If I had space/money for a rack and weights I'd workout at home. Otherwise there isn't a single workout I'd make it through that I could do at home. Need the gym and weights. Hate jumping around in my apartment.

I am in love with my gym. If you know what you're doing, there is a much wider variety of things to do. For cardio, I ride my bike (outside), so at the gym, I am committed to lifting weights and sometimes I do yoga classes. I do push exercises one day, pull another day, legs a third day and abs a fourth day. I try to go to the gym every day, so if I miss one or two days, it's not the end of the world. I could never be faithful to workout at home. For me it doesn't work.

So each day you focus on a different body part??

I tend to be more motivated when I’m at the gym (I currently have three gym memberships and I also have a home gym). But I opt for convenience and do what makes the most sense.

I had a gym membership for years and I loved it. Due to budgetary constraints, I don't anymore but I've found a way to work at home, and I really push myself. bonus, my kids exercising with me.

There is no right or wrong, it's all about what works for you.

I see you are personal trainer. I plan on being certified myself soon. What made you decide to go through NASM?

It was a well designed program with definite science behind their protocols. It is one of the top three recognized organizations. And I was able to do it on my own time (self study, online courses, text book, and local testing center).

I’ve since gotten my specialties in Fitness Nutrition and Corrective Exercise. And I’m studying now for one in Senior Fitness.

Totally agree! I'm glad your kids workout with you! I'm sure that adds more fun and less stress. I don't have children.. But I do work out with one of my siblings and I like doing that! There is always a way to stay fit no matter where or with whom=)

Okay nice, yes! they were one of my choices too so I'm happy to learn they are good. I'm definitely deciding between a few different ones. I'd love to hear all about personal training and NASM from you whenever you get the chance to share or what have you. I would greatly appreciate it. I think you would be an awesome help and maybe even guide! I'm getting my exercise science degree (should be graduating this may) and I'm excited. But I want to definately get certified too so I probably have tons of questions for ya! Lol

Right now I am at at home person. I have tried the Gym many times, but I find the added time of preparing my clothes, going to the gym, working out, getting changed coming home - it just seems like too much effort to me and I can rarely convince myself to go.

At home though, any time I am sitting on the couch for 5 minutes I'm like "better do something" and I just go do it, within 2 minutes. I am using my Wii as my main source of fitness/entertainment. I have Just Dance (1-4) and last night I tried the Biggest Loser for the first time. I like that the Wii gives you feedback, and you are aiming for a goal and you can unlock new game items. I find doing it this way it seems less like a chore, and more like a fun game, and I am motivated to continue every day.

    Hi,
Used to go to the gym a lot when I was single. But then kids and a house happened and suddenly I had no money. £30 a month for a membership when i could do it for free at home was a no brainer.

It took me a while to find some good videos. But then I discovered insanity. I loved it and moved onto T25 and Max 30.

    Shaun.

I used to have a gym membership but I cancelled it to try and save some money as we were trying to buy a house. I got started with the Beachbody workouts, and was able to find a bike trainer at a yard sale over the summer. So now I just do the workouts and ride my bike for a bit down in the basement. I'll probably do that as long as I can before joining a gym again.

Hello Shaun! Glad you could share with us! I've never done either of those videos but I've heard they are really good and worth it!

I have a home gym..I can jump into my workout clothes and go. Then jump right into the shower. No traveling to the gym is a time saver for me.... granted it took me a year to buy all the equipment I have in my home I needed...' :):)

Not a bad idea! Workout equipment can be pricey, nice job finding a deal though lol

Yes!!! Exactly. I'm on my way to the gym now to do "push" exercises, focusing on upper body, chest and arms. Yesterday I did "pull" exercises, focusing on shoulders, back and different areas of the arms. Friday I did legs.

I've been a gym member from around 14 years old (currently 23). My favorite is group classes so I totally need a gym for that. I also started lifting recently so I need a gym for that. I'd love to have my own equipment, or a second gym membership to a gym that is closer and has better opening hours than my current one just so I can save time on my lifting days.

As to home workouts, never gave it a true shot and I think I would have found it hard to stay consistent. I did do a yoga video on youtube today and liked that...

As to outdoors, I'm dutch so I cycle. Currently I cycle about 3 hours a week to get to places. 2,5 of those are getting to the gym and back. I've always wondered if I would have been more of an outdoorsy person if I grew up somewhere else (with a better climate.) Kayaking always seemed like a lot of fun.
