HELP. Not losing weight.

I was doing great and on track to reaching my goal weight when my world came to a stop. They thought I had cancer. I had major surgery and couldn't do anything for over a month. During that time a gained back about 20 to 25 pounds. I am getting better and back to excersing and doing my diet. Problem is I am not losing weight. I dropped about 6 pounds and that is it. I work out in the evening so my dinners are larger as I burn a lot of calories. Can someone please help me. I am not sure what is going on. My food diary is open to look at. Thank you

    Over what time frame did you lose 6 lbs? A loss of 6 lbs is not "Not losing weight".

    ETA: It's possible you are overestimating your calorie burns and without seeing your entries, if you are only using measuring cups to enter your food, you could be eating more than you think.

    It sounds like you had no problem weighing foods/losing weight before your surgery, so I think you probably know how to track properly. It is always worth looking at again however, because I know that I tend to get 'lax' on my measuring after a while and I normally see this in my weight loss.

    The stress of the surgery could perhaps be causing this. Are you on any medications after this? Medicine can do weird stuff. When I started antidepressants I gained 20 lbs and it took FOREVER for me to get rid of it, even though I had no problems at all losing weight before that.

    That was how I felt for a long time. I WAS weighing and measuring foods too so I t made me feel like a failure. Truth is, my metabolism was shot so the changes were taking a long time to adjust. Weight lifting, higher water intake (with lemon is even better) and cardio are all important ways to improve your metabolism. I would go months with only 1-2 lbs loss. Now it's almost a pound per week, Weight lifting and lemon water has changed that for me. Weights strengthened my core and boosted my metabolism. Then once i had some muscle mass I started doing more cardio and the pounds are starting to reflect my efforts. When I did weights I did not see the scale change but I saw my body change. That is when I increased the cardio. ;) I hope that helps. Some of us just have a slower metabolism but it is not impossible. Start tracking your sleep.     She didn't add muscle mass while eating at a deficit - regardless of metabolism

    Increasing cardio beyond a couple times a week is not necessary nor particularly recommended

    Tracking sleep isn't going to cause you to gain/lose weight.

    You need to give it more than a couple of weeks. I would say give it another 4 weeks or so and see how it goes.

    Thank you for reminding me. I did take Prednisone about a month and a half ago. I knew about the possibility of weight gain so I was very careful of what I hate and how much. I was on it for about ten days. I am not currently taking anything other Vitamin D as my level is down to 8. These last 6 months have been hell let me tell you. I think I have my system pretty well cleaned out of all the meds but I could be wrong. If I could just correct the fatigue. I am so tired. If anyone has any suggestions on some natural shakes I would appreciate it.

    Your Fitbit burn is TDEE (total daily energy expenditure), the number of calories necessary to maintain your current weight. If you eat at a reasonable deficit from that, you will lose weight.

    The less you have to lose, the more slowly it comes off. That's just the way the human body works. And weight loss is not linear. Some weeks you do everything right but maintain—or even gain. Others you lose a whole lot in a "whoosh."

    I have really low vitamin D and B12, plus Hashimoto's (autoimmune thyroid disease), but I lost the weight & have maintained for a year by trusting my Fitbit and learning to log everything I eat & drink accurately & honestly. Logging is simple, but it ain't easy. Logging works.

    No I didn't add muscle mass- but I did strengthen the muscles that I had.

    Lemon water has Countless benifits including metabolism boost (a small one is better than none) but notice I said increase water and lemon was a bonus....

    And Your body needs rest. Not getting enough will slow progress. There are many benifits to a good night sleep.
    Perhaps You would attract more bees with honey. Damn me for mis speaking. ;)

    I do drink at least 90 ounces of water a day and don't sleep all that great due to the discomfort still. I use my fitbit and it does track my sleep. I also use lemon in my water but only for taste when the water tastes nasty. I will give it a few more weeks to see what happens. I guess I am worried because I am not losing like I was before everything happened. I had started my journey back in Aug and was losing about 10 a month give or take. That was fine with me even 8 was okay. I was working out and even running. I know that it will take time especially since I am still healing but I have been working really hard these last couple of weeks with weights and cardio and nothing has changed in about a month sop the frustration kicked in. Thank you to everyone for your help. If nothing else just having people to talk to. I have never used the community before and I must say you all are great!

    I do agree with getting a good night sleep. I think that helps with a lot of things. I have also heard things about lemon but never really thought much about it. I just used it for flavor. I thank you for your advice.

    Losing 6 lbs in a month is great! You have recently been through a lot emotionally and physically, and I'm sure you just want to get rid of the weight so you can get on with your life. But you need to be patient with yourself :). A loss of 1-2 lbs a week is a great rate of weight loss - Just hang in there.

    I appreciate your post - and agree that while ceoverturf meant well, he was a bit blunt, not to mention incorrect on a couple points. The one about getting enough sleep in itself is very true and a lot of people could use reminding on that point. And the lemonwater, I don't know whether or not it's good for metabolism, but it's recommended for people to avoid kidney stones, and it also just tastes good! (And if it tastes good, I think we're all more likely to drink it, which is definitely good!)

    Anyways, thanks for sharing, rebbylicious, and nctorres - you can do it! The people here generally are very supportive, and I for one can say that it's both comforting and motivating knowing one is amongst friends who are going through the same journey!

    I COMPLETELY AGREE WITH YOU! This is not an easy thing and to have people that are encouraging and supportive can make all the difference. I know it really helped me. I went to bed feeling like I could do this and that was because of the people here so THANK YOU ALL!

    Rubbish. When you eat makes no difference whatsoever. All that matters is the total number of calories you eat each day vs calories burned. The end.

    Thank you! I think I might have overreacted a little now that I look back but at the moment I felt like I was not succeeding. Today is a new day and I thank you for helping me through it. :)

    A healthy, sustainable loss is .5 lb. per week for every 25 lbs. you're overweight. And weight loss is not linear. Some weeks you do everything right but maintain—or even gain. Others you lose a whole lot in a "whoosh." So you're probably doing a whole lot better than you think. Be kind to yourself.

    Take photos and measurements, too. They'll show you your progress even when the scale is being a lying liar who lies. And have other metrics—like strength or endurance. Fitbit challenges are great motivation—and fun.

    My apologies i was vague in my statement. Consult your personal trainer/dietician they will advise you to NOT eat after 8pm especially carbs
