When I was in NYC the past week I would give a wave or nod to the runners I passed and no one would even look at me. Here in VA, and when I get home in FL, that's just the standard. People give a wave back or wave first. I just kept on waving and smiling at people to see if anyone would respond - a couple did!

I grew up doing that in CA and also in VA... so here it's weird I catch myself smiling or saying hi- or good jog here in NJ and people look at me like I"m crazy- or they just seriously don't make eye contact.
Yes- the struggle of being a friendly runner!

LOL I'm from MD, and I live in NJ now. It's like people are afraid to speak or smile up here. I think it's funny.

So apparently all this running and eating less is good for my health.

    2x4m5koq05al.jpg

The numbers for my cholesterol, LDL, HDL, Triglycerides, etc have all taken a great turn for the better. In the graph, the start of my exercise and weight lose was March of 2015.

Not that I needed any more motivation but this definitely keeps that desire to run very strong.

Like @skippygirlsmom I always get upset with the other runners here who don't at least nod or wave in acknowledgement as they pass by but now I know why they don't!! They must be from NJ!!

@JoRocka - love your new picture! I have a (smaller) Carl who sits on my desk along with Kevin!
@Timby1 - great job on the hills and steps. Bet the ocean view made it easier going - maybe, just a little.
@CrimsonWhite - I am pretty sure runners are not supposed to walk and definitely not on sidewalks! Every time I do I get injured!
    @Stoshew71 - Love the message!
@Ohhim - Glad you were able to work with the delay and get in a run. Hope your flight south went without incident.
@7lenny7 - Great score on the beer tickets! Also awesome on your NSV with the blood tests!

I had an ok run today. Went late and it was already humid and getting hot! I was just happy to be able to get out there for a run! I may have overdone it a bit at strength training - my knee is a little sore again. I have a rest day tomorrow so it should hopefully be good to go on Thursday.

I'm going to set a goal of 75 I'm miles. I only have a Fitbit to determine my miles, which I know is not hugely accurate. I'm a newbie/beginner. Although I'll be honest, I do a lot more walking than running. But, hey at least I get out there, that's all that counts, right?

It's so true! I'm from Iowa and am currently living in NJ, so I'm always accidentally making accidentally eye contact and awkwardly smiling at people who would much rather pretend to ignore my existence entirely!

Managed 53 in the last 5 days so that's me up to 111 miles. My target of 200 is back on I think. :)

7/1 - took the 0-fer today after taking my wife to the ER at midnight, I slept in :/
7/2 - 5 miles on a perfect morning for a run in DSM...you all should be jealous!
    7/3 - 4 miles
7/4 - 7 miles, visiting in-laws, partial "trail run" through road construction
    7/5 - rest day
7/6 - 3.1 miles; planned for 5 but got completely washed out by huge rain
7/7 - seem to have got a summer cold...slept in, no run
7/8 - getting worse...ugh! May be a sinus infection. Nothing worse than being sick in the summer!
    7/9 - still sick...blah.
7/10 - heading out of town for a baseball tournament...still have a cold.
7/11 - FINALLY! 3.5 miles on hotel treadmill (22.6 for month)
    7/12 - more baseball...son's team won 9 year-old state championship! Woo hoo!
7/13 - 4 miles at 5:00 a.m., 81° and humid...air you can wear (26.6 for the month so far). Will catch up with everyone's weekend later today.
7/14 - 5 miles, still pretty hot, but not as humid as yesterday. Because of all the missed days from illness, adjusting my goal down to 100.
    7/15 - 4.1 miles.

@ddmom0811 - Nice distance PR! You are just killing it this summer!
@CaitlinAnne111 - That's right! We all start somewhere and your run/walk mix is way better than sitting like a lump  If you want more accurate distance, there are several mapping sites and/or apps. Or, if you have a smartphone, I suggest MapMyRun or MapMyFitness.

Only 4 weeks left of my 10K training program, and then I plan to start an intermediate 15K training program (first 15K this November!!)
Yesterday, I did a 5K, and it was actually a personal best time for me.

Great attitude girl on getting out there. I find that my Fitbit is fairly accurate when I do my 5k or 10k runs it pretty much shows that distance ( +/- 5% ) when I compare the log before I start to when I stop. I have a riverside trail that has Km Plaques embedded on the edge of the pavement and have confirmed the distances with my bike and Google earth.
