May I join this group?........I've been battling my weight all my life...I'm now 62 and still struggling but added to all this I have spent the last 8 and half weeks with a badly broken ankle. I have been in a wheelchair and have just two days until I can put weight through my foot again. If my attempts to weigh while I have been laid up are correct then I have gone up 1 kilo.....
My biggest issue is "giving up" I cant seem to get through more than two or three days at a time. I want my weight down but obviously am not seemingly strong enough to do what it takes....I need support!

Strangely.....What I have found that helps is....altering my counting frame...ie...I count my calories from 5.30 pm until 5.30 pm....it seems I can cope with running out of food at night time so I find having all my calories ahead of me at tea time makes me feel that I can get through. Cutting down for breakfast and lunch next day seems easier for me....I ave altered my diary to reflect this. Its a bit awkward but for me it helps....

I have read some of your threads and setting goals and being prepared seems to help others so I'm now laying down my goals.
    Here I go.....
    1. to track my eating every day!
    2. to work back to walking a minimum of 10,000 steps every day.
    3. to drink an extra 3 glasses of water each day
    4. to plan a menu each week
    5. to only weigh myself once a week

    wish me luck!!!

Short but sweet ladies...here is a sample of how my day went at work and at home. Counter top remover guys came and took off countertops, backsplash, stove, and sink. Plumber came, had heart attack, and got carted out of my house on a stretcher. Imagine that phone call at work. Counter tops on, no sink til tomorrow when the emergency back up plumber is coming. Dust everywhere from cutting the quartz, even inside drawers. Massiv headache from countertop glue. GAAAAA going to bed! See you tomorrow!!! Meg from dusty, stinky OMaha

Welcome to this little group. Sorry about your broken ankle! Thats a tough thing! When I brok my toe over (right foot, 4th toe) I had a hard time walking. Because I walked so much, they operated on it and reset the bones with a spike down the toe re-alining the bones. I wrecked my back because I was favoring my foot....I was a mess!
By logging on supporting each other, you become joined  No paperwork needed! haha
When I joined in May of this year, the senior threaders (the mentors of this here group), said that I could pile up any "emotional baggage" I had on the white sides of the screen here.

    Which really relieved me. :-)

The reason most people fail instead of succeed is that they trade what they want the MOST for what they want at the MOMENT.

    1056287i3zmwzup2m.gif Stats for today:
    23,000 steps
    three hours of dog walking
50 minutes on the exercise bike
taught the two hour line dance class
    weight training
over an hour on the exercise bike

569147nmlfkdnzlz.gif Pip, I understand the feeling of wanting to go to any lengths to avoid surgery so I applaud your attempts to do so.....but now that you've gotten good advice from a specialist, I am sending my warmest thoughts to you for a speedy recovery and a return to your full strength and exercise routine

smiley-happy032.gif Today was a special day in my line dance class....many of you know about the line dance teacher that I shared the class with for a long time before her health made it necessary for her to turn the class over to me....since then her husband died. Her 80th birthday is this weekend and she decided to bring cake to class to celebrate her birthday with the dancers. I planned a program of dances that were her favorites and many that I learned as a beginner. In addition to the regular class there were about 20 people who came especially for her birthday. Three of her daughters and her youngest granddaughter came for the weekend and came to class with her. She has been an important person in my life for the almost 11 years I've lived in Washington, and I was honored to be able to be a part of this special celebration.

2157045gp85zev8ri.gif I did my weight training again today. It's an at home with dumbbells variation of Mary's Strong Lifts 5X5 and it's a routine I can stick with. Tomorrow I'll order heavier dumbbells so I can increase the weights. My heaviest dumbbells right now are 15 pounds.
smiley-happy032.gif We had a tiny bit of rain today which is very good news in current drought.

Some Henna work I had done at a Pirate Festival in Vacaville CA. I LOVE henna. Many times I have bought the Mendi powder and mixed some myself, put in the bottle and just started doodling on my arm, leg or other hand. Its addictive!

I have started using iPhone to count steps. I work at a large hospital and always assumed I walked a LOT. I am sorry to learn that I do not, only about 4000 steps a day. 10,000 is way more than I had imagined. Seems like it may not be possible in the course of a day. My last child is leaving for college next week and I am trying to decide if I want to buy a bike or take tennis lessons. I did a lot of both back in the years before children. I don't know that I would be able to stick to a plan to walk everyday.

Lillian- I know your struggles with your sistera first hand. I have an older sister and a younger sister and I can count the times on one had when all three have us have been getting along. Both as children and as adults. My only advice would be be true to who you are and love them both with all you have.

Sorry PJ - I think you mixed me up with someone else. I haven't discussed my "lovely" sister here....yet. :(

    Hello,
I'm just starting with MFP and have been enjoying the blogs with all the new recipes and exercise. The food diary has been very helpful. I am beginning to write in the these community thread and still feel pretty clumsy at it. I am use to talking to people face to face.

My profession is quite active and I often get 12000 to 13000 steps at work however when I get off I find Its hard to get the motivation to keep It up. I walk every day which helps but struggle to get 10000 steps.

Exercised for an hour in the water today. The plan for tomorrow is to do an Advanced Strength Training DVD.

After exercise went to Bi-Lo to get items on sale (I'm still surprised how much I spent), then stopped at Big Lots to see about bread for Vince which they didn't have but I did get him pretzels that were on sale. Stopped at Burks Outlet but they didn't have anything. Then went to the soup kitchen. One lady made brownies for the general meeting and I took the remainder to the soup kitchen. Also made my own donation.

Lenora - what a scary experience you had with your accident!

    Welcome everyone new!

dlm - where did you go on your vacation?

Melinda - so sad about your sisters

Joyce - Dove makes some caramel-filled chocolates and they are just small pieces.

Chris - thanks for popping in. So glad you're having such a good time

Went and exercised in the pool this morning. when I was teaching at the Y in PA, they had this Beach Boys CD which I copied. It's probably about 135bpm. Anyway, I asked them to put that on the CD while I was exercising. As I left, one lady said to me "see ya next week....and be sure to bring your CD's" Now I wish I'd copied more of their CD's.

MargaretTurk - your pancake looks delish. Too bad I would be the only one eating it! Gorgeous doily and frame

terri - yea for that NSV

Guess I'll go in the pool now. Later chickas!

DJ - have a great time at the wedding

Carol/peach - I really like the shirataki noodles. The only thing is that sauce doesn't really stick to them, or at least I haven't found a way to get it to.

katla - you don't even want to read the review that I wrote about that restaurant!

Becca - "Love and care for the people who want to be in your life and hope that your outstretched hand is accepted". I like that, I need to remind myself of it when I start to think about Bryan. You are so creative for your TOPS/KOPS group. Your soup looks scrumpdilli-ous

dlm - For a while I wore a pedometer and I was shocked, too, at how few steps I actually did take. I should probably put one back on and just use it to see how many steps I do take in a day. Originally, I started around 2,000 and increased it to 5-10,000. Now that I haven't worn one in a long time, I wonder if my step count is still the same.

raymax - what kind of work do you do?

Patient care in a hospital, I basically move from room to room, and do a lot of lifting too. Needless to say I skip the gym on the days I work

Heather: I will be thinking positive thoughts for your rental sale. Visiting and seeing the place for yourself is an excellent idea. :flowerforyou:

margf: Finding this group is one of the luckiest things I've ever done. Welcome, and plan to stick around for sensible support, advice, and encouragement. :flowerforyou:

DJ from Myrtle Beach, SC: Life is grand, indeed. Enjoy your time in Texas. :flowerforyou:

Barbie: We are having gentle rain right this minute. It is welcome. :flowerforyou:

I just came home from visiting with neighbors. They've moved here from the southern Oregon coast within the last year and are having trouble finding new doctors in our area. Many practices are not taking new patients, and especially not patients with Medicare. I hope they find a way through this. He has health issues that really require good care. Is this a common problem in other parts of the country, too?

    August Goals:
    1. Log every bite and swallow.
    2. Cardio exercise at least 3 days a week. Work on flexibility and back strength.
    3. Have fun every day.
    4. Drink at least three glasses of water daily, preferably more!
    5. Eliminate alcohol.
    6. Monitor sleep. Try to average 7 or more hours of sleep nightly.

Barbie- Don't forget to take your measurements so you can celebrate your recomp. I do bicep, chest, below breasts, smallest part of waist, above hip bones, largest area around hips, thighs, above knees, calves, ankles and wrists. Take pictures too. I add wrist and ankle weights to my bar to increase by 1 lb increments. You are going to be very happy with the change to your body. Watch out for your DH though, he will have a hard time keeping his hands off of you!

    Good Evening Ladies,

Just a quick check in. I've caught up on the posts but didn't make any notes. The wedding today was very small with just family but tomorrow the reception will have lots of people that I don't know. Should be fun, celebrating the marriage. The groom is 44 yrs old and never been married. Seems like a good enough fellow and I think he will be very good for the kids. We were up late last night and up early this am so I'm one tired puppy and going to bed by 10:00. Guess that's what happens when you get old? Not that any of you would know. It's been a real struggle to eat healthy because they DON'T. LOL I did go to the store today and got some lettuce and broccoli for me and who knows, maybe one of them will at least taste it. Not much on veggies but at least the kids eat fruit.

Think of all of you and keeping you in my prayers.

    Love ya,
    DJ, temporarily in Dallas
