will for example!! try baking some "healthy" muffins. They will feel like a treat but won't hurt the scales!!

Sounds like a great Idea !!! You have put more thought into a cheat meal then most.
I love my pizza Friday and homemade blueberry muffins. :D

With a big deficit, I can see how it would help. Of course, you could just decrease your deficit the other days and integrate pizza in your diet.

That sounds less like a "cheat" day and more like you are learning to work in some higher calorie days to your weekly calorie averaging. That's awesome, and definitely a good skill for when you reach maintenance. Keep logging so you can look back at your weekly charts and evaluate how you do with it.

I do this as well once a week and it hasn't hindered weight loss. Enjoy!

We need to work on your definition of a "Cheat"....

I do a weekly plan of deficit cals Mon-Fri, maintenance cals Sat-Sun. A nice, sustainable balance.

I wish MFP would let you set goals for different days. I change my goals a lot and a lot of times it goes back and changes everything else. I end up in the red for my past days.

What's naughty food?? Do you put it in a timeout? Also how many calories do Indians have per gram and best way to cook them?

Thank you!! I feel like I am on my way to getting the hang of this. Everyone has been very helpful. And I agree that being able to set my calories for that specific day would be nice. I just know the maintenance number and try not to let seeing red bug me too much.

This may be another post entirely.. But while I'm here. The "expected weight loss" pop up drives me insane. When you complete your entry and it projects your weight loss for 5 weeks. Mine jumps 2-4 pounds per day even if I am
On target. Could this be based on macros?

It's based on witchcraft, ignore it.

LOL, it's that "If every day were like today" on diet and activity combined with MFPs assumptions about your metabolism and a linear weightloss. So, you know, not reality.

2-4 pounds is a nothing jump anyway. I lose 2-5 pounds overnight every night in water. Just go for a range you're happy with and keep on trucking.

yeah, I hate the individual food warnings, too. I KNOW BUTTER HAS SATURATED FAT, IDGAF. But, you know. Just a dumb autofilled warning. You sound like you have some sensible flexibility in your plans, so I think you'll do just fine. When all else fails, talk back to the MFP red zone. It's therapeutic. At least that's what I tell my family when they look at me funny.

I cut during the week and usually eat maintenance or thereabouts on the weekends...but I'm also just wanting to cut some vanity pounds as I recently did a bulking cycle.

When i was heavier and initially dieting I ate to maintenance on occasions (i.e. Holidays, birthdays, etc) and occasionally I would eat to maintenance on a Saturday or something if I just needed a break or guests were coming over, etc.

I personally would never describe maintenance calories as cheating though.

I eat like I'm losing 2lb a week on weekdays, and then I go a little over my goal on weekends. My goal is set to 1 lb a week. What happens is that my weekly calories average out to perfect 1lb a week weight loss.

Hopefully that makes sense! Basically, if you feel like that you don't get enough calories to incorporate the foods you like to eat, try setting your goal to 1lb a week weight loss and focus more on the weekly deficit instead of daily. Then you should be able to have your "cheat day" that still fits into your weekly budget!
  • This is actually a great idea! I never thought to do that. I go crazy when I have cheat days and feel horrible while doing it and days after...mentally & physically. Maybe I won't feel so bad if I eat the maintaining goal :)

I eat at maintenance whenever I feel like it. Usually once or twice a week.

Yeah you are right! I just started this. So maybe I'll call it "don't let the red make you cry day":)

I was the exact same! That's when I told myself I just can't do it this way anymore! I felt sick and yucky and like I stunted my hard work just going crazy all day long. I enjoy myself but feel accountable and in control.

Is that a mobile app thing? I've never seen it but only ever log food on the web version. It would probably explode with my fats :p.

Also, both the projected weight loss and the red are dumb.

I save 200 calories each day for Saturdays because I always overeat on Saturdays. I actually will just log an exercise of "saturday calories" that lasts 1 minute and burns 1400 calories.
