@erinhfahey & @bugaboo4uhg - One step at a time is the only way to do it. Some tips: at the top of the page you will see a bell, a star, and a sun. Click on the star and it favorites this thread for you. When you go to the community page, look for the bell, star and sun at the top. The bell will tell you if someone mentioned you in a thread and you can click on that to go directly to the comment. The star will show you all the threads you favorite, and clicking on the link will take you to the last thread post you read.
My name is Tracy. The key for me was to log every day, everything I ate. I set realistic goals, and tried to increase my activity level a little bit each week. I joined this thread in 2011(ish) but didn't stick with it (a little thing called breast cancer got in the way), but I started back again on Jan 23rd 2015 and have logged every day since then. I've lost 32 lbs so far, and hope to make 40 by my birthday at the end of July (my 55th). I live in TX and have a husband, a son, a dog and cat, and 2 grandchildren.
Post often, tell us a bit about yourself, and you will find a lot of support, advise, commiseration, and positive attitude here.
@ushkii - Proud of you!
@cblue315 - boot camp sounds like a lot of fun.
AFM - I made a personal best on exercise calories today, woot!0 -
Hi! I am a 30 year old mom of 2 and I have 132lbs to lose. I just started the state of slim program with my barbaric specialist. Wish me luck!!!0

Good morning everyone.
Happy Fresh Veggies Day
Sate When Celebrated : Always June 16th
Today is Fresh Veggies Day. Take a vow to eat healthy today (and everyday), with fresh veggies for every meal, and for snack, too. Better still, be a vegetarian for a day. Your body will like it.
Fresh vegetables are tasty, far better tasting than canned or frozen vegetables. They are also healthy and highly nutritious. This makes it easy to add fresh vegetables to the menu at every meal, and for snacking. This time of year, there are plenty of fresh vegetables at your local grocery store, or in your backyard vegetable garden.
So relish Fresh Veggies Day with a bountiful supply of fresh picked veggies.

@claywalton That is so cool, I am wishing you luck on this C25K adventure.
@erinhfahey , @bugaboo4uhg & @chellebean1985 Welcome and keep coming back you are in a good place.
Goals: Get back in the plan of eating well and gong to really try to do my PT at home. My L calf has not acted up this week or while I was on my mini vacation. I am thankful for that.
We had a great time. spent on night at a casino (cheap hotel) we signed up for the player card and got 10 dollar free play. so that was out excitement. There was also a live band playing outside that we could hear in the balcony. So I sat out there for a while and watch people fumble around the parking lot. We really did not have a lot of time to do much else.
I am thinking I will really have to have a couple good days before my Friday weight if I want to maintain or report a lost. I am really just hoping for another no gain week. The weekend was really bad food wise. As I said I was discouraged with the no loss. How is it so easy to creep up but so much work, conscious effort to loose some weight? I guess it is just my habit of eating. Ok off the pity pot and going to fill my water bottle.0 -
Thank you for everyone's support. I know that in the big picture gaining 3 pounds isn't the end of the world. I think for me because I had been consistently losing every single week since Halloween it was something I wasn't prepared for. I also was very aware that it was due to my behaviors which is what scared me so much. 3 pounds gain can quickly turn into much more. I am feeling on track now. Tomorrow night I am heading out of town for a few nights for a BBQ and Brews festival. Not the healthiest! I have packed my gym clothes and intend to hit the hotel gym every morning I am gone to help keep myself on track!0

Tuesday Goals: To make it through this week without going to bed after midnight. I know that proper sleep habits help with weight loss but it has been something I’ve been bad at most of my life. Something for me to focus on.
@Karen…luckily cake isn’t my favorite thing, so usually a slice every 2-3 cakes is enough. Good thing I don’t make anything out of chips.
@Lori…I hate lunges, but I was surprised when I had my trainer that I could do jump lunges pretty well. Although I’m not sure I could pick up a playing card from the floor – good job!
AFM…I’m leading the KidVid Cinema at VBS this week and it’s always a bit scary to ask 4-11 year olds to share ways God has provided, comforted or healed (so far). One little boy lost his dad (a church member) about a year and a half ago to a drunk driver. He was just 7 at the time. He shared that while he lost his dad, and he’s sad, God has provided his Mom with a boyfriend and a good guy (GREAT share). After that a little boy raised his hand and he announced that 2 years ago his dad cheated on his mom and now she has a new boyfriend.
And then yesterday, it was about how God has the power to heal our broken hearts and our wounds. It was an okay discussion but the youngest group had a hard time getting it as it was a bit deep in my opinion for little kids (God will lead you through…whether it is healing a body from sickness or helping heal our hearts in the case of death). I put the spin on it that while God watches/cares for the entire world; he individually cares for each one of us. Twice a little 4 year old chimed up…he loves over a billion people and I can’t count that high.
We’ll see what stories they come up with tonight as we talk about the power of forgiveness. We’re supposed to ask the question if we need to forgive others and if we ever need forgiveness – I’m sure there will be some good ones tonight.
I try to spend the entire evening on my feet, but I have a group the entire time so I can’t pace the hallways like I originally thought I could. But I do make sure to get my water in while talking with them.

@tracy (tlh)-- Oh my goodness! I LOL'd at your VBS story. And I'm at starbucks, so the other customers probably think I'm a little looney.
@jennbo-- enjoy the Brews and BBQ--it sounds like it will be fun.
@ushkii-- I also need to make sure I'm doing my PT for my shoulder regularly. It's not hard, and I don't even mind doing it, I just forget. So did you win the jackpot with your $10?
@tom-- your post today reminded me that it's Farmers Market season again--yay!!
@clay-- as lori said, don't feel like you have to finish the program in 9 weeks. Do it at your own pace--push yourself, but don't be afraid to repeat days, or even weeks, if you need to. Also, I don't know if this will make you feel better or worse, but I've been running for 4 years and it's never "easy." Some runs are better than others, but it's always work.
AFM--DH and I had fun watching the Hawks win the Stanley Cup last night. Very exciting--especially since they won it at home. Afterward, lots of people were blowing off fireworks, so poor gunner was cowering in the bathroom. I tried to explain that it wasn't scary and people were just celebrating. Unfortunately, he didn't seem to understand the concept of "happy" fireworks. Independence Day should be a real treat.
Tuesday Goals:
Well one goal was to get back to the gym--mission accomplished. I also ran a few errands this afternoon. Two non-health related goals I have for this week are to clean my fishtank and scrub my bathroom floor so I can seal the tile grout. Yes, I'm living the dream.
June Challenge:
Nutrition = At or over 90 grams of protein 25/30 days -- 9/25
Exercise = run 10 x minimum this month including at least one 8k.
2/10 runs; x/1 8ks
Run another 8k (Thanksgiving 8k = 56:49, NYE 8k = 57:47, 1/25 = 55:41; 2/28=55:15, 3/29 = 59:15; 5/9 = 59:16)
Exercise Goals:
Sun--walk gunner DONE + yard work DONE
Mon--walk gunner DONE
Tues--walk gunner DONE + gym DONE
Wed--walk gunner
Thurs--walk gunner+ gym or run outside
Fri--walk gunner
Sat--walk gunner + gym or run outside

Some tips: at the top of the page you will see a bell, a star, and a sun. Click on the star and it favorites this thread for you. When you go to the community page, look for the bell, star and sun at the top. The bell will tell you if someone mentioned you in a thread and you can click on that to go directly to the comment. The star will show you all the threads you favorite, and clicking on the link will take you to the last thread post you read.
Just a bit of clarification on that star to bookmark the thread you want to follow ... it is the star next to the thread name and not the one at the very top of the page, where the three symbols are located next to one another.
When you click on the star in the group of 'bell, star, sun' at the top of the page, it will show you the threads you have bookmarked. How ever to bookmark a thread, you need to click the star that is on the same line as the thread name. This will turn the star's color from blank to golden yellow ... and your thread will be bookmarked.

Good morning Peeps!
Just a few mins to check in. Weigh in this wek as up a pound. Not sure why. But will keep to my goals anyway.
Fitness is going well.
Business is unbelieveably good. I am more than double my normal montly sales. I may have enough money to taka a vacation. That is if I ever get some time to myself.
Son started rehab and so far so good. He is in for the next 15 weeks.
On the 28th of this month a group of us are doing a mud run. (not sure if I mentioned it here) In honor of my 55th birthday. Let me knowif you would like to join us. It is Pirate themed and will be a great time.
@skinnyjeanzbound - So glad the Stanley Cup is coming your way!
@tlh0407 - Tracy, the VBS stories are wonderful, brings back so many for me when my kids were small.
@jennbo83 - So very frustrating when you get that first gain. Sad to say there will be more in your future. One of this week's quotes for me: "Obstacles are what you see when you take your eyes off the goal."
Love to all,

Good morning everyone.
Happy Eat Your Vegetables Day
Date when held : Always June 17th
Strategically created in the middle of National Fresh Fruit and Vegetables Month, this day is the perfect opportunity to re-introduce a healthy portion of vegetables into your diet. No doubt about it, Eat Your Vegetables Day was created to promote a more healthy diet.......for life!
On this day, you are encouraged to eat vegetables for every meal, and for a snack. Better still, try to be a vegetarian....for the day. Short of that, any additional vegetables at meal time today will honor the event, as well as make you a little healthier.
We encourage parents to let the kids help with dinner, preparing the salad and vegetables. Along the way, you tell your kids a little about the importance of vegetables for a long and healthy life.

@skinnyjeanzbound Yup I 'think' I am too busy to fit in time to do PT, I know it will help if I do it but at the end of the day it just does not seem to come to mind.
@jennbo83 I am sure I am heading for a gain this week but going to keep to the program and log food honestly. It is my choice to eat in a way to loose or not.
@Lauriek70 Hope your HA is better!
@NK1112 Thanks for the clarification, I use the star in the upper right to get back to this group.
@Morgori I would like to try to be a vegetarian if even just for a day but one of my favorite saying is; "If God had wanted us to be vegetarian, then why did he make cows out of meat?"
Last night was movie night, 5 dollar Tuesday. went to Jurassic World, much better then I remember any of the old ones. Had my sm popcorn so I was happy. Went to Five Guys Burger and got a bunless cheese burger but they did it wrong and when I asked about it they made me another, so I HAD to eat that too! We shared a sm fries which is a little pile of fires. It did put me over but I logged it and going to moving on.
I put a timer on my garden to water it and it is now this past week really growing. I am excited.
My calf is slowly getting better. It does not feel so tight or like it is going to pull again. I hope that it keep getting better. someday I will try to go for a walk.0 -

@niki-- great article! Thanks for sharing the link. Glad your scale was wrong.
@ushkii-- I remembered to do my PT tonight because of your post. Did you do yours today? I'm really excited about Jurassic World. Jurassic Park (the first one) was one of my favorite movies. Didn't care for the two sequels, but critics are saying this one is much better.
@lori-- It's good to hear that business is booming for you.
@laurie-- Happy last-day-with-students tomorrow!
Wednesday Wish:
I wish I didn't need to spend so much money today. This morning I had 2 fillings removed and refilled, and this afternoon we took gunner for his annual check up. Between the dentist and the vet, it cost almost $700. Sure hoping that whatever the treatment plan is for my shoulder, that my insurance covers it.

@Tracy (tlh) I admit to using this event as an excuse to get things done that should have been done sooner. Now I'm really glad we got so much done. We had scheduled the cultural hall at the church for the day. This evening I found out that there is a funeral scheduled for 3 pm followed by a family dinner. Since it is church policy that a funeral trumps anything else, we are making some fast changes in our plans. We will have it in our backyard. Friday will be yard cleaning day. Our yard is large and shady with a good lawn, but not particularly beautiful nor elegantly landscaped, but it will be fine.
@Niki good article. Thanks for sharing.
Life never ceases to be exciting around here (see note to Tracy). I have all of the major cleaning done. We shampooed the living room carpet today. Tomorrow is mopping the kitchen floor and cleaning the bathrooms. Then Friday we'll clean the yard. I'm afraid I'm just treading water as far as my food is concerned. I'm trying to make good choices, but they aren't all the best. This will all be over in a few days.
DH has been extremely tired for several months, no stamina at all. Yesterday he had a checkup with the cardiologist. His pulse was only 45. The dr said, "You must be exhausted." They took him off one of his meds. If that doesn't work he'll have to have a pacemaker.

Happy National Splurge Day
Date When Celebrated : Always June 18th
It's National Splurge Day, oh Yeah!
There are certain dates on the calendar that you look forward to with great excitement. You mark the date and wait in eager anticipation. For me, National Splurge Day is one of those very special days.
National Splurge Day is a day to treat yourself excessively, to anything you want. And, to excess if you desire. Isn't that a great thing? Maybe, you're on a diet, and that special dessert is too many calories. Maybe, you want to buy a steak, and the budget is a little tight. Toss out the reservations, and go for it today.
Celebrate this day to the fullest degree. Treat yourself to whatever you want and to excess . For, this is a day to splurge. Do so without worry or concern...until tomorrow.
Give thanks for what you are now, and keep fighting for what you want to be tomorrow. ~Fernanda Miramontes-Landeros

Good Evening Peeps,
Had a good session with the counselor today. I will be working on values and goals for the next few sessions.
Son had a hearing today. It is a bit frustrating as the District Attorney has still not filed the charges for the last DUI. Son has also startd treatment this week. He seems to be in a good mood so I hope this means he is doing well. Next week is family night so I want to go.
Hubby went into panic mode this morning and for the first time in recent memory I chose not to go there with him. I am very proud of myself for that.
Work is still very stressful. Deposits came in for two more contracts and I got an email today from another who is mailing in a check. Lots of work and I am so very excited but aprehensive. Sister's negativity is getting difficult, but I think the counseling will help me work on that relationship also.
Took a rest day today, I will do the trainer workout tomorrow. Next week I go back to race training. I now know I am really a group exercixe type. I am not fond of the solo bike/run workouts. But if I want the results I have to do the work. My next tri is 3 weeks away.
@Morgori - My next splurge will be when I lose the next two pounds, then I will be in the overweight BMI.
@grandmakaye44 - Some of my fondest memories are yard parties when I was young. Drinking soda from the 10 oz bottles and so much new food. I wish I could drop by.
@Annr - A belated Happy Birthday to you!
@RobinsEgg - Miss you! Hope you come back soon.
Love to all,
Lori

Thanks for the bookmark tip @Kah676. Now I can get back to this much easier. I was having difficulty trying to find it again. So far i have gotten in my 5500 minimum steps plus 20 minutes activity moderate to intense and 2.5 miles minimum daily. Now my Achilles tendon with a bone spur is giving me problems. My podiatrist had given me methylprednisolone to take for when I was in New Orleans for a teacher's conference. It worked well. I was able to walk more than 5 miles a day without pain. I'm using a night splint, but after walking it is sore. I don't want to do more damage to it. Anyone have experience with this?0

Hello. New here. Decided that I truly want to lose this weight and willing to do what it takes!! Started logging my foods and it really makes me stop and pay attention!! I'm tired of being embarrassed by my size, sweating a lot and having joint pain. Ready to start this journey0
-
thank you cblue315 I am blessed by all your warm wishes!
Today I gave blood, (I have A Neg so they are always calling me). I have a scar on my right arm from giving platelets in CA, and I usually have to tell them to just be brave and stick under the scaring. This lady wanted to do the middle part of my right arm, because she felt a vein. Well, it wasn't to be, and so she tried the right arm. Thank goodness she got it. I was a blue baby when I was born so I try to give every 8 weeks. Gave at 3pm so this afternoon I was konked out until about 5pm. Giving blood isn't always easy, but its one thing I can do that is like running a marathon. It makes me feel like a super woman, and if you ever have a chance to do it, DO. Its 30 minutes out of your daily routine.
night night all....

@pmary665~Achilles tendon injuries are the bane of my existence. I’ve torn my left twice, most recently in January which put me in a boot for 6 weeks, was out for about a month and then put back in—this time with the repeat tear (at the insertion point) it took a piece of bone with it (avulsion fracture). I follow-up with the ortho next week, I feel like I’m actually making progress though this time (probably because my ortho benched me from all activity). I hope this buys me some time at least; he really wants to surgically repair everything and lengthen my Achilles, but I have a cruise coming up in less than two months so need to postpone until late Fall. The best thing you can do for yourself, especially after exercising, is ice the area. Ice massage works best—I put Styrofoam cups filled with about an inch of water in the freezer, and then remove the top half of the cup and place ice directly on skin and massage the area(s) for 8-10 minute increments. It is very cold but it works. Stretch often.
Welcome @TMudong and any other newlings that have stopped by~The best first step you can make is to not make any changes but just log your meals, its eye-opening. Once you do that it’s easy to start making changes, but just change one thing until it becomes a habit then work on something else.
@Annr (Becca)~I get a lot of calls to donate blood too, you do burn calories so it’s like a workout but with better benefits by helping your community. Good for you.
AFM~Really not much to report, work has been busy and I'm trying to get some things organized and attempt some deep cleaning in my house before traveling to my sisters for July 4th weekend (and my parents anniversary celebration ). I made some dietary changes a couple of weeks ago--I'm not diabetic but started eating a low glycemic diet, its really made a difference. Its curbed a lot of cravings, has made a difference in the way I feel and my energy is up--this tells me I'm really sensitive to carbs (kind of knew that already) but its a sustainable way of eating (for me). I am starting to see changes on the scale, its slower than I'd like but as long as its a downward trend I'm happy.

Hi all,
This is an open invitation to participate in the MOBO MOTO June Mini Challenge, June 20-29. MOBO MOTO is a challenge group for the morbidly obese. It's an open group, so to join, just search and click.
For the challenge, choose your goal(s), name your reward, then give it your best ten-day effort! My goals are to log food every day, exercise every day, and follow a meal plan. My reward is $100 to spend at a local spa. I'm giving myself $1 for each percentage point, so if I complete my goals at 60%, I still get a reward of $60. I'm not perfect--but I make progress!
Please join in if you like a motivating, challenging type of group, or message me if you have questions!

Good morning everyone.
I also give blood, I think I have 2 more times to give until I reach 6 gallons given.
Happy World Sauntering Day!
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
"World Sauntering Day" is celebrated on the 19th day of June every year. The purpose is to remind us to take it easy, smell the roses, to slow down and enjoy life as opposed to rushing through it. It is also sometimes referred to as International Sauntering Day
History
The exact year of its origin is 1979, and it is believed to have begun at Grand Hotel (Mackinac Island) in Michigan. The Grand Hotel has the world's longest porch at 660 feet in length. The holiday was created by W.T. Rabe in response to the growing popularity of jogging. The idea behind the day was to encourage people to slow down and appreciate the world around them.
This day, June 19 has been used as an opportunity to uplift people (one example is the Totally Unique Thoughts group and free Notes from the Universe http://www.tut.com/) and remind us of the well-being which is around us everywhere if we will choose to look for it, focus on it, and let it grow in our hearts and in our lives.
Also in some places, World Sauntering Day is celebrated on the 28th of August but the official date will always be June 19.
Sauntering
Sauntering is a verb describing a style of walking; it is not a sashay, prance, trot, or lollygag. It is simply to walk slowly, preferably with a joyful disposition. Sauntering has been spoken of most notably by many of the naturalist writers in history including Henry David Thoreau and John Burroughs. See saunter

Thanks @kah68 for the information, I will try icing it to see if that helps. With the night splint, it doesn't hurt when I first begin moving about in the morning, but it hurts later after I have been still for a while and begin walking. I am still using the gel the doctor gave and now will be adding icing for soreness. Thanks0

@pmary--My only advice is to make sure you are wearing the right shoes. I had tendonitis in my Achilles when I was a teenager and learned at that time that I really need to wear shoes with good arch support. I was reminded of this a few years back with a flare up of plantars faciitis. Now whenever I spend too many days in unsupportive shoes, both my arches and my Achilles start aching.
@tom-- I remember getting my 5 gallon pin, butthat was quite a few years ago. I think I must be getting close to 10 gallons.
@kelley-- I'm also sensitive to carbs--just over the past few days I've done so much better by avoiding them, especially early in the day. If I start with carbs, I just want to eat, eat, eat all day. Saving them for the evening makes a bog difference in my overall numbers. I hope you can put off the surgery until after your trip.
@becca-- Happy birthday!! Sorry I missed it. I've also given blood regularly since I was in my 20s. Then, last year when I returned from the DR, they deferred me for a year. I can't wait until July 2nd which is when I'm eligible again. I am type O+ so a universal donor. Also, Kelley is right about burning calories. According to mayoclinic.com we about 650 calories in the 48 hours following donation. Our bodies use those calories to replace the fluids. When I donate, I always log 325 exercise calories on the day of, and the day after, donating.
@kaye-- I'm sure your party will be wonderful no matter where it's held. Can't wait to hear all about it.
@lori-- wow, can't believe your next tri is only 3 weeks away. Go you!
I missed Thursday Truth yesterday, so here it is:
I had my ortho appt. yesterday and he said the tear in my labrium is not what's causing the mobility issues, so he doesn't think surgery will help. Instead, he gave me another cortisone shot to break up the scar tissue that causing my shoulder to freeze and wants me to do 6 more weeks of "aggressive" physical therapy before seeing him again. My truth is that I'm glad I don't need surgery, but am not looking forward to the work I'm going to have to put in to get this thing fixed.
Friday Fitness:
I added some leg and core work back into my workout the other day, and my abs are feeling it. Today, I will go back to the gym and do it again.
June Challenge:
Nutrition = At or over 90 grams of protein 25/30 days -- 10/25
Exercise = run 10 x minimum this month including at least one 8k.
2/10 runs; x/1 8ks

Exercise Goals:
Sun--walk gunner DONE + yard work DONE
Mon--walk gunner DONE
Tues--walk gunner DONE + gym DONE
Wed--walk gunner DONE
Thurs--rest day
Fri--walk gunner + gym
Sat--walk gunner + gym or run outside

@Cuble315 Wow you have a full plate! It is good you did not crumble and go down that pitty pot/stressed out road. Good for you.
@morgori My splurge day was late weekend, which cost me on the scale. Up 6 lbs. but I think that is due to a bunch of salty peanuts at the ball game last night. We will see.
@TMudong Welcome, logging your food honestly will really open your eyes to food/snacks that are SO bad for you it will amaze you. Get a food scale for another eye opener.
AFM: I am doing ok, like I said my scale was up but I really did expect some not that much. It is hard to keep your nose to the grind stone to lose 1-2 lbs. and how easy they just jump back on. Sad. Well I know it is just a minor setback and it might be due to handfuls of salty peanuts. Last night we went to the ball park to watch my son and his girlfriend’s team win. They are in a co-ed league and really kick some butt last night.
My garden is growing should have tomatoes soon and cucumbers. Only one zucchini plant this year as we cannot keep up with the three we had last year. We are trying some spaghetti squash too since we found a great recipe for them. Of course jalapeno and green pepper.
No pulled calf again this week, so happy. I still did not do my PT at home yet this week. CRAP. I really need to just set a reminder in my phone, but it seems at the end of the day it is so hard to get up and do one more thing.

@skinnyjeanzbound- Hey who you calling a butthat ( most just call me asshat or butthead) All the pints I donated when I was back east are not on my records for United Blood Services here out west, so I'm not sure how many I have given overall. I usually do 3 doubles a year. It even counts as an event in the Vegas corporate challenge.
