Are there certain machines at the gym to avoid for weight loss?

I know you can't spot reduce, but i've finally gotten into the habit of working out, and normally use the treadmill, elliptical, do weights for arms and legs, and ab workouts. My calves are really big, I used to play soccer, and an employee at the gym said the stair master, and walking on incline will make them bigger. I want to lose weight everywhere, and along with eating well, which machines do you recommend, and not recommend? Thanks

I think the gym employee is an idiot. Walking on an incline will make them bigger? Well, you better sit on the couch then!
There's no specific machines to avoid. Weight loss is created by a calorie deficit and is primarily food based. Exercise is for fitness. If you're just starting out and getting into the habit of exercise, don't over complicate it. Do what you enjoy at the gym.0 -

I'd recommend not listening to an ignorant gym employee
Also if possible, i would move weight machine time to free weights, or at least TRX or cables
What weight programme are you following?0 -
Im not following any program, just move from machine to machine at the gym.0

You'll probably see better results if you follow a weight lifting program. Have search through the forums. A lot of people recommend Strong Curves and strong Lifts. It's not mandatory but it'll liky give you more bang for buck if you're going to be spending time at the gym anyway.0 -

If you can't bring yourself to do free weights yet then do a decent bodyweight programme

But it all comes down to calorie intake for fat loss so don't forget your calorie counting
