If you're stopping every 2mi to pee, you're drinking too much. Some people insist on "salting up" with pickle juice, mustard, salt tabs, etc. For one, nobody is likely running in Badwater 135 conditions and second, salt can do funny things like make you want an excessive amount of water. Hyponatremia (over-hydration) will affect you more quietly than dehydration.0 -

Felt really tired out there today, i did 25 minutes of swimming yesterday, i'm not much of a swimmer, felt like that had knocked a lot out of me. Right ankle a bit stiff.

3/20 3 miles. The weather was beautiful for a first day of spring run. My calves felt so tight today though so I am going to be spending a good amount of time with my foam roller so that hopefully my 6 miler tomorrow will be comfortable. I did have my first encounter with a dog coming after me while I was running. I am so so glad that yelling, "NO! GO!" worked because I was really freaked out. I need to remember to bring along my pink Mace thing that I just received from Amazon.

3/4 - 6.1 miles a beautiful 64F at 5:30 am when I ran - ran in a tank top. I love Alabama, tonight it will be 25F with a winter storm watch

3/11 - 4.4 miles - yes yes yes it's been a bit since I was a sub 10:30 pace...10:27 but hey it's sub 10:30 I felt great today! Wish I'd paid better attention to the time, it got way dark and I had to head home. Didn't have my lights with me.

3/13 - lazy day LOL
3/14 - 8.4 miles - cut 4 mins off my time from when I ran this course on 3/7 :-)

I was thinking the same thing. First I wouldn't want to carry that much water with me, second I'd be peeing the whole time.

I was thinking the same thing. First I wouldn't want to carry that much water with me, second I'd be peeing the whole time.
I agree - I would be having to pee every 5 minutes! Not to mention trying to carry all of it with you. No thanks!0 -

I drink a sugar free red bull before I run. Caffeine is a kidney stimulant. No way I'm drinking too much water. Just one pee stop per run.

The endomondo app has a little line about hydration. I suppose it means what I should drink after the run. I just ignore it and use the @lonewolfrunner method of drinking. Plus it's hard to figure out what .93L is.
The thing I usually look at is the humidity and am always happy when it is <99%.

Don't get me wrong, I use McMillan (McRun app) for most of my workout pacing. I think the problem lies in a general misunderstanding (of course, not you Doug) that the pace ranges are hard numbers when they are really statistically estimated workout ranges. If the pace does not feel right or elevates the HR to the wrong zone, each runner has to throw pride out the window and slow down.
TL; DR; Listen to your body.
They're useless unless someone is an elite who has PRs that all correlate, per McMillan. I think most hobby runners like us match up until the predicted marathon time. Plug a recent marathon time in there and those easy paces change drastically.
I only use them as a workout guideline to help take me from where I am to where I want to be. I think of these ranges in the same aspect of Yasso 800s: there has been no proof to show that you will run your predicted marathon time if you can complete 10 Yassos in your prescribed time. Either way, both are decent for workout purposes only.
Despite the prescribed workout pace range, I just listen to my body. If it feels wrong or too fast, I slow down, run more miles, and do my best to keep at least 80% of my runs at an easy pace. Long and slow equals speed..0 -

Just to show how out of shape I am and how far I have to go, if I had to run at 75% of my max it just be a fast walk (which is probably why I still do walk breaks until my hr hits 150-160). My resting hr is 58. Max 186,192+ if its hot out... A comfortable run for me is about 175.
Maybe by this time next year my numbers will be better.
@Elise4270: don't be discouraged about how "out of shape" you think you are. We ALL have a long way to go. Even if/when we get there, we will set new goals, push to do better, and set out to smash our new goals
Just keep up the good work, stay consistent, and continue putting in the miles -- you'll be surprised at where you're at in a year!
