People use starvation mode as an excuse as to why they are not losing weight. So, for all the ordinary dieters you know, it is a myth.
As to people who are emaciated and have lost a dangerous amount of muscle and fat, such as those in third world countries, starvation is very real. There are lots of starving people out there.0 -
Of course it is real, haven't you people seen the snickers commercials ? Marsha Marsha Marsha !0

Yes, it's real.
No, it's not what most people think it is, and no, you're not in it just because you're eating less.
Read this:

Read it again.
Your body needs energy (calories) to run.
It will get those however it can.
It prefers to burn carbs (glucose, then glycogen).
Then it prefers to burn fat.
Yes, those can happen more or less at the same time.
As a distant third, it will burn muscle. That's an inefficient conversion, plus it's a Hail Mary to try to live
long enough to find food before you
a - can't move
and
b - can't breathe or pump blood
THAT is starvation mode. (Along with adaptive thermogenesis, where your metabolism does slow when you're
actually starving, and doesn't return to normal for a long time, if at all.)0
