Any Whole Food dieters our there?

I'm currently on a major lifestyle overhaul and looking for buddies on a similar journey. I'm currently doing a whole foods diet where I try and keep my meal items to one ingredient. For example, chicken with fresh green beans on the side...not chicken greenbean casserole. I'm also trying to stay away from possessed foods...so frozen diet dinners are out. On the exercise side I am doing both cardio and weight training. Anyone else interested in a simple living type of program send me a friend request. I have 100 pounds to lose, I log in everyday and I'm on a mission.....any takers?

I've been switching to more whole foods and educating myself on what actually goes into our "health foods" I have only a couple pounds to shed but a whole lot of life I would like to gain by switching how I eat! I would totally embark on this journey with you! I also do light weight training and cardio I've fallen in love with Pilates as of late and Walking at home0

What are possessed foods? Are they worse than bad foods? Or dirty foods?
That sounds like a life of living hell to me... So perhaps it's your food that's possessed! Haha... Even when eating nutritious meals, I could never just eat a couple of random ingredients on a plate.0 -
i dont know? I ate rice porridge for breakfast with raisins, tofu scramble with veggies for lunch, hummus and cucumbers for snack, and I will be eating a bean burrito for dinner... a strawberry popsicle for dessert.
Tofu is processed, and hummus I bought is surely processed, the strawberry fruit Popsicle is also processed...

That's actually how I usually eat at home. I BBQ a lot. Chicken, steaks, fish, sometimes they're on the bbq sometimes they are in a pan. I do season my meats and sometime marinade them. I've never been fond of TV dinners or prepackaged frozen foods. I just try to buy fresh foods not stuff that comes out of boxes. I've never been a big desert eater my problem had been portion control and I like Popcorn, coke and icecream. I eat too much meat and top it off with Coke and a chaser of icecream each night. Then I'd sit down watch TV and eat microwave popcorn. I still watch TV but now I'm doing it on my treadmill so I can't eat while I'm doing that. I'm also trying to train myself not to over eat when I do go out to a nice dinner. You know, get water instead of the coke, dont fill up on the bread, get the grilled Salmon instead of the Lasanga all those things that can lead to a 3000 calories dinner. I'm just tired of all the fast food joints...they're not even that good anyways. I'm not saying I'm never going back to In-N-Out but maybe next time I do I don't get the double double I just get the cheese burger.

I'm not against them I'm just not really a big bread eater. Same with oatmeal...never really been a fan it's too mushy.0 -
My daily meals contain mostly whole foods.
And some processed.
There is no way in America to get entirely away from processed. I'm just doing my best to avoid them. Not because I think they're going to kill me but because I actually prefer cooking with fresh foods. I'm a huge Top Chef fan. Clean simple food... seasoned and cooked well there's nothing better.0 -

Hi, OP. That's pretty much how I tend to cook, generally has been, actually, and I find it a lot faster to cook on a nightly basis than some kind of casserole type thing (which has never been to my taste anyway, perhaps because I grew up in the '80s, an era of bad casseroles). ;-) I do make pasta with a fresh meat and veg based sauce or stir fries with same, so I'm not 100% sure where you draw the line, but am open to sharing ideas.
My biggest struggle is trying to get myself to make lunches on a regular basis--there are lunch places around my office that have food I have no problems with, but spending the money just doesn't make sense when compared to cooking for myself.
I started a plan to lose 100 lbs at the end of Jan last year and have lost 95. Been maintaining for a bit before getting ready to lose the last bit, as I'm reasonably happy where I am now.
I will say that although I have certain ideas about how I like to cook (protein and veggie based meals, veggies at all meals, etc.) I am not perfect and I do happen to go out for dinner a couple times a week, as well as the meal buying and various use of Quest bars and protein powder. I took the last week or so off logging after finding I was kind of burnt out, but plan to get back to it this coming week. You can check out my diary which is pretty complete for a range of calorie levels starting back last March and if interested I'm open to friend requests.

I should say that whether something is technically "processed" or not is not something I worry about. I try to focus on nutrient dense foods (although I also include moderate amounts of desserts like ice cream), and I read the ingredients on anything I buy that has ingredients and understand what's in it, but for me the issue is whether it's nutritious and fits my personal food preferences, not what I consider the rather unimportant question of whether one might call it "processed" (most things are, certainly once we cook them) or highly processed.
For example, when I get food from a restaurant it's obviously "highly processed" in the sense that it's prepared and cooked for me with a variety of ingredients, but if they are good and nutritious ingredients I see no reason to object--although I am wary of calories, of course.
Similarly, although I generally don't care for frozen meals for various reasons such as personal taste and that I enjoy cooking and tend not to find them as satiating as what I would otherwise eat, there are some that have good ingredients so I wouldn't write them all off as not fitting in a nutrient dense diet. That's just how I think of it and related to why you get some flack here when you bring up processed vs. not. There's usually something else that you are really thinking of, I think.0 -

I have a thing with diet drinks. You couldn't pay me to drink them. Call me crazy but I have a terrible gut feeling those artificial sweeteners aren't as safe as the big companies lead consumers to believe they are....
No research facility is going to go up against coca cola et al and say their products are poisoning us.

When I say processed I'm referring to some item in a package that when you look at the ingredients ....half of them you can't even pronounce the name or even know what they are.0

But what I don't understand is the issue with frozen foods. In many cases, frozen foods have more nutrients than fresh. I'm sorry, but I have to wonder what the value is of such a restrictive way of eating, especially if you look at it as "doing a diet" instead of making a long-term lifestyle change. I'm also uncertain of how the value of turkey, rice, and a veg changes by taking them from individual items arranged on a plate and then putting them in a casserole dish together (as an example). Is it because there's a fat (sour cream) or a sauce (mushrooms and cream) holding them together that makes them bad?0
