I would like to hear what you have to say about fat burning supplements. I want to get an edge. Please tell me about your experience or knowledge on the subject.

Well, your not going to get much love in these forums about supplements. Personally though, I prefer them for various reasons. I take a pre workout, post workout along with a post carb, protein shake before and after gym, a "fat burner" and a test booster. I personally like how those make me feel during and after a workout. I have plenty of energy and my recovery is excellent day after day and I like to hit the weights hard 6 days a week. If you're interested, check out Jim Stoppani's supplement line on bodybuilding.com. great products and he has plenty of videos explaining each product and different workout techniques. Just search "JYM". I'm sure I'm going to get a lot of hate now because I'm endorsing some supplements *eye roll*-3

You'll lose weight, only in the wallet.
Save the money, and eat at a deficit.0 -
They don't work- just skip them.

most supplements are for competitive bodybuilders and athletes. the only ones i'd recommend for the average joe would be a good multivitamin and some whey protein. it's hard to meet daily protein requirements, plus if you lift weights then whey is the fastest way to feed your muscles after the workout.0

Hey! I've tried fat burners over the years and some work and some don't. I like these supplements and use them occasionally. I also take a pre workout, designed specifically for women, a few times a week but not everyday as I find the product somewhat dehydrating. Anyway, I wanted to ask you, what fat burner do you use?? And what pre woekout? I'd like to try magnum heat but not everything agrees w me so i don't want to waste my money. I Just started taking lean plus extra strength and abs plus, both are by genuine health. the supplements are not strong compared to some I've tried. I've heard good results about it though. Also, do you ever feel dehydrated from the supplements? Thanks!0 -
You are better off without them l have tried them in the past they were a waste of money0

Depends on your goals, weight, body fat %, and age. Most people will only suggest protein powder on this forum though.
I depend on diet and exercise. However, I do use a small amount of supplements. So, I'll only provide information to what I use. None of what I use gives a boost in energy or any other bolics about fat burn. Its all has scientific reasoning as to why I use it.
I am 33 years old and Male.
I use the following each day (I eat breakfast and then take it):
3g DAA - Only useful for men over 30. might give you headaches or terrible poo as side effects. stop using if it gives either of those. also, if you dont get your test checked, you wont know if its effective for you. Note: You do not take it nonstop. You cycle it on/off 2 weeks. The test boost % most get declines by the end of the 2nd week and becomes pointless to continue use, hence, the off cycle of 2 weeks to let it leave your system.
studies on it: http://examine.com/supplements/D-Aspartic+Acid/
100mg DIM (found in broccoli) - Men and Women can use it. In women, it affects periods and such. In men, it helps remove excess estrogen and maintain a better test to estro ratio, which is good for men using test boosters (when you boost your test, you also boost your estro. too much estro = man boobs).
Note: youd have to eat 4lbs of broccoli to get 100mg of DIM
studies on it: http://examine.com/supplements/Diindolylmethane/
4g CLA - medical study used 3.2g (my pills are 1g each). My understanding of CLA is that it does not burn fat, but inhibits fat gain (ie preventing fat cells from filling). Also, this: "CLA can preserve lean mass during fat loss."
studies on it: http://examine.com/supplements/Conjugated+Linoleic+Acid/
5g creatine - Do not drink coffee within four hours of taking it. Helps with muscle recovery and soreness during workout. May also allow you to do a few more reps. WARNING: It will dehydrate you. Pretty much double your water intake.
studies on it: http://examine.com/supplements/Creatine/
Protein powder - its protein.
Multivitamin Centrum - you need this when dieting and exercising as you will use a lot of it.

What is it with the pills this week? Sheesh.

Unless you fix the habits that got you to where you are (overweight) once you come off the pills you will most likely gain the weight right back. Diet is 80% of weight loss. Learn to measure and log food properly. Eat at a deficit. And you will lose weight. Fast does not always equal best.0

I think people who cannot answer a post with a legit answer should stay away. Certain supplements work for certain people. If they didn't work for you, all it means is that it didn't work for *YOU*. Yes, some are a waste of money but OP asked those who have experience with them. So if you've never even used supplements and you're posting about how they don't work or are a waste of money it's kind of rude and annoying.
Some people need to get off their high horse.0 -
Do your research first. Supplements will aid in your goals but ultimately it comes down to your diet and training program. Both being equally important. I do take in a few supplements ( Vitamins, CLA, Fish oils, Creatine and BCAA's ). I also cycle through pre workouts ( caffeine will do the same ). Personally I would advice you to learn food first and use supplements once you've almost reached your goals.0

Ok. Here's a legit response for you.
Eat at a deficit. Exercise for fitness. If you are lifting, get enough protein. Drink plenty of water. Get sleep. Rinse, wash and repeat.
A "fat burning" pill is not only bunk (if it really worked, don't you think everyone would be on them?!) but it is also dangerous.
You can't cheat hard work. Period.0 -

^^ All of this.
If there was a magic pill, everyone would be skinny.0 -

I agree with what you said in bold. The point is, he is asking about something else. He is not asking " what do you do to burn fat or lose weight" or " what are some weight loss tips'' etc. I feel that people need to stay on the topic.0 -

No.
First of all, what Troutsy said.
Second of all, if an OP is asking about something potentially dangerous, people should weigh in with better information. That's how people learn. If this was someone asking how to properly throw up after eating, I would hope that people come in and say "Hey - don't do that because it's bad for you and there are better ways."
Plus, this is a public forum. If you are going to post, you should expect all sorts of replies.0 -
I had a pretty bad anemia and lost weight much quicker than anticipated. Once I started taking B12, folate, iron and a few other things the weight loss slowed down. So I guess these supplements works0

@Troutsy LOL uuhmm there is no confusion?
@PRMinx Yes this is a public forum and lots of replies are going to be had. I've just seen tons of people post tons of stuff in general that have nothing to do with the OP and it's irritating, and I know I'm not the only one feeling this way. Also, It just comes off as smug when someone has a disposition that comes off as " No do it my way don't do it your way'0 -

I was more or less looking for a jump start. Not anything long term. I've been consistently going at it since I started my journey two weeks ago and getting started is always the hardest part. The sooner I can see results the more I'm motivated so I just like what I call a jump start. I had to do this same thing in the past from injuries. Which is again this time why I had to take time off. But I totally agree with everyone that's against supplements and I understand. It's just a mental trick I like to play on myself in the early stage of my comebacks.0 -
I would say from my personal experience is that your best way of spending money is to get a blood test done to see what vitamins and minerals you're deficient in, if any. I was SURPRISED by what I was low in. (SODIUM. I NEED TO HAVE MORE SALT, WHAT?) Instead of just guessing and wasting money on a bunch of over-priced stuff you don't need, get an actual blood test done to see what you DO need and get that. Being healthy will speed you along faster than anything else, and actual testing will give you answers more quickly and specifically than guessing.0

No such thing. Consistency and accuracy is all you really need.0
