Anyone having trouble giving up that evening drink?

I've pretty much plateau'd and am maintaining. One thing I'm noticing -- I'm not willing to give up my evening glass of wine (sometimes it's a beer in the summer). I'll even go over a little or not eat as much to have the glass of wine. For instance, tonight I chose not to eat rice with my meal so I could have the wine. Anyone else do this?

Yep but not for a drink. I trimmed calories back all day so I could have 195 grams of cookies and cream frozen yogurt. With a squirt of Hershey's Lite. Totally worth it.0

And nope sometimes i dont..i i go over my calories or dont do it lol

I haven't given up food for it but yes, I enjoy a glass of wine or beer before dinner. I don't have one every night but I told myself when I started on MFP in April that I was only going to have drink on the weekend. I do drink more often than that. I have, however, almost eliminated the little munchie food I would eat with my pre-dinner drink, so I got that going for me! Anyways, I'm losing weight- only 3 pounds from goal- yay!0

Alcohol will affect your plans more than just "subbing out" the rice. There are a lot of articles about it so I just linked the first one that came up.

I always save room for my drinks and I'm losing just fine.0

I save calories for a drink or two, but there are other reasons to keep drinking to a minimum other than weight loss (eg too much is not great for your health). For that reason I try not to drink more than once a week.0

Oh hell yes, especially tonight. My mom had a (thankfully) small stroke last night. She should make a full recovery! I was at the hospital from 3:00 am last night until about 4:00 pm this afternoon. I am having a lovely LARGE 8 oz glass of wine at this minute; dinner will be a head of crispy roasted cauliflower instead of panko crusted chicken. TOTALLY worth it!0

I have a cocktail most evenings before dinner, and usually a glass of wine with dinner, and perhaps more on the weekend. It hasn't stopped me from losing 65 pounds, shaving 2 minutes off my 5K time, and increasing my average cycling speed by 2 mph (on comparable terrain) over the last 2 years. I figure drinks into my overall calorie goal (being honest about how big the drinks are). It doesn't hurt that I average 500 calories burned in exercise each day, and more in the summer, when there's a stronger temptation to sit out on the patio with a pastis or a glass of rosé after a run or ride before I start cooking dinner.0

I generally have room left, so I enjoy a glass of wine with dinner at least two or three nights a week.0

Nope started weight loss and stopped drinking. Except for like Christmas and special occasions.
Used to drink like 6-20 cans of scotch and coke over a weekend, most weekend.
Found alcohol to costly calorie wise, even straight scotch or with coke zero, cause you don't just have one.
So are you not willing to give up your wine or can't give it up?0 -

While I dearly love wine and French bread with pasta, wine and French bread were the first things to go when I got serious about losing weight. On the rare occasions that I do drink, it's on the weekend and I up exercise in order to fit the booze in the calorie budget. If I subbed a food for wine, I'd wake up hungry at 3 AM, which would mess up my whole day.0

I must admit, alcohol is the thing i found more easier to have less of.
Now Pizza, Burgers or Chips (Fries), that's a different story. Lol
I do have a few drinks when out socialising or when me and the other half go for a meal at a Restaurant.....but this is maybe a once or twice a month thing.
As others have said, maybe add in some more exercise to compensate for that glass of wine as it's not wise to deprive yourself of actual food.0 -

I can't give it up, but I can't afford to do it nightly. Plus, the more rarely you have things like that, the better they are
I tell a lot of people that you have to find the sweet spot where your goals and your willingness to change intersect. Some things are worth delaying our goals, other things aren't. It's different for everyone.0 -
I measure out my wine. Some brands are so much less in calories, too. The glass measuring cups makes me realize how much I can have. I will not give my wine up and with MFP I don't have to. It is part of my daily caloric intake. I gave up sweets instead. I'd rather have wine than cookies for my treat.0

I have these tiny wine glasses that hold only 4 ounces, so that's what I have every night -- no big pour. A small bottle of wine usually lasts me about a week.0

It was much easier for me to give up the alcohol than to give up the occasional bread, pasta, dessert, so that is what I've done. I will have a cocktail about once a month when out on a special night, but the whole evening tends to go off the rails, so I keep it very seldom. But I'd rather be thin than drunk. Ha-ha0

however long your goal takes , wether it be 4 ,5 ,6 months to reach a certain weight is the hardest. You can up the calories once you reached your goal . I would love to knock back a few beers but im not going to until i reach my desired weight. Stick to your targets and once you reached them , bring on the beer and wine0

There are a lot of things I will give up before my nightly glass of wine! I've gone from 32% body fat to 23% and I've rarely missed a glass.0

Easy to drink too much. Not only empty calories, but makes you hungry for junk. Moderation is fine, but if you can't give it up for the better good, perhaps that's not moderation. I know from past experience.0

Empty calories? Doesn't a glass of wine count as one serving of fruit?

ha ha, wish there was a like button! When I'm seriously trying to lose weight I cut out wine most of the time and have gin & slimline tonic instead. my problem with wine is that once the bottle is open it's never just one glass! !! ( & don't even go there with boxed wine! !)
Another tactic is to only let myself drink half my exercise calories. That one really motivates me! yes i know I'm an old soak & if it wasn't for alcohol I wouldn't be overweight in the first place.0 -
