Hunger

So let's be honest am I the only person that thinks that when I am hungry and my stomach grumbles that I am winning! That to resist the urge to eat for a while is winning? I am not saying not eat but for example right now I am hungry I am having eggs for breakfast but I will not let myself eat them for a bit. Sounds crazy doesn't it.

That sounds like a similar trait to an eating disorder. If you have been a person who has never allowed yourself to feel hungry then I can understand why getting there might feel like something you should celebrate but if your still holding off from eating then I see no sense in that at all.

Why would you deliberately want to prolong your hunger. Eat your eggs now!!

How hungry? I've learned that it's OK to be slightly hungry... like I don't have to stuff myself at every meal and feel full all the time. That's cool.

It's a control thing and honestly I love to feel full didn't end up here by not eating. Ok it's a little weird.

The sense might be that eating at the very first appearance of hunger means you end the day very hungry and out of calories, as opposed to being slightly hungry for an hour before you eat and having your calories last all day.

I USED to think this way - "Oh my stomach is grumbling, I must be burning fat!". It wasn't long after I thought this for the first time that I realized I had an eating disorder and needed help. After getting that help, I didn't ever think the way again. If my stomach is grumbling or I'm getting hunger pangs - I eat. My body is telling me it needs something, it's pretty important to listen to it.

This is probably more accurate and also this way I am sure I am really hungry and not just eating because I am bored.

Yeah, if that approach means I have an eating disorder, then I have an eating disorder. Oh well, it's an eating disorder that has me at a normal BMI, maintaining my weight, with good blood work, excellent blood pressure, a lower heart rate, running three times a week, lifting four times a week, eating Tex-Mex when I want, and being more active than I've been in decades. I'm fine with that.

It's not really like that. What's the difference if I was to say I intermittent fast wouldn't I sometimes be hungry but have to prolong it to the chosen hours I had picked to be my feeding time. I don't think feeling hunger is a bad thing I think eating when you feel no hunger is worse. I was actually just wondering if anyone else felt that way and I guess there is only one other.

Your posts in the past have indicated you have tendencies toward disordered eating and favor VLCD. This is another example. Please get help, @zyxst provided a link above.

Does your therapist know you do this? When you say you won't allow yourself to eat your eggs yet, are they prepared and you're making yourself wait or are you just putting off eating until an appointed time?

The answer is yes it has been discussed. Also I make my eggs before I leave the house in the morning when I make my lunch then I heat them up. It's not like I am staring at a plate of food torturing myself.

Also, cold eggs are terrible. Why not just eat the eggs when you cook them?

You know what makes me feel like I'm winning? Eating delicious foods, in moderation, within my calorie allotment, exercising to improve my fitness levels, and achieving my weight loss and maintenance goals without suffering.

I IF for 14-16 just about everyday. Nothing wrong with it. I'm not hungry & like having my calories later in the evening. I drink water and 2 cups of coffee & about now, 12p, I start feeling hungry. I either skip breakfast totally or have breakfast and then for lunch I eat a yogurt and then dinner is at 6ish so I'm happy. if you're happy & eating well nutritious meals daily (eating at your MFP goal), sounds good to me. Everyone has differences of opinions as you see here. Do what works for you

    eating Tex-Mex when I want

Worst part of restricting calories and living in Texas: I can't eat as many enchiladas, steak burritos, and chile rellenos as I want. ;)

I don't view hunger as winning. If I am busy, I usually forget about it. Been a problem in the past, such that I can forget to eat all day if I am working on something. Not as much now, since I've lost a lot of weight. Skipping more than one meal is challenging, because I am actually hungry, and not just eating to eat.

First off I do not eat cold eggs that sounds terrible unless it is egg salad hard boiled or deviled. I do not have time to eat at the house and frankly eating at 6am just does not appeal to me at all. Second thank you to all that have responded with valuable information. Not everyone eats the same food or at the same time or with the same feeling and emotions. That does not make those different from you wrong just different.

It's the chips and tortillas that present the problem for me. Three enchiladas, rice, and beans is pretty feasible. Six or more bowls of fried chips and a lot of corn tortillas and the wagon starts to get a little creaky.

I hate being hungry. When I was in high school, I felt that hunger was a sign of success and I was hungry starving, thin and stupid. This time round I am hungry, but I try to find a way to eat as much as a I can. In fact, I consider it a win to eat more and still lose, which sadly, is not always easy to cram in :(.

I hate being hungry, too. I don't mind putting off a meal for a couple hours if it's just minor belly hunger, though. As long as I don't get fatigued and slack off on a work out.

I do think someone who associates hunger with virtue, especially when they have a history of disordered eating, is playing a dangerous game.

We all do have different feelings and emotions around eating. Some of these can cause harm to us -- either physical or emotional. Let's not pretend that every feeling or emotion is okay just because it is a feeling or emotion.

OK, well that's why i asked the question. I'm not sure I understand why you continue to post here when the regulars know you have an eating disorder and then get disgruntled when we don't praise you for whatever behavior you're touting that day.

The game I play is that I'll decide I want something but not eat it until I've eaten what's good for me. Usually I'll end up not indulging.

Except this poster is talking about holding off on eating eggs because she wants to feel her hunger and considers that winning.

Not the same as waiting to eat a cookie until you've eaten your broccoli.
