FitBit - Yes or No

I've looked at it after seeing so many people say they love it. I'm not planning to get one. I am happy with my progress without one and money is tight. I'm not a very gadgety person though. I don't even wear a watch most of the time.0

Overall, it's a great tool except for stationary bikes. It does not track worth a damn.0

LOL. Truuuue. I should probably get on that. I've been slacking!

I use the Fitbit Surge, used the Basis, and I am getting the Apple Watch. They are all great products. You need to consider your goals and price points. I like the surge alot. However the HRM is not real time. I wear a chest strap HRM with the Suunto Ambit 2 to get my just in time HR. The Basis was ok but the Surge has a bigger community base and integrates with more products and applications (myfitnesspal and diettogo as examples). The Surge keeps track of steps - the Apple Watch does not. If it wasn't for all the other apps on the Apple Watch - I would not have ordered it. The people I know with the Apple Watch think it is a great product.0

I'm getting the Fitbit Charge HR for Mother's Day. It's on order and i can't wait until it gets here!!! I had a vivofit and loved the step-counter and sleep graphs. Since I lost my vivofit, I decided to upgrade to a model with a HR monitor. I never eat back my exercise calories, so while calories burned is "interesting", they are of no consequence related to MFP.0

Where is the best place to get a fit bit?0
-
my husband ordered mine directly online from fitbit. We tried Best Buy and other stores around here but none had the fitbit charge HR in stock. He was given a 3-4 week delivery window.0

I just got a fit it flex for mothers day and I love it! Definitely a good motivation to get moving, since it tells on me when I'm lazy! There is no lying to yourself when it's staring at you from your phone screen!0

Depends which one you want, some can be out of stock.
I found my flex at REI, but we had to go/call Sports Authority, all our local Fred Meyers and Walmart's, and Dick's Sporting goods to find my boyfriends charge HR in a large. Target should have them too.0 -
My activity level has gone through the roof since getting a fitbit. I've got the basic zip as I've heard too many negatives about the HRM ones, plus I'm not keen on wearing a bracelet, plus I often walk with my hands in my pockets because it's getting cold here. The only exercise I do is walking, so an expensive heart rate monitor fitbit would probably be a waste of money for me.0

I am totally lost without my Fitbit. I chose the Flex so I could wear it 24/7 including in the shower and in the pool. It is the only Fitbit model that is water resistant.0

How is the sleep tracking for Charge HR? Is it accurate?0

FitBit's are fantastic! Get one!0

Yep. I have the Charge HR.
It's not going to be 100% but like any measuring device, you can spot trends.
Helps me eat enough on rest days.0 -

If you want to use it to track your HR during exercise, one thing to know is that the Charge uses some data type that can't be read by other apps. I didn't find out until I linked it to MapMyRide for the real time audio feedback to stay in the right HR zone...and found out that doesn't work with the Charge. I wish I'd gone ahead and spent the extra for the Surge.

I have the charge HR and I love it!! People say it isn't accurate but I have lost 30lbs using it and at the beginning I ate back 50-75% of the exercise calories it gave me. Now I find I don't need to eat that much in general but I have MFP set to 1lb loss a week and I've been loosing 1.5lbs a week with cheat meals on weekends. I'm very Happy with it. Plus the sleep tracker is really Cool, if not very useful.0

I love my charge HR. I find it makes calorie logging super accurate. With the combination of MFP and fitbit, I log my food on MFP. Just be aware that if you back to your food diary for a previous day about 100-200 of the calories it said you burned will be gone (if you allow negative calorie adjustments). Dunno why, just does it.
Not sure if anyone replied to you, I'm to lazy to read every post, but you'll see that it may take a few calories away the next day because fitbit measures midnight to midnight. Say you're really active all day, it projects what your burn will be at that level. It thinks youll stay that active until midnight. When you sync the next day, it logs the info and registers that you did slow down your activity so it adjusts according to the data it took in your rest period up until midnight. Hope that makes sense!0 -
It depends what you use it for.
If you want it for the placebo effect, i.e. to motivate you to walk more? Sure, why not?
If you want it for any kind of accurate calorie measurement, then probably not.

I have a surge and I like the text & phone alerts. I also like the heart rate function for information purposes. Counting steps/walking has been the best for increasing my TDEE vs trying to calculate exercise. I don't add exercise to my diary....just go by fitbit calorie adjustments and it works well for me. If I was a runner, the GPS function would be really fun but it does drain the battery.
Overall, in my opinion, the fitbit helps get me moving without overtaxing my body with over lifting/heavy cardio or endless exercise classes that tend to deplete my immune system and lead to burnout. I would feel like in order to eat more, I needed to do these workouts. I still do them but because they don't increase my steps much, I limit them to a couple times a week and focus more on walking or more NEAT (cleaning the house, shopping, parking far away from store, taking the stairs, etc).0 -
I credit mine with opening my eyes to how inactive I was. I knew it, but didn't have any way to evaluate the severity. Hope that makes sense! It can be a great device - depending on how you're motivated.
- If you're motivated by competition, Fitbit has challenges. Work week, weekend, single day.
- If you're motivated to beat yourself, Fitbit has badges you earn for reaching certain levels of steps per day and other things depending on the model.
- If you're motivated to earn rewards, many sites work with Fitbit (and other trackers) where you earn points that convert to cash for your activity. Examples Walgreen Rewards, Fitstudio (spendable at Sears, Kmart - can earn $5-7 a week easily), Pact (app where you commit to healthy activities, make $ if you meet your commitment or pay if you don't).
It is NOT a magic device that will make you move. I have the One and it was the right device for me based on: I want a clip onto the body style - I do not wear anything on my wrists. Fitbit seems well rating for trackers in terms of accuracy. Not saying they are guaranteed to be 100% accurate but compared to other trackers, they are the most accurate. Good customer service, though I've never had a problem. Works well with MFP, though I did find MFP after Fitbit.
Things to decide when getting a tracker: do you want to wear it on your wrist? What features do you want it to track? Does it need to be waterproof/water resistant? Does the device have applications that cooperate with other apps that you use?I am looking at the FitBit - what does everyone feel about this? Pros and cons. Thanks so much!
