#day5stillalive lol @gobonas99 Medical is being very supportive, doctor appointments every 2 weeks and a phone call on the weeks in between to monitor my progress. Day 5, and my HR has dropped, i can already feel like i'm breathing easier. Haven't yet shifted the coughing.
I said it was the only way i was going to see a 23min 5km... did 24'06 today0 -

Despite getting on the podium on my walmart bike last month, I caved and picked up a real triathlon bike at a Labor day sale over the weekend as I committed to do a 70.3 and full ironman next year (both Florida) and figured I'd need a real bike. Given my other ride is carbon-fiber/ultegra, I knew I wouldn't put in the training hours on it if the ride wasn't as comfortable, so I focused on the lower tier carbon fiber bikes for my search.
For purchases from bike shops that could do proper fittings, I took a look at the QR Kilo ($1800), Felt B16 ($1450), Kestrel Talon Tri Ultegra ($1600), and Kestrel Talon Tri 105 ($1350). As the Felt B16 was the best fitting bike (with solid fitting support), was from a good shop nearby and felt pretty good on my test ride, I ended up snagging it. It needs a bit of tuning (as the microshift/105 setup won't consistently shift up to the 8th/9th gear) but I'll take it back in to fine tune my fit and clean up any shifting/other issues before my next race in 8 weeks once my flexibility in the aero position improves and the cables are broken in.
Otherwise, returned to the cooler north today so I'll be focusing more on my swimming & running this week, and just doing my shorter (but intense/hilly) commutes to/from baseball games.

@Ohhim - oooooh! purty! I'm a little jealous. I love my Ruby....but I really want to get a Shiv for racing!
It is a bit heavy (comes in at 21lb without pedals vs. 18 for the talon), and my main Florida road bike (Specizlied Roubaix Comp) is an awesome ride, but I figured that given the price and impending races, it would make sense to snag. I think the idea of having to run a full marathon post-112 mile bike ride got me strongly reconsidering biking a race in standard road position.
Also, having a few similar height triathlete friends from out of town who want to visit me this winter & join me for a local race (St. Anthony's, Trirock, Escape from Ft. Desoto), having a good bike available for them to race on may help twist their arm into making a visit.

I think the idea of having to run a full marathon post-112 mile bike ride got me strongly reconsidering biking a race in standard road position.
I converted my Ruby (the ladies version of the Roubaix) to aero in January (aerobars, forward leaning seatpost), and now, unless I'm riding in a paceline, I'm almost never out of aero! But the downside is that with the forward leaning seatpost, it isn't very comfortable to ride in a standard road position for more than a few minutes at a time. I have my "road setup" saddle/seatpost, but I never think about swapping it out for group rides until AFTER the ride has started LOL!
I have a list of "wants" for next season - and although a Shiv is my biggest want, it is also the most expensive one, so that will probably be a 2017 or 2018 investment. My other biking wants are, in order: the Evade Tri helmet, a power meter, and race wheels. The helmet and power meter will be for next season (along with the tri/swim HRM for my 920)....race wheels and can rent or borrow.

Old Forge half marathon in the morning. Heading up tonight, so I can sleep in tomorrow Cross your fingers that the forecasted torrential rain holds off until noon, since it's a trail run!0 -
Finally got back in the pool today. I've been toying with the idea of doing a half marathon tomorrow morning, but it doesn't look like the weather will cooperate, and I was a bit active today, so it looks like my next race won't be until November.

Well that's a soaking wet day here in London then. Drenched to the bone within minutes of stepping outside, so figured may as well stay wet for a bit. Got some funny looks from folks.

Ended up taking it easy yesterday, as I had to commute to/from 2 baseball games by bike (killing time in the middle with some riding along with a Margarita break with a friend). I know I'm falling behind on my swimming so I'm planning to get in 2 miles of that over the next 2 days to try to catch up. I also need to get back into weight loss mode as I'd like to do my November Olympic triathlon & half marathon about 10lb below my current weight so I can crack the 2:30 & 1:35 marks for each.
