What is it that helps you on a day to day basis not to go over your calories?

the fact i dont want to be fat
and exercise. cause i love to eat0 -
Being very weary of what I eat. Record everything and I mean EVERYTHING that you eat.0

Changed food's role in my life. I am now eating to live instead of living to eat. BIG difference!!! and when you understand it, many, many things become clear0

Habit at this point.
At first pre-logging helped immensely. Planning out your day food wise makes it more obvious that eating is a requirement for living and not something to necessarily be done for enjoyment or even boredom. That changed my mindset about it tremendously.0 -
A recent 4.5 day stay on the cardiac floor of my local hospital. It certainly was an eye-opener. I need to lose about 40 lbs to be a healthy BMI.0

For me, it's living a healthy lifestyle so I'll live longer and be happier. I'm not "fat" but have about five more lbs I want to lose. When I lose those five lbs and go into maintenance, I'll still log calories, because the worst thing would be to gain it all back!!!

think about wearing my clothes that are all fitted and no stretchy waist, be out of them in a heart beat 10-15 lbs would do it0

Call me weird, but I get a strange satisfaction out of closing my diary and staying just under my calorie goal. I also find it fun to get creative about what I want to eat and making it fit. I don't see it as an inconvenience or hassle at all. I know that sticking to my goals will get me the body I feel confident in for swim suit season!0

Eating lots of veggies and fiber and protein. I feel completely satisfied!
Having treats after a meal like dark chocolate or tea w/stevia satisfies my sweet tooth.-1 -

Fear.
Fear of slipping back into an unhealthy lifestyle.
Fear of having to take more meds.
Fear of grossing myself out with uncontrolled eating.
Fear I'll gain weight again and won't enjoy my old age.
So happy I've made the change with the help of MFP.

I want the weight gone a lot more than I want the extra calories. Being a healthy weight > a bag of doritos.0

It makes me feel great when I log ALL my calories for the day and it tells me how much I'll weigh in 5 weeks. Really puts things into perspective for me.0

And also make sure to eat a lot of protein bc it'll fill you up and not make you so hungry. I get mine from greek yogurt, eggs, lean meat, lentils, etc...0

Pre-logging helps me immensely. I leave some calories unplanned for spontaneous snacks, but I pre-log all my meals, often five or six days ahead of time. I don't know what it is, but having everything already recorded really helps me stick with it.0

My desire to not be fat again is stronger than my desire to go over my calories.0

Concentrating on the things that I need to ADD to my diet to make sure I get enough of, meaning protein, fiber and water. Doing that somewhat naturally makes me avoid the "bad" stuff because I am often too full after that.0

Cooking as much as I can at home and being as exact as I possibly can on my portions helps quite a bit, getting enough exercise also helps.
Something else that I've found to help when I have to eat out is to pre-check calories and macros in the food database on the fitness app (I use two apps) to see what a particular item has for calories and macros.
if what I want doesn't come up in either database, I don't get that item... Unless it's a cheat meal.0 -
Exercise, strangely enough, because I am working so hard that I don't want to waste all that effort.
And a high protein, high fat, low carb, whole foods diet really helps to cut down on cravings and leaves me feeling satiated enough to eat (at least) a few hundred calories less each day than I would otherwise.0 -

The fact that when I stopped logging calories last summer and guessed, I gained nearly all 20 lbs back. And spreading the food out throughout the day. If I eat a big meal early, I'm still hungry later, and more likely go over my goal. If I forget to eat in the morning, I'm not hungry for all of the calories I still need in the afternoon/evening. So I have to have the small meal in the morning, medium lunch, and then I design supper to fit whatever calories I have left.
Except on workout days. Workout days I eat WHATEVER I want, because I cannot possibly overrun my calorie limit after teaching martial arts for 3 hours and participating for 3 more.0 -
Meal prep in advance.
And the red scares me. lol0
