I think I read somewhere that shoes should be replaced after 300 miles...Is this erroneous?

@Wendy1Fl They normally say around 500 but it can depend on many things from the way you run, your weight the surfaces you run on. I had one pair of road shoes I ran in most of last winter that had around 800 miles on them before I retired them. I've had other shoes such as asics that don't last me more than around 300 (so I don't buy them any more)' Trail shoes is a different kettle of fish I normally destroy the uppers before anything else on my trail shoes. 400- 500 is a good guide imo along with a sprinkling of common sense

Yep and my Altras are not known for lasting a long while... I do figure I can get another 100 on them while I wait for my new ones to arrive and get broken in to be regular running shoes...

@Elise4270 - so cool to have Bart Yasso speak! wow!!
@HonuNui - love your snorkeling pics as always!!
@ddmom0811 - love that you are running a 5k on the beach! Should be so much fun!!
@karllundy - good luck with the half and have a great time!!
@baldielove13 - congratulations on hitting 100!! Great job!
@skippygirlsmom - we are neck and neck finishing out the month and getting to goal :)
@kimlight2 - congratulations on completing your first 5k! great job!! I could not run in that heat and humidity!
@7lenny7 - aww... just rub Kody off with a towel and he will be fine! Or give him a quick bath :) I am sure he had a blast getting to run with you! I also love rain runs and running with my dog!
@ddmom0811 - my daughter and I are doing the SF 1st half and as she informed me tonight, it is just 8 weeks (almost 7) away. I was going to run it for time, but it is her first half and I am so excited a) to be running in SF and across the GG bridge and b) having the opportunity to do 'a' with her I think I will just run with her and we will finish together. There will be many others to run for time!

Tomorrow is a rest day (instead of Sunday) because I have things to do so switching my long run to Sunday. Plan calls for at least 11 - going to have to be up and out early before it gets hot!

    5/1- rest day
    5/2 - 5 miles 8K Steeple Chase Race
    5/3 - 3.5 miles
    5/4 - rest day
    5/5 - 6.3 miles
5/6 - 3.5 miles - decided to cut it short a bit so I could go home and get Macy for a walk
    5/7 - 4.5 miles
    5/8 - 4.6 miles
5/9 - 2.4 miles - just a quick run to get my legs moving
5/10 - 3.5 miles of Mother's Day fun with Skip way hot at 85 degrees
5/11 - active rest day walked the Macy 3 miles
    5/12 - 6.5 miles
5/13 - rest day - well I walked 3 miles with Macy and cut the yard so my feet were moving LOL
    5/14 - 5.5 miles
    5/15 - 5.3 miles
    5/16 - 3.2 miles - 5K and a little extra with warm up
5/17 - 6.4 miles with Skip nice easy miles
5/18 - rest day walked Macy a few miles but that's it, took Skip to breakfast in the morning for her birthday and went to the track banquet last night
    5/19 - 6.2 miles
    5/20 - 5.3 miles
5/21 - 4.4 miles - I've been running this route pretty consistent since Nov 2014 and this was the fastest I ran it, 43:59
    5/22 - 3.4 miles
5/23 - 3.5 miles - easy run with Skip before our 10K on Monday
    5/24 - rest day - walked Macy 3 miles
5/25 - 6.2 miles 10K cotton row run - tough course, it wanted to make me cry LOL No PR for me 1:03.03 was the chip time. Skip finished 57:49 chip time a PR for her though she wasn't thrilled with it. The "hill" was all everyone promised it was be I did a speed walk up it and wanted to die never mind run  Race was delayed an hour because a tree fell on the course 30 mins before start time. I'm checking mapmyrun and it looks like the hill goes up 100 feet in less than a quarter mile. But before that "hill" it uphill for over a mile.
    5/26 - 4.6 recovery miles - ouch
5/27 - 3.5 miles decided to cut it a bit short - needed to get to work my VACATION starts at noon today!
    5/28 - 3.5 miles
    5/29 - 8.25 miles
    5/30 - 4.8 miles

114.8 out of 120 miles completed - doubt I'll make goal, but I'm happy to be back at the century mark

On Allen's computer so my ticker won't work - 5.2 miles to go

@shanaber I see our mileage neck and neck is right. I wanted to run more this morning but I promised Allen's mom I'd be back for breakfast at 7:00, I was 5 mins late  oops

I'm sorry I'm not keeping up on the thread. I'll catch up tonight when we get to the beach. Everyone meeting and passing their goal - great job!!! I'm thisclose LOL

@ddmom0811 how was the beach 5K?

Steamy trail run last night in the 1000% humidity. I always forget just how awful it gets here in the summer, and then summer rolls around...
Anyway, fun 6.3 miles with strides, puts me at 47.something for the month.
Another run is scheduled for today but I woke up with the strangest hip pain (not my normal knee, shin, back or foot pain, smh) so we'll see if it works itself out this morning.

    @LoneWolfRunner nice! I'm jealous..

@SBRRepeat hip pain for me is usually IT band or medial glute. Stretching works really well, maybe foam roller or tennis ball, or massager. I have to keep after mine, its manageable though. Good luck.

Edit- that's if it's the outside hip.. Front could be illiopsoas (hip flexor)... I'd rest/ice that one..

@Elise4270 Thanks! That's great advice. I spent about an hour with the foam roller and lacrosse ball on Thursday, working out basically my entire lower body, but I think this is different, the joint itself is doing this charming pop and click combination. I did have hip flexor issues last fall. Probably a hyper extended tendon or something. I'm hopelessly unbalanced thanks to a few old equestrian injuries, so it's like as soon as I get one muscle group or joint balanced and working properly, another one goes to crap.
Happens whether I run or not, really, I'm just hyper aware of it now, instead of being in generalized pain all the time...

I've given up on posting, because sometimes it's just the little things... I had to switch to IE from FireFox and I can't figure out how to get to my ticker to update it from here.

Today's 5 miles are done, and I've got 12 miles for tomorrow, and I complete my goal of 120 miles at the 11 mile mark. :) Yay!

Omg, sounds like we have a lot in common. One after another for me too. I have some muscle imbalance issues. My hips do the snaping thing when I'm sitting and extend and bring my knees up. My PT said "just don't keep doing that, its a tendon and youll aggravate it" .

I was so irritated by my 5k yesterday I went out again today for a shorter and much better run. I needed to convince myself it was the heat and the humidity that made it suck not my fitness level. Only did 2 miles, but could have continued and time was right were I wanted to be.

Great job! If you click on your ticker on one of the other posts you can then edit it (if you remember the password). Assuming it's from the tickerfactory.

    May 29 - rest
    May 30 - 5K on the beach

It was fun this morning on the beach but so darn hot!!! It started at 9am, 8 would have made it a little better. Daughter got 2nd place in her age group. I got 7th in mine. Thought it was 6th but then they sent an email later and it was down to 7th. We had to run in wet socks/shoes because we were standing with our back to the Ocean (to avoid the sun) and all of a sudden this wave came and drenched our feet - this was about 5 minutes before. We had fun but were wiped out from the heat. Sounds so wimpy to run 30 minutes and be exhausted.

Won't hit goal because biking tomorrow, so bring it on June!

@ddmom0811 super! I need a trading buddy! My husband will also run it.

He did it last year in 2:15:11 and I swear he ran a dozen times before the race, not real training. I think he's learned his lesson with this last 5k. Didn't train, last minute tried to run like it was the HM and suffered an injury. I really really really want to beat his time. But even if I don't, I'll run a stonger race.

@kimlight2 the heat will kill your pace. I'm running 13-14 training pace in the heat on trails. Today was 62°f when I set out. I killed the longest fastest run yet, of the season. I'm sure it's the temps. I changed my goal pace in this heat to less than 14. When it's cold, I'll adjust to a faster time. So absolutely cut yourself some slack.

Knocked out a 8.77m run, sub 12 pace (few stops for: 2 water,1 fuel, 1 mp3, 2 texts, and 3 pp stops that I could not go at... Must be dehydrated? So my pace could have been better.

71.76/75. I just may be able to get the rest tomorrow!

73.53 total km for May. Ran 10.75 k this morning. Had to walk a few k of it, due to my tummy. First 5k was good, second 5k I really slowed down.

5/30- 6.0m Trail, making my total for the month 60.2 miles. (I know I will not be able to fun tomorrow.) My goal for May was 45m.

I typically just go out to run for fun and to shut my mind down, so I didn't know what I could do if I attempted to actually apply myself. This was the first time I set a goal with the intention to meet it, and I really enjoyed seeing how every little and big run added up. I am excited to see what June brings!

Thanks @Elise4270! Got my socks ordered and a tank top too :) the socks are sold out in many of the more popular colors but if you aren't picky it is a great deal!

@shanaber yes, your right. I ordered 7 pair, some with a little longer tops, hoping that it'll keep rocks and dirt out of my shoes. I only have 2 pair of the short ones. I am not picky. I love these socks!

Omg, sounds like we have a lot in common. One after another for me too. I have some muscle imbalance issues. My hips do the snaping thing when I'm sitting and extend and bring my knees up. My PT said "just don't keep doing that, its a tendon and youll aggravate it" .

Wow, solid advice from the PT lol. Sounds like my ortho- he just said "I don't know, seems like you're managing the pain okay. Just be careful" after I explained that the excruciating pain and frequent knee dislocations were making it hard for me to train. Wouldn't even order an MRI. That's what I get for expecting empathy from a surgeon

I did get in another three-ish miles running and walking with my momma last night. She and the dog took a break at the river while I did some extra laps on the access roads. I've been trying to talk both of my parents into doing a C25K program so we can do a charity run together in the fall, I may almost have mom convinced. Been a bit obnoxious about it, really- strategically left the book Older, Faster, Stronger on their coffee table last week.

Anyway, TLDR- adding 2.9 miles, put me at 50.3 this month.

Congratulations to all for running hard this month! You've all been an encouragement to me. Yesterday I was to run 11 miles per my training plan, only made 6.63 miles. Praise the LORD, I did it today! Glory to God!
