Trying to watch what I eat or portion control. And don't know if seer potatoes is one of those vegetables to limit, like corn or white potatoes. I eat maybe 1/2 sweet potato every other day. They seem to be the only thing that keeps the cravings away.

If it's just about calories, just make sure it fits in your goal for the day. Sweet potatoes are pretty good for you from my understanding. I have some a couple times a week now that it's fall.
  • Sweet potatoes are full of fiber, vitamins, and will make you feel full! Eat them! Just make sure you weigh them to get an accurate calorie count.

IF it fits in your calorie limit there is no reason not to eat sweet potato.

I limit them myself to a couple times per week. Just my preference. But, you can eat them at every meal if you want. It's the simple carbs that should be limited imo.

ETA - They are so delicious with the queaollso chipotle laughing cow wedges... Yummy!!

I eat sweet potatoes just about every day...sometimes even just as a pre or post-workout snack. Half of a small one, with a touch of butter and seasalt tend to fight off that crazy monster hunger I get after a good workout...and alternatively, it helps me to have the energy I need to do a good workout in the first place! xo

In terms of weight loss, if it fits your calorie goal you can eat whatever food you want.
    Enjoy your sweet potato.

    This is the question.

Seriously, sweet potatoes ARE similar to corn or potatoes -- more of a starch course than what we normally think of as vegetables, but that just means they have more calories, not that they are bad foods to eat. Sweet potatoes have lots of things going for them nutritionally, and I think they are delicious roasted.

And if they help you with cravings, that's even better.

If you like them and they keep cravings away, why would you even consider not eating them?

I'm having sweet potato, green bean and cauliflower curry tonight and eat them quite often. They're full of vitamins and fibre and a lot less calories pro-rata than rice or pasta. Why wouldn't you eat them?

Eat ALL the sweet potatoes!! They are delicious. It's what you add to them that can hinder your goals.

I love eating sweet potatoes that way! Often I'll have 1/3-1/2 a sweet potato and one or two hard boiled eggs as breakfast. Holds me over nicely until lunch.

This would depend on your weight loss approach, wouldn't it?

Russet potatoes trigger rebound carb cravings for me, but sweet potatoes are very satisfying and help to keep the cravings away. I eat a lot of sweet potatoes and very few russets.

I had 4.5 ounces of baked sweet potato last night with dinner and am fixing to have some with scrambled eggs and veggies for lunch. (I count sweet potatoes as a starch rather than a veg.)

I'm so used to grams now that I just realized that 4.5 oz of sweet potato means nothing to me, like how I feel kind of blank when someone says 65 kg until I do the math.

    Weird. Almost unpatriotic. ;-)

I left my digital scale at mom's and am making due with my spring scale until I get back over there.

I wish I could eat the regular ones without craving carbs later, but on the bright side, that's the only common non-sweet starchy food that causes such problems. I've talked to people on here who can eat potatoes but not pasta or bread. That would be a lot harder for me.

Awesome! My coworkers think it's crazy, but then they tell me how good it smells after I heat it up. :)

Sweet potatoes are fine to eat because they are not white.
