The best way I would say is using a heart monitor but if that's not an option I would think circuit training might be the best thing to log it under and see what it comes up with that way.0

I am not sure how to "perfectly" calculate the calories on the 30 Minute PF Workout, except if you track HR, etc., as said above. However, I created two workouts--30 Minute Workout (Cardio) and 30 Minute Workout (Strength)--just to tell me as a record what I've done for MFP purposes. I put the calories in the Cardio basically as if they were circuit training as has been said above. For me, I hop on the eliptical about 2-3 minutes after the circuit and my heart rate starts quite high (above "fat burn" level even and into "cardio" level).
I love this 30 minute workout. To me it is one of the BEST features of Planet Fitness. What I don't like is the many people, some of whom have posted in this thread, using it for other purposes, skipping about, lifting on these machines, when others are trying to do the CARDIO workout that needs one by one in sequence. The machines in the circuit room are also elsewhere in the gym, just saying...
I'm doing this M-W-F from now on. My Weekend treat, generally, is to not have to do this ;-). I've done it twice so far, first with the trainer. It is a beast...but it's an ALL AROUND workout, which I love. I think if you are looking for long-term success and for general health this thing is EPIC. Thank you PF and MFP's community. I may have missed it but I did not see anyone mention that each person lifts different weights and during the time the green light is on they do different amounts also; for example I might be lifting 40 LBS 35 times and you might be lifting 50 LBS 20 times, so I have no way of determining the amount of calories burned and it is so frustrating me as it is all of you.0

I did the circuit with my Polar Ft4 heart rate monitor yesterday. It said I burned 274 calories at 5'4" and 124 pounds. I worked fast/hard on the steppers doing mostly running steps, I did quick box jumps twice, and regular squats (not on the stepper) one round.0

You need an HRM if you really want to measure an accurate calorie count (preferring one with a chest band) because everyone is different. My blue tooth polar strap is fairly cheap and syncs with your phone. Please don't cheap out on one because the off brands are inaccurate. I feel bad and I don't mean to burst anyone's bubble but the machines at planet fitness overestimate my burns by 30% so If it says I burned 500, I really only burned 350 according to my HRM. It can really throw off your weight loss.

The machines definitely do overestimate! It was depressing the first time I wore my monitor. My difference was only by about 30 calories during an hour treadmill workout (so not so extreme), but still a noticeable difference.0

I am curious now and am going to wear my HRM next time I do it. I did it yesterday and based on my heart rate and how I felt I would guess I burned close to 300 calories. I really went hard on the steps though and alternated between stepping, box jump type work, and leg raises.0

I wore my HRM yesterday doing Tabata and I burned 368 calories in 45 minutes. My gym shows your HR on a projector, I was at a pretty high intensity 85-93%. I weigh 150 5'50

Just record it as circuit training under cardio exercises. But the calories you burn really depends on how hard you work. If you work low weights and slow steps you will not burn nearly as many calories as the circuit training option says.
If you are wearing a heart rate monitor, understand that if you really work your muscles hard your heart rate and metabolism will be elevated much longer after the workout than if you were just doing cardio. Give it enough time to see longer term results. Do not get discouraged at doing this circuit just because the numbers on your HRM don't add up.
There can be a huge difference in calorie usage just based upon body size. Big guys like me burn a lot more calories. And do the steps in between. That is the point of this workout. It gives you a combo of cardio and weight training. Do not do it every day. Skip at least a day between. The older you are, the more days you should skip. I am 52 and have lifted most of my adult life. I only do this workout every third day. I do cardio in between. But I work the weights as heavy as I possibly can.0 -
You can really push yourself on the step by doing intense stepping exercises, or you can simply step at a fairly slow pace, or anything in between. I think it's too variable to easily give a number.0

If it's a combination of cardio & strength training the "catch all" is circuit training. This is still a total guess, but at least you are getting something specific to your size & gender. A HRM gives a better estimate for steady state cardio....so it's not super helpful here. Strength training is just really hard to measure.0 -
Thank you for this post! I do the YouFit express circuit religiously every other day. I go to the step station in between every machine for the steps and I make it really hard so that I get my blood pumping. I don't step as much as I'm jumping over the step. I am definitely sweating at the end of the circuit. I've been estimating 200 calories burned doing this, but maybe it' s a little more.
It's weird. In the year that I've been going to Youtfit I have never seen anyone do the complete circuit except for myself. I'm the only person who ever uses it.0 -
Seems like it would depend on how hard and what you do. I belong there and do it but I think daily it varies for everyone.0
