He said it doesnt need treated. I was like wth. I have horrible symptoms and my thyroid is enlarged. It makes no sense.0

See an endocrinologist for sure. Untreated hypothyroidism will set you up for a host of health problems down the road. On the other hand, if the endo no agrees that you don't need treatment, believe them. Thyroid meds can cause problems if you don't need them.0

Im calling one this morning. Hopefully she'll see me without a referal.0

Would a enlarged thyroid make it hard to lose weight? Why am I having all the symptoms of hypothyroid.
1. Get a referral to an endocrinologist.
2. I have Hashimoto's (autoimmune thyroid disease). Thyroid meds (in my case, Synthroid & Cytomel) reduce the fatigue so I can be more active. But they had no impact on my weight. I still kept gaining & gaining until I learned to log everything I eat & drink accurately & honestly. Logging works.
I lost the weight before my thyroid levels ever entered the "normal" range. I did it by following the advice in the Sexypants post: https://community.myfitnesspal.com/en/discussion/1080242/a-guide-to-get-you-started-on-your-path-to-sexypants/p10 -
Piling on the "see an endo" bandwagon. Push for it, if they say they don't take patients without a referral offer to send a copy of your recent test results and say you want a second opinion on them because you know you have a thyroid issue and you'd like it managed by a specialist. They may do a more detailed panel than your other doc.
I just recently got my levels fixed after working with an endo for months getting on meds and adjusting the dosage. It made a HUGE difference in my energy level. I'm still tracking and logging and exercising, but-- when I'm going to exercise, I get up, change, and go exercise. It's not a long argument with myself about how tired I already am and how little energy I have. It's a huge difference.0 -
Im exercising everyday. fitnessblender videos 5 days out of the week. Walking 1 and rest day once. Im eating 1200 or a little below in calories. Right now it seems like im just fluctuating between 185-180. Im hoping this week I break it.0

I had hyperthyroidism.. did ALOT of research coz stuff being on medication for life.
Doc said hed give me 3 months to go back for follow up.
Smashed broccoli, cut sodium, iodine (seafood) as much as possible.
Went back and it was all normal. My throid is swollen and has been for last 3yrs i do t know if it will go down.
I know when i have flu or im run down because it gets bigger.
Id say i live a healthy balanced lifestyle..
When youre hyper you have to try maintain your health because if you go too far you will become hypo.
My gran is hypo, on my mums side, shes overweight, has depression and just recently demensia, has been on thyroid medication her whole life, she never exercised or worried about what she put in her mouth. Be if she had a chance to go back and change life she would..
On my dads side his mum, his sister all had thyroid issues... dad and aunty both got cancer.
My dads had his thyroid removed, my aunty has been battling it for 9yrs as it spread.
So you can imagine i was sh!tting myself!
But as long as you exercise, have a balanced healthy diet, Do research and look after youself you shouldnt need drugs.
I also discovered thyroid issues stem from emotional issues as do most diseases / illnesses alot of people have issues they dont deal with, traumatic experiences or even self esteem and confidence issues. Upon finding this out i have been on the path to dealing with it and so far so good, i havent been sick again. ☺
Keep positive, keep consistant, give a f..k about YOU and your body, be awesome.
All the best. ☺-1 -

Exercise for fitness; log to lose weight.

You lose weight by eating fewer calories than you burn—period. I eat all the carbs.0 -
I love carbs.0

Editor its not a matter of "period". If you eat a lot of refined carbs, you'll find yourself eating too many calories. And also the thyroid is responsible for metabolism. If her thyroid is not working properly, her metabolism could be slow. But still 1200 is pretty low and i'm surprised you are not losing weight if you are indeed eating 1200.

Im eating 4 egg whites, wheat bread and a piece of cheese for breakfast, shredded chicken with a tsp of bbq sauce on wheat bread and dinner I eat whatever. Usually a meat, veggies and potatoes. Inless we get a pizza.0

Hypo and hyper thyroid symptoms don't fit easily in a box. I had a mix of symptoms with my initial diagnosis (Grave's Disease - so hyper). Some people with hyperthyroidism gain weight. It's not unusual. Just work on following your doctor's regiment until you figure out what works to get things regulated.
Keep logging your food and exercising. It can tougher for us thyroid disease sufferers, but it still works.0 -
Im not giving up this time. When I did I went into a depression. I dont like the way I look.0

kristinhull1 wrote: »I know that now. Im making a appointment to see a thyroid specialist and see what she thinks I need to do for a enlarged thyroid. I also am going to start taking fiber vitamins and a daily vitamin because the dr said d I had a vitamin d defeicny
So, vit D deficiencies are often caused by being overweight. I also have one that comes and goes. I *highly* recommend you go on the meds your doctor suggested (if you're enlarged, it's probably propylthiouracil or methimazole). And you'll likely be put on a prescription level of Vit D for a month or two, and they'll recommend you supplement with storebought vit D as well.
I'm basically just commenting to let you know that I have gone through all of this too, and you can and WILL make it through the other side. Get back to logging and focusing on eating at your deficit while following doctors advice!

What are healthy carbs? Definitions can vary from person to person.
No, it's accurate that losing weight just requires a calorie deficit. What type of foods you choose is individual.
She is not eating 1200 or she would be losing weight.
Kristen, you said yourself your logging is spotty and you are having trouble sticking to eating at a deficit. Get that under control and eat at a deficit and you will start losing again.0 -
@SLLRunner Ive heard to eat what the heck I want. Just make sure I eat my 1200 calories and try to exercise everyday and ill lose weight. So thats what ive been doing.0
