Ditto on "Secrets of a Restaurant Chef". I'm usually on the elliptical when that show comes on, and the SALT! OMG! No wonder she is as thick as a tree trunk.
They're all crazy with salt. I once heard her, as she was dumping piles of salt into the water with her pasta, say, "You know what it will taste like without the salt?"

    "Pasta," I thought.

    "Nothing!" she says.

That second, I actually envisioned her in the hospital bed after her heart attack, learning about what to eat to keep herself healthy in the future and resolving to do it. Anne needs to learn to appreciate herbs and spices a little more and salt, fat and sugar a little less!

They all do. You know Bobby Flay's mornings do not consist of chowing down on those breakfasts he makes on TV. Alton came right out and said that you can't make all his yummiest foods all the time and be healthy.

They should do a special, like two or three hours, where all the popular chefs make some healthy food.

butters and oils are delicious...fat = flavor...those chefs are being paid to make something exceptional...they aren't sitting there wondering about calories; they're creating awesomeness.

also, i do make a lot of the things they make...they aren't every day dinners...this is the kind of stuff you prepare for special occasions...also, you can cut back on the oils and butter if you wish...but personally, when I'm creating something awesome for my anniversary or something...well, I just want it to be awesome and I could give a *kitten* about the calories. Again...it's not like I would eat like that every day...but when you can look at the big picture and your diet as a whole, there's not reason you can't enjoy much of what these chefs make on occasion.

also, you might want to just stay away from restaurants in general.

Just a little factoid: Gordon Ramsey is a marathoner.

I love me some Gordon Ramsay. I'm a really nice person, but for some reason, I love to watch him yell at people. Especially on Hell's Kitchen.

Always! But I still love watching cooking shows though. I have a girl crush on Chef Giada.

I have a man crush on her, then remember I wouldn't have a chance. Besides, I think she's taken, dammit.

I hate "reality" cooking shows. Such bad acting. My favorites are Cooks Country and Americas Test Kitchen, both on PBS.

out of curiosity i actually followed a recipe once using all the recommended amount of oil, butter, heavy cream, salt, etc. the difference in taste was very noticeable, and i doubt the calories were all that different.

    Yes!! Me too!!
What about how they stick their dirty fingers into a salt bowl? I do quite like the sprinkling affect tho!

NO ONE should even be in the kitchen with dirty fingers. I always keep a covered bowl of salt next to my stove and use my impeccably clean fingers to sprinkle salt!

When I watch cooking shows I just wonder how they manage to not eat it all, especially desserts! My faves are My Kitchen Rules, Masterchef Australia and US.
