i have a smoothie for breakfast consisting of;
Half a banana
Quarter an avocado
small handful mixed berries
quarter cup of yoghurt
teaspoon of flaxseed
teaspoon of spirilina
teaspoon of kale powder
teaspoon of chia seeds
Approx one cup of water
equaling approx 330 calories
Or should i be having say 2 weetbix, or half cup oats/porridge which can equal out to less calories

It doesn't matter much what you have for breakfast since the body just focuses on digesting whatever is consumed. If weight loss is your main goal, then of course it's about total calories and having a calorie deficit.

Im wanting weightloss, the smoothie option easily keeps me in my deficit amount.
I was more wondering which is better health wise? i guess lol0 -
Nutrient dense options offer more value, but if you're reaching your optimal macro/micro nutrients daily, then healthwise it won't really matter.

I’m kind of the opposite.
AngelJordan, just try to reach your macro- and micronutrient goals every day, and you should be fine, like ninerbuff said. The smoothie looks pretty healthy, but those other options would be fine too. Given those options, I’d have oats for breakfast and the smoothie late in the day, but that’s just personal preference.
You could consider whether you would get hungry too early if you went with a lower-calorie breakfast. Or if you aren’t very hungry in the morning, maybe go with the lower-calorie option. Whatever works for you.0 -
It doesn't matter what you eat, so long as you're in a deficit. Personally, I like eating my calories instead of drinking them.0

Bacon
Bacon is better for breakfast0 -

Or nothing... I like nothing
OP, eat what works for you. "health" means lots of things. Work out what is healthy for you!0 -
How do you feel when you have a smoothie vs oats? Does one make you feel more full or satisfied than the other? You'd have to look at your whole day to see what choice is better nutritionally for you.
I would choose the oats over a smoothie because I prefer to chew my breakfast. Drinking smoothies never really makes me feel full.0 -
Personally for breakfast that would not satisfy me. I usually like a good combo of fat, carbs, fiber, and protein. For example I have overnight oats parfait with chai seeds, oats, almond milk, yogurt, pears, and almonds. It also comes down to how satisfied you feel after eating. If those calories spent are going to cause you to eat again in a hour or two maybe it's not the best thing.
And if you want to add oats to your smoothie Blueberry Banana Oatmeal Smoothie looks tasty and you probably don't have to cook the oats! You could adjust it how you make your current breakfast smoothie.0 -
This morning: spam, spam, spam, spam, eggs, and spam.
But normally: whatever I feel like that fits in my calorie goals and keeps me full enough until lunch. Somethign quick to prepare is good, too.
Personally I don't like smoothies because I feel hungry again in a couple hours, but your mileage may vary.0 -
I have an egg, 1 slice of 100% whole wheat toast with 1 tsp oleo, 6 oz of tomato juice, and some kind of fruit (grapefruit, raspberries, strawberries, melon) almost every day. I need more protein to make it to lunch.0

This!
I wouldn't drink a smoothie or eat grains/cereals for breakfast. Not that there's anything wrong with that but... for me, for weight loss and muscle retention it has to be real food (harder to digest vs a drink) made up of protein and veggies!
Oh and hot stuff I put that *kitten* on everything! haha
This morning for example... I had scrambled egg whites with broccoli, tomato, onion, mushroom and ham, a teaspoon of sriracha and it topped out at under 200 calories. However, I'm full and satisfied and this will keep me going until way past noon-time.
To each their own.0 -

Cosigning the bolded.
I do have smoothies for breakfast, but they have 19 grams of protein and 15 grams of fat and keep me full for hours.

better for what?0

Is there any reason you can't have the smoothie on one day and the weetabix on another? If both help keep you full and your diet on track you don't have to choose between them.0
-
Like others have said, it's about how it fits in your overall day and makes you feel.
Of those choices, I'd probably go with the smoothie, as you've included fruit, protein, and even some fat, whereas the others would be low on protein and fat unless you added more to them. I'm not personally a fan of just basically grains for breakfast--it would not be satiating for me. On the other hand, I'm not generally satisfied by drinking my breakfast, so I end up having a vegetable omelet or oats with other foods too (I had oats this morning, but my overall breakfast was over 400 calories, since I ate lots of other things too).
I know drinking a smoothie for breakfast does work for some people, so if you are feeling good and satisfied, that seems great. If you want to alternate, that's great too. There's no inherent virtue to just oats having fewer calories, though.0 -
Mmm bacon. Unfortunately bacon regularly doesn't fit into my $ budget, and Id have to share with OH and DD haha
The smoothie keeps me fill to after midday and i generally have it at 8 830.
Whereas oats leave me hungry after a few hours.
Maybe i will try a few other of the options some of you have said. thanks everyone0 -
I eat oats with berries, shredded coconut, and sliced almonds for breakfast almost every day. Some days it keeps me full, other days I eat a piece of fruit around 11 to hold me over til lunch. I agree what others say. Listen to your body. It will tell you.
I also like the suggestion to not pigeonhole yourself into having the same thing every morning. I do only because its delicious, and the fruit variety changes with the seasons but I always have other things on hand in case I want to mix it up!0 -

Then it seems like a great choice.
No harm in experimenting with other options too, if they sound good.0 -

Ummmmm it's all relative to certain goals their sparky...basically fishing for something a little less vague. Better for me is going to be different than better for you than better for the OP...
Like, if I'm going to go ride 50 miles, a breakfast of bagel and peanut butter is BETTER than eggs and bacon...someone who has diabetes or pre-diabetes is going to have a different better than someone who doesn't have those issues...see...context matters just a little bit...
Man there's just a big run of stupid around here lately...0 -
I have a smoothie very similar to yours every morning. I add a 1/2 cup of cold cooked oats to it to give it some body and get a bit of oats into my diet. I also add a scoop of unflavored protein powder to help get a little more protein. I make a pot of oatmeal on Sunday and use it throughout the week.0

My breakfast is usually a banana and/or V-8 juice and Dannon yogurt. Less than 200 calories. Leaves me more to play around with the rest of the day.0
-
Yugh.
I like my oatmeal and raisins!0
