@mwyvr I have a 5k and a 5 miler in August, a 5k and 10k in September, two 5ks in October, and as of right now a 5k in November. I'm thinking my next New Years resolution will be a 1/2 in the spring of 2016, so I have all winter to train and work on my pace!

Nice job everyone reaching and surpassing their goals!

@melaniefave41 Poor car! Mine died from transmission failure half a year ago, after 16 years as "part of the family" *sigh* Maybe I should have dedicated a memory run to it too, rather than just stomping my feet by the side of the road while I waited for the tow truck...

@Aresende90 Great that you did that 10k - and with an absolutely awesome time, too!

    --

I signed up for a trial month at a gym close to home. It's a little less than 4km away, so on Saturday I thought I'd do the sporty thing and jog there and back. Not my brightest idea ever - it was one of the warmest and most humid days in quite some time, and since the place only opens at 10am on the weekends, I couldn't run there while it was still cool. I walked the last few hundred meters to ensure I wouldn't crawl though the lobby all sweaty and red-faced, before starting the "real" workout. When I went back, it was even more humid outside, plus I could hardly lift my legs. Ended up walking the last bit of the way home, too. Next time I'll be lazy and take the car again!

Today was much nicer, colder weather, so I ran past that gym and back (without going inside) just to prove to myself that I could ;)

    25.07.2015 - 3.6km + 2.9km
    26.07.2015 - 8.2km
    ---
68.5km of 70km done (and ticker not updating, as for everyone else)

@_nikkiwolf_ 16 years?! That's a long time! I'm having a hard time with letting go, but it's time... Good for you, running past the gym! I hate the gym, but keep my membership because, well, I don't always hate it, lol. Sometimes it's a necessary evil. Mine is a 24 hour deal though, which I like because I can go at odd hours when it's not busy.

@kristinegift @skippygirlsmom I'm really liking this dried fruit idea for longer runs! Just now getting to the point where I should probably start bringing a little something along on long runs and just can't bring myself to by goos and candy, stuff I normally wouldn't eat. Looking forward to trying the dried fruits out!

Today started out good. But by about 3.25 I was a little warm. No big deal, cooled off, forgot to consider carrying carbs for such a long run. Last leg back is up a steep hill. I walked. Notice I was yawning and tired. Heart rate dropped from 165-ish running to 78 walking up hill. Normal walking HR is probably closer to 110-130+. Maybe I was approaching a bonk. Sat down and got some cold water, HR returned to 110-120. Was weird. I didn't feel bad. Just tired.

Hi everyone. This is a continuation from the June (2015) Running Challenge which can be found at:
    http://community.myfitnesspal.com/en/discussion/10174616/june-2015-running-challenge

Anyone can join in. New & Old. And if you found this thread late, you can join in at any time.
We have members that are total beginners all the way to marathon maniacs and beyond. We are a friendly and encouraging bunch.

Here the details from last month that applies here again.

Anybody want to join me for a running challenge? Set a goal here and mark it every day here. OPTIONAL: You can post your progress by creating a ticker at http://www.tickerfactory.com (If creating ones seems difficult, then don't let that stop you. Just type in your daily miles here.)

You can run, walk, or do treadmill. Just be consistent. I am setting a goal for 180 miles. However, don't let that worry you. Some can do 25, 50; whatever you like. We can help motivate each other. What do you say? if you are new to running, set a low goal.

You can set your goal now but wait until Wednesday July 1st to log your runs.

Also, don't forget to join our group which can be found at:
    http://www.myfitnesspal.com/groups/home/21182-monthly-running-challange

There you will find lots of good info, and it's a place where everyone can talk to each other for further motivation. It's also a place to find help when there is a problem with this thread.

    *******OPTIONAL TICKER*************
Info on tickers since I know there will be questions. Sign up for an account http://www.tickerfactory.com and create your ticker.
Then you need to update it after you do a run and post it here. Here is what you will need to do.

After setting up your ticker, you will need to make note of the weblink they give you so you can return. An example would be:

http://www.tickerfactory.com/exercise/w6K1EiX/ <<<< the last part will be a part of the image link (explained below) that will be supplied to you after you initially create your link.

When you return to TickerFactory with the weblink, go to your settings page. Make sure you type your pin in that you set when you created your ticker account.
Then where it says "Your current cumlative value, there is an add button. Just add what you just did and the cumlative value automatically changes. Then hit next.

Now after you added your new miles (or km's) to your ticker you need to post it here.

After you hit next, it will give you a bunch of codes suggesting on how to display your ticker.
Use the one at the bottom where it says Direct Image URL:

    It will look something like:
    http://tickers.TickerFactory.com/ezt/t/w6K1EiX/exercise.png

To display that correctly in your post, make sure you place the img tags around that link. So it will look, (removing the spaces in the img tags):

    [ img ] http://tickers.TickerFactory.com/ezt/t/w6K1EiX/exercise.png [ /img ]

^^^^^^^ Don't forget to remove the spaces between the brackets. ^^^^^^^^^^

Some key things to pay attention to when posting your ticker.

1: Use the link that ends in .png
    2. Remember the [ img] and [ /img] tags go in between the link
    3. remove the spaces in the img tags before posting
    4. YES, there is a / in the second /img tag

Good luck! And happy running (or walking or treadmilling, ect). If you have any trouble or have questions, please feel free to PM me.

    Stan

If I am new to this, can I join and set a low goal of 20? It will literally be my first 20 miles in about 2 years.

I guess it will also be "jogging" rather than "running" for me.

    Yes!

You could probably get some decent ones at Target as well! See if there's any non-bagged ones in the produce aisle wherever you shop. That may be better than Walmart brand. I've also started getting these dried fruit packages from Brother's All Natural that are great! They have apple and strawberry and Asian pear, and they go great with packed lunches!

I was a bit iffy about it, but I think it's easier to digest than gels, cleaner than chews, and I don't eat as much to get the same energy. Some people in my running group have recommended dried fruit as well as gummy bears, as well as last-10k-of-a-marathon Coca Cola, lol. Plus dried fruit is just so delicious!

I see I have lots to catch up on!

We went camping with several families in the neighborhood. It's been a yearly event for about the last 15 years and typically consists of a lot of eating, some drinking, and floating down the river on various floating items. It's been such a great time that even adult children of the neighbors come back and join us.

I had hoped to get a couple runs in during the trip, but weather dictated that any run be early in the morning, which is very tough to do after the types of days and nights we have. I did manage to get up early one morning for a 4.2 mile trail run, but it was mostly turf trail so my feet were soaked with dew almost immediately. The run felt like quite a chore and I really didn't enjoy it. On the upside, it was a beautiful morning and my dog absolutely loved the run.

    Great runs everyone!

My ticker isn't playing ball this morning so it will have to be a manual update!

Ran 16.6 miles yesterday, bringing my total up to 82.81(which is 2.81 miles over my target whoop whoop!) Going to extend my target to 95 miles....
