HEALTHY snacks?

What are some great tasting healthy snack alternatives that won't ruin my diet?

  • I make homemade popcorn with coconut oil. I also love Halo's and they are only 40 calories per Halo!

My standbys are raw veg - carrot, cucumber, celery, radishes with Quark low fat curd cheese and a couple of Ryvita crackerbreads (only 19 calories per slice); oranges, pears, bananas - allow one a day as they're not as calorie-free as lots of people think; couple of hundred grams of soft fruits like raspberries or strawberries with a fat free weightwatchers fruit yoghurtn (60 calories).

My snacks tend to be centered around getting more protein in my diet. So I reach for things like string cheese, hard boiled eggs, hummus & veggies, beef or turkey jerky, nuts, protein bars.

Home made chunky veg soup is always good, especially when it's cold.
  • Halo's are like bite sized oranges. They are so good. As for the popcorn I have an actual popcorn make but you could just cook it on the stove with a spoonful of coconut oil.

I like peanut butter on celery (salty & crunchy protein)- sometimes I add raisins(AKA ants on a log) if I want a bit of sweet.

I'M going to definitely try the popcorn idea, and as for halo I remember having them before they look like tangerines and come in a bag .THANKS

I love fruit salads, you can really change them up with different fruits which is nice. Cottage cheese is also a favorite of mine and I saw that someone mentioned frozen grapes and they are really good!

It always surprises me when people say they haven't tried hummus. Maybe depends on where you live?

I agree with popcorn, and pretzels and Wheat Thins crackers are also good with hummus. You could melt a few bittersweet dark chocolate chips in a bowl in the microwave, then dip slices of apple in the chocolate and roll the dipped end in oatmeal or chopped nuts. Simple can be good, too. I love cheese toast, and it is super easy. Sometimes I do a mini meal, such as a half roast beef sandwich with a half cup (or cup, depending on your calorie goals) of fruit like melon or pineapple. Depending on where you are snacking, you could just do a bowl of cereal with nuts and fruit or scrambled eggs and toast. Don't let the time of day affect what you eat. If you want a slice of leftover pizza or a sandwich for breakfast, then eat it. So in that sense, snacks don't always have to be "typical" snack foods. Sometimes my snack is a taco salad or nachos with black eyed peas or beans on them. If you are snacking at work and have access to a microwave or fridge, you can still make yummy things if you plan ahead and do all your measuring and counting beforehand.

Hummus for me too! Make sure you get a flavored kind though. I like garlic or roasted veggie.
