My apartment building just got a new stationary bike with a fancy computer display that shows the cadence calculated for your effort. For some reason it makes more sense to me than RPMs although I imagine it's the same thing. Psychologically I feel more like I'm actually riding a bike.

Rediscovered my bike after 5 months, did ~25km on Friday and 45km today. I'm happy that despite the lack of exercise over the summer/fall, these rides felt fine (except for my butt).

For those of you who do 100+ miles a week, would a fitness bike be enough bike for that goal or are we getting into needing a road bike. I have a specialized sirrus. The basic one, no disc brakes etc. The tires are 700x32 but are not knobby. I do have some dirt/gravel I need to travel to get to the city bike path loop so was curious if road bikes can do ok with that.

Good to see you to the thread! Road bikes are quite unstable on gravel and respond very different to a hybrid or a fitness bike. If you have dirt/gravel it will not work very well expecially on wet days. My opinion would be if you want longer miles and want a road bike plan on hauling it to the city. Otherwise your Specialized will still work the best. Even a gravel pebble on a blacktop trail can throw you if your not holding on tight and hit it.
