So what you all are saying is...when I get World of Warcraft and "Bigger WILL Make Her Scream!" ads, it's my tipoff that my husband has been secretly using my computer?0

I have Under Armour ads from the sporting goods store with the name that MFP likes to censor.
I've also noticed that ads that I see also match up with a topic a thread that I open along with my browsing history. MFP doesn't control what ads pop up but if it bothers you that much get the ad blocker as suggested by others.0 -

I don't think that the ads in our newsfeeds (or whatever it is called on MFP) are based on browsing history. I get a lot from the Cleveland Clinic, which is fairly close by, and I've never looked up that website.0

Hahaha! I feel ya! And I guarantee I do not ever search "fast food"...or "cookies"...or sites for men with hair loss issues??0
-
They are at least in part based on browsing history--have to be, or it's just too much of a coincidence that as soon as I searched for cricket flour I started getting ads for every cricket and other insect based food item available.0

I don't know why you'd get that one, but there must be some algorithm that makes them think that would apply to you, whether it is just vicinity or something else. My husband had the same question, and I proved it to him by googling for a specific national chain store, then refreshed MFP a few times, and within 3 minutes I started getting ads for that store.0 -
Agreeing they are part based on browsing history, part not based. I never looked up Angies list, but totally looked up sandals on Zappos.0
-
Yeah, that's true. I get ads for random local things here all the time.0
-
Today's are Angie's List (which I have looked up, but guess it's not that), and TurboTax, since it just wants me to feel guilty/stressed about not having done my taxes yet. Thanks, MFP!0

Glad Wrap now. Pfeh. We're still working our way through a warehouse club pack of clingwrap that was first opened by my late mother-in-law. She passed away 3 years ago.0

Wait...don't you have to GET UP to go to steak and shake? Just askin....0

I'm pretty sure it's not ALL from your browser though. I've been getting a lot of ads in Spanish for some bizarre reason, and all I know in that language are some food words and "Where is the library." I guess if I get into that stereotypical predicament where I need a bathroom in a Spanish-speaking country I'll just hunt down the nearest library and use the bathroom there?0

That's not fair!! How come I don't get ANY food ads?! All these people complaining... right now I have "get a new deck for your home" and "start your fitness specialist training" (both things I've never ever searched for - I don't even own a house) This has got to be some kind of favoritism or something!!0

I just get ads for sports bras and holidays, which 100% correlates with stuff I Google.0

AdBlock Plus, a bacon steak burger and a strawberry shake.0

I have an ad for PBR Bull Riding and Rodeo. I haven't surfed for that some I wonder if I called Bull$%& somewhere...0 -
Usually I get my boss's face on a Car Dealership ad since I'm always on our work website on my phone 0.0; He follows me everywhere....

Mine keeps popping up with cell phone ads, car ads, and antivirus ads. I have not looked up any of those things in months.
I used to get food ones, probably because I used to look up nutritional info online.0 -

P.S. I don't have any kids.

whats wrong with steak and shake, I mean I think that place is disgusting, but if someone wants to eat there once in a while, what is the big deal? I am sure you can fit one of their meals into your calories/micro/macro target for the day.0
