I recently found out that I am type 2 diabetic, I have a cyst in my left overy the size of s goose egg, I have polycystic overies, and my thyroid level is abnormal. I am only 19 years old. Because of how abnormal my thyroid is and my night shift schedule all I ever do is sleep and work. It's really hard for me to eat healthy because when I do I will get bored with eating the same things over and over. I'm tired and sick a lot. My head is hurting bad just writing this. Can anyone please give me tips to motivate myself or new healthy foods that won't cost me a arm and a leg to buy. This is also causing me to go into depression and I can't handle it. I just want to give up everyday.

What? Why nice try? I'm actually wanting some help with this.0

u need a dr and a registered dietitian. they will give u an eating plan. u have too many health concerns for most of us to give helpful advice0
-
If writing a post gives you a headache, I don't know how you're going to manage the work it takes to implement a healthy lifestyle.
You should talk to your doctor.-1 -
I've already seen a dietitian and doctors are getting ready to start me on thyroid medicine I'm just needing a boost and I thought by talking the people that were doing the almost exact same thing. Maybe I could get support from people trying to lose weight just like me. Nice to know its a lost cause0

i agree with @jenncornelsen but for the others is it really necessary to be rude?0

motivation comes from within. u have to seriously want it. healthy food is not more expensive than say drive thru. learn to cook. start walking. get rid of all the junk in your house if portion control is a problem. i cant give u exact advice since i dont know how it would react with meds u might be on for your condition. u dont need to eat the same thing. theres a million healthy foods out there. if u want to get started cooking try skinnytaste website.0
-
It's not a lost cause. I think with your medical problems, nobody here is quite qualified to give you advice, from a medical standpoint. I think all you can do is just take it a step at a time, a meal at a time, a day at a time.
Start small, that's all you have to do. Make a little change here and there.0 -
Thank you. I already feel pretty down about everything I just wanted support and help. I didn't think it would make me feel worse than I already do.0

Thanks I just feel like giving up.0

Some really snarky replies here. I too have a multitude of health issues to deal with and know how you feel. Can I suggest a few things; go to your doctor and get your thyroid function sorted. That really is No. 1. When you have thyroid problems you will have trouble thinking and maintaining a positive attitude. No.2. Go to your OB/GYN and talk about treatment options for your ovarian problems. Now when you have those things under control you can then think of life changes (not diet). Healthy food is not boring, as a matter of fact most people eat a pretty healthy diet, just too much of it. But that is a conversation to be had after you have your health issues sorted.0

Eating healthy is NOT expensive! You fill up much faster than you do with cheap junk food.. What is more important? Your health or your grocery bill?0

I agree that eating healthy can be cheap but I hate the whole "what is more important? Your health or your grocery bill?" mentality -- In my case my grocery bill will ALWAYS come first. That doesn't mean I'm going to cut down to $50/mo and eat nothing but instant ramen but the point is I have a set budget for a reason and don't have the ability to go over that grocery budget. Yes I know how to eat healthy for as much or less as eating unhealthy but the not everyone does.0 -
i think u need to change your mindset. right from the get go it sounds like u have already given up. that its too hard. its not. u have to do this. tell yourself u can and u will. u dont have to be perfect. u just have to keep trying. everyday alittle bit better. it takes three weeks to create a habit. start tomorrow. do u live with your parents? can they help with this?0

Well first off thank you @85kurtz . I went to my obgyn and he said for us to wait it out and put me on meds if it doesn't shrink or bust on its own then I have to have surgery. My last doctor told me that my thyroid was the last of my problems and that I needed to lose 100 pounds. So I'm seeing a new doctor this month and getting my thyroid handled off the bat. @nicolemcmillan you pay my bills then tell me which is more important. I have bought things that are healthy for me and have eaten them but sometimes instead of buying oranges for 6.95 a bag I prefer to go get raspberry sherbet. For 2.50. So yeah judge all you want but sometimes it is cheaper and sometimes it's not.0

Giving up or not giving up will have nothing to do with what others have said but with a decision you are making.
If you want a boost that it can be done (which it can) I suggest going to the Success Stories page and read through those stories. I'm not quite sure what type of support and help you are looking for in regards to motivation on an internet forum, even if it is a site that people use for losing/maintaining/gaining weight. Whatever the goal it will be reached because each of us are making a personal decision to do it, not because people on the forum are saying we will. The motivation HAS to come from within because you are the one that will need to make sure you are taking your medication, going to follow-up doctor's appointments, following up with your dietician/nutritionist, eating the food he/she is telling you to eat, etc. - all those things have to come from you if you're really going to be successful. You can most definitely succeed but you will need to change your attitude towards it.
As for the food ideas. Like someone else said, it would be difficult for any of us to give you an idea of what foods to eat because we don't know what your specific health conditions and medications will require.0 -
I didn't know their were success stories I just started this application today and @jenncornelsen I don't live with them. I just gotta push myself and try my best that's all I can do0

Sorry that's not what I meant... My point is do you think a roman grocery bill is satisfactory or can you afford $30 - $40 more a week for nutritional foods and are just being stingy with the spending. That's really the hard truth to it and what it boils down to.. I had to give up my weekly movie nights to make my budget work for me but I changed my diet and how I feel now was worth every penny!0 -

Keep in mind though that the bag of oranges will probably last you 3-5 times longer and the tub of sherbet. I don't know about you but I can mow down a thing of ice cream in 2-3 days by myself.

Again I pay bills and whatever is left goes to groceries.0

Listen. You are 19 and you have SO many years of wonderful life ahead of you if you fix things now. Being healthy is NOT boring. Eating healthy is NOT boring. I'm 43, and when I look back at the last 24 years, the times I liked myself most were the times where I was active and in better shape. Make health your hobby. Like, let it consume you for a while! Read and research about nutrition. Buy health magazines for motivation. Learn to cook lighter, more nutritious meals. It's fun, and I repeat... NOT boring! If you google "healthy meals on a budget" you'll find a gazillion links worth of ideas. Start walking... Not for exercise, but because it's fun to get out and see your city, nature, etc.
You are at the perfect age to reinvent yourself. Anyone is, really. But you have your whole adulthood ahead of you! Be awesome. It's your right and it's within your reach.

If you are looking for excuses, you are going to find them. We ALL have bills. I'm about $6000 in debt with medical bills alone. Payment plans! If all you can afford is $10 a month, tell them that. Your eating reflects exactly how you feel.0 -
Lol @abetterluke true but sometimes I just don't have the money for things. I really try to get healthier foods when I can but sometimes to make sure I can afford essentials and food I don't have enough for everything.0

Like I said...depends on the person. For me? No way could I handle an extra $30-$40 more a week. You're talking $120-$160 per month. That's the equivalent of most peoples car payments. I get what you're saying but not everyone can raise their budget. I support a family of 4 on only my salary in one of the most expensive areas in the US as far as cost of living goes.

If you go to the main page in forums you will see the heading "Success Stories" - read through them. They are motivating and you might find someone with similar issues or health issues that they were able to deal with and still manage to lose weight.
Again, in the end it's all up to you - you CAN do it but you have to change your attitude ... You don't have to eat the same things in order to be healthy. Some people do because they know what they like and they enjoy eating the same stuff. Others change it up. You can have a raspberry sorbet if it fits in your calories. If you live on your own, do you need to buy a bag of oranges? Can you buy just a couple of them for less than $6.95? What about frozen veggies? Not that expensive. No one is saying you have to buy organic or anything like that. There are ways, you just have to be in the right mindset in order to set a plan in place. That's where your doctors and nutritionist will come in to help you get there by giving you the medication required to address your health issues.

Ok from your post you state you have three conditions.
You should be working with your Dr and dietician on a diet/ exercise regime that is appropriate to assisting these three conditions. Maybe they can refer you to a counselor for some support and advice if you feel you cant cope.
The idea that you eat fast food because you decide you get bored and wont cook, is soemthing you are going to have to take responsibility for. You should be bothered about your health and feeling better and for that you require knowledge as well as yaking the time to learn what you should and shouldnt be eating. Hopefully once you start following a more suitable diet then you will feel the benefits healthwise, which could improve your mood and general health.
Some links as a starting point for knowledge and advice

Thyroid

For support maybe ask for people with those conditions or join one of the groups, which am sure exist. that way you cna find out how other people manage. There are tens of thousands on this site, so many people will know and undestand what you are going through, they just might not be logged on at the moment.
Be patient, listen to your Dr and educate yourself then take responsibility for improving how you cope with each aspect in the knowledge you will feel better. Be positive and confident you cna make things better , it may be just by avoiding some foods or learning some simple recipes that use non aggravating ingredients. Next time you see the Dr or dietician then tell them how low you cna feel, so they cna take that into account. It will just take a while to sort out in the meantime hang in there and good luck.0 -
First off, you need to change your attitude. Everyone, can eat at a deficit. Start, by eating what you normally do, only less and you'll lose weight. Incorporate more fruits, vegetables and lean meats into your diet. This does not mean "more expensive", it means making different choices at the grocery.0

Thank you and I found the success stories than you all but I need sleep talk to you later0

Hi Dramaqueen. I have lots of health issues too (although different to yours), and some days are so hard.
I am on day 40, and 18lbs down. Im in a wheelchair and have probs with chronic pain, ibs arthritus and some other issues too.
It is hard. Every day is hard, im not going to lie to you. But after a few weeks I found I fell into a routine of sorts, and that helps.
I also have a sweet tooth, so get what you mean with regards to your food bills. Some days I eat utter rubbish, but i tend to find the more crap i eat the more hungrier I feel...over time you naturally turn to food that keeps you fuller for longer. It does even itself out over time cost wise I have found, but it takes time for thimgs to settle. I am now pretty organised with my treats, for example i weighed all my easter choc into set portion sizes, this would have been unthinkable forty days ago, I would have scoffed the lot!
For me, I find I work best concentrating a couple of days at a time, planning my meals and including regular treats. Some days I go over my cal allowance (like today!) but its not a problem as I know tomorrow will be better.
The feeling of getting through a day in the green is great and after you have lost the first few lbs it gives you the motivation to keep going.
Add me as a friend if you like.
You can do this, one day at a time. Be kind to yourself.0 -
I have a thyroid problem and for me cutting out White bread, white potatoes, white rice etc... Anything white helped me so much! Also I cut out Sodas High sugar Juice or drinks and sugar all together. All I drink is water or SOBE light made with Stevia.. I still treat myself once in a while like once every few weeks.. I eat salad a lot with added protein and lots of veggies and fruits.. This app myfitnesspal has helped me tremendously!! I'm losing every week!! Don't listen to negativity.. You can do this!!! I've always struggled so I knw how you feel!! Definitely read the success stories0
