Got through my last 6 with a handful of friends at the usual mid-day run. Lots of sun, but very little humidity made for a nice run. Now to finish off my last biking & swimming miles for those challenges... I'll play tomorrow by ear.

    6/2 - 5 miles
    6/3 - 4.5 miles
    6/4 - 5 miles
    6/6 - 0.5 miles
    6/7 - 10 miles
    6/9 - 4.5 miles
    6/10 - 7 miles
    6/11 - 6 miles
    6/12 - 6 miles
    6/14 - 15 miles
    6/15 - 8 miles
    6/16 - 6 miles
    6/17 - 4 miles
    6/18 - 1 mile (pre lifting treadmill)
    6/21 - 6.5 miles (1.5 treadmill + 5 outdoors)
    6/22 - 10 miles
    6/23 - 6 miles
    6/24 - 6 miles
    6/25 - 6 miles (including 8x400s at 6 min/mile pace)
    6/26 - 5 miles
    6/28 - 12 miles
    6/29 - 6 miles

    Total: 140 miles
    Goal: 140 miles
    Done!

I won't be able to make my goal this month. My knees were giving me some issues so I decided to go to the doctor. I'm currently seeing a physical therapist. I have three more weeks to go and I've only been cleared to run 15 minutes once a day. The good thing is the pain is gone. It was my glutes. Who would have thought of that?

@skippygirlsmom - it is like having a virtual running partner! You and @WhatMeRunning may resist but I had my rest day yesterday and had to hustle to get a run in early this morning before my early early meetings (hate being 2 hours behind corporate!).
@Daisy471 - Your trail half sounds like a lovely course! Do you roll out your hips and IT bands? I find it helps.
@7lenny7 - I would ice that knee! I tore the meniscus in my left knee a couple of years ago (not running related) and when it flares up I go back to icing it several times a day like I did during my rehab. I have never had it get to the point of having to take days off for it other than my normal rest days.
@Aresende90 - I second what @7lenny7 says about the prong collars. I used one with Hobbes when he was younger as well and still use it in high excitement situations like going to the dog beach where I know he is going to get excited and want to pull. We also stop a lot in those situations, he doesn't get to move forward until he doesn't pull. It makes him crazy (he whines at me) but eventually realizes if he moves with me he will get there faster.
@karllundy - Great that you can get some running in while on vacation!
@autumnblade75 - The Sports Ortho told me your hips and glutes impact everything below them. So if they are weak, tight or lazy it can result in injury/pain in your quads, hamstrings, knees...etc.. that could very well be part of the reason you have shin pain. Pushing through the pain can result in stress fractures because the calf muscle and tendons are pulling on the bone - that is why it hurts and becomes inflamed and tender.
@tdbernrd - glad you were able to get the cause of your knee pain sorted out!

Yeah, I've heard that, too. I keep meaning to do something about it. If I push MUCH too hard, it does start to hurt when I run, too. I don't even feel close to that point. I think I need a more *real-world* exercise, instead of clamshells. I can do those stupid things all day and not feel them. As bad a rap as those abductor/adductor machines at the gym get, I think they're more useful to me than the clamshells - unfortunately, my husband bought me a treadmill and had me cancel the gym membership because he was sick of me dragging him to the gym. I think that was a mistake.

@shanaber, Thanks for sharing this..I hadn't made the leap from glutes/hips to knees before. That bears looking into.

Intervals outside this morning (ouch). Last run of the month, didn't quite make my target, but not a million miles off :)

@tdbernrd Injuries suck but sometimes you just have to look after yourself and recover - hope the physio helps
@autumnblade75 I have suffered from hip, knee and shin pain in the past and discovered (by the oracle that is Google) that this is down to weak glutes too - paid a bit more attention to strengthening then and found some stretches for hips, which i did daily, the problem just went away pretty quickly!

It's been a while I fell short of my goal. I may have overdone it a lil bit this month in increasing my miles and ended up holding back the last couple weeks and missed an opportunity to place in my AG at a race this past weekend. Here's to July. Thank you everybody! You are all doing great!!

So excited to have made goal and more. I was thinking today that it was 6 months ago almost to the day that it hurt so bad I couldn't run 10 yards and the back surgeon told me I needed surgery and could not run anymore. Thank God I didn't just listen to him and I looked into other options. I was so lucky to have a bunch of local runners step up with great recommendations for a PT that would understand I need to run and recommended Jonathan. I still have pain from time to time, but when I do it's my fault for not doing my exercises like he told me to  Sorry to be going on and on, just a happy girl today.

@stoshew71 this is the first time since I've known you that you haven't made goal. However, you run some wild amount of miles and your speed has increased so much, you should be so proud of yourself. Always a consistent great run, every run.

Congrats to everyone who made goal, passed goal and everyone who got out there and ran 1 or 200 miles, you all ROCK!!!! The heat has been such a huge thing already and it's only June, can't wait to see what July has in store for us.

    Here's one for my girls.

Thanks to a two-week cold even my natural stubbornness couldn't overcome, and a big event I help organize at the end of the month, it's been a tough month for keeping my volume up. Garmin tells me I have 15.3km left to hit my shoulda-been-a-slam-dunk goal and just over 15 hours left to make it happen so at least the easy goal will be reached.

@autumnblade75 I have suffered from hip, knee and shin pain in the past and discovered (by the oracle that is Google) that this is down to weak glutes too - paid a bit more attention to strengthening then and found some stretches for hips, which i did daily, the problem just went away pretty quickly!

I can see that you guys aren't going to let me get away with ignoring this. Ok, ok! It's time to work on the glutes. My "sit bones" aren't comfortable in my chair anymore, anyway. I lost too much padding back there - I think most of it was fat, but it's possible that I'm not even keeping up the muscle I had. I swear if you'd just give me time, the shins would catch up - but I do want a nice backside, too. Glutes I can train. Hips, I can't commit to, yet. They're plenty flexible, I promise. Weak, maybe - but flexible. Will that be enough? Just to commit to training the glutes? Please?

Congratulations to everyone who ran this month whether you made goal or not, you got up off the coach and moved! I hope everyone who is injured feels better soon and we see you over in the July challenge!

@skippygirlsmom - love it! Not sure which I would rather have at the finish line puppy or wine... I guess if he is holding it, it probably wouldn't matter :) Also I am so excited that you have been able to work thru your injury, doing all those exercises and stretches to come back and put in 137 miles! I use as an example all of the time to tell people the goodness of keeping up on the exercises the PT gives you!
@RunTimer - look at you getting in 70+ miles!! Great job!
@Stoshew71 - Don't be too down on yourself, you were working through an injury and still putting in the miles! You'll get back on it in July!!

Has anyone heard from @gabbo34? Just wondering if he is still running or if he is injured. I may just message him the see what is going on.

I managed to finish up the month right just over 140! Did not expect to be that high. Today's run was without the pup. It was too hot and humid, even early in the morning and he was still tired from his agility class last night. It was supposed to be race pace but between strength training last night (instead of tonight) and agility class I was sore and exhausted. The run felt good but I will get my speedwork in on Thursday after I have had a day to rest. I didn't realize just how exhausted I was until I lay down for a few minutes to rest and slept for almost 2 hours. Slept right through a meeting call I was supposed to be on - oops... doesn't appear anyone missed me though.
