Taking another rest day and tapering for the Cotton Row Run 10K on Monday. I plan to do a 6 miler (hopefully slow) tommorow morning with my running group. I tend to run faster than I intend if I run with a group. The strategy is to run it at my long run pace with maybe some short strides at my goal race pace just to shake them out.

I am gonna post this video here like I did in the Long Distance Runners group. Very insightful regarding the Kenyans and how they train. I know it's a long video but well worth it.
Born to Run: The Secrets of Kenyan Athletics (Man On A Mission)
Former Irish athlete and 5,000m world champion Eamonn Coghlan travels to Kenya's highlands to uncover a little-known story - the role of Irish missionaries in securing Kenya's dominance in world athletics. He meets Brother Colm O'Connell, a modest priest who played a major role in fostering Kenyan distance running and who is now considered one of the world's top athletics coaches. Watching him train the 800m world-record holder David Rudisha, Eamonn observes at first-hand his unlikely but lasting legacy. Part travelogue, part tribute, the documentary also features an interview with Eamonn's childhood hero, the great Olympic athlete Kip Keino. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mGVSO1sg2Fk 0 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mGVSO1sg2Fk 0

I saw on runners world today that Spotify is offering a new feature for runners. According to your pace, it picks music that corresponds to your pace. I'm not sure if it's free, but I plan on checking it out.

@skippygirlsmom Yay, Skip! She's just passing all her tests with flying colors lately! My brother recently got his permit (he's 14 going on 15), and when I go home I'm sure he's going to want to drive me around... Eeeek!0

180 steps per second is considered by most experts to be the ideal pace (candence wise) for long distance running. Here are some sample videos to help.
I am thinking about downloading them to my phone and maybe work these into a long run. I haven't ran to music in a while but this may be a nice change. All of these videos were either created or modified to be exactly 180 beats per minute. (each foot should drop to the ground at each beat). https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IkMpXLXIwG4 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IkMpXLXIwG4

I've been using song BPM to help me pace myself as I run. I'm not up to 180BPM, however. Some links that may be of use to those interested in using BPM to help pace:
Scroll half way down to get a correlation between BPM and target minutes/mile:
 http://www.nola.com/running/index.ssf/2011/09/speed_training_by_bpm_beats_pe.html
There's some variability, but I've found this is fairly accurate for me.
Find out the BPM of your favorite songs:

Same concept, but it only goes to 170BPM.

            @Stoshew71 @7lenny7 Wow! I'm behind on the music! I'm taking note!0
-
            I forgot this one:
 https://www.cs.ubc.ca/~davet/music/bpm/index.html
I find I like to give potential songs for my playlist a brief listen before adding them. While some may be the right BPM, they may not work well for running, at least for me.0

Ok - now going for 150 miles this month... figured I'd drop off my mileage post-marathon, but I'm itching to get under 1:40 at my next half marathon, 3:30 for my marathon next January and have another 7lb to lose to reach my weight loss goal.

Had a great run tonight! Took it easy and felt great the whole time. I wanted to keep going but I have a 5k Monday and didn't want to overdo it.
Tomorrow is a sailing day so no running. Sunday I may go for a 2 miles easy run or else a 4 mile walk.

@johnsonnelly running in the rain (not monsoons like @annekka has to contend with) is lovely! And hard core. Good job! 0 0
