I dug a little plastic one out of the back of a cabinet. Was considering getting something digital. What do you recommend?

Assuming you mean a digital food scale: Eat Smart Pro Precision Digital Kitchen Scale, on sale now on Amazon for $14.95. I love it AND their customer service is terrific.

I love my Taylor bamboo scale it was 36 at Walmart but it has a Tare function which really is essential! I have not regretted my splurge since.

Thanks for the input. What is a Tare function if I might ask.

Tare lets you reset the weight back to 0 even when you have food on the scale.

I have an Ozeri digital scale I bought on Amazon- this model http://www.amazon.com/Ozeri-Digital-Kitchen-Capacity-Stylish/dp/B003E7AZQA/ref=sr_1_6?s=kitchen&ie=UTF8&qid=1446049035&sr=1-6&keywords=digital+food+scale

I have it a year now, works great and still haven't needed to replace batteries. Just bought it for someone as a gift.

I have a Biggest Loser digital scale from Bed Bath and Beyond (19.99) is has a tare function, which I don't think I could live without. I have had this scale for over 5 years and it still works great. I think any scale with the tare function would be a good one.

I have this one. Admittedly it's a little spendy when it comes to scales. Ours was a gift to match our decor. (I love the bamboo one, too!) But it really does work great, plus it tucks away nicely & is easy to wipe clean because it's flat.

But I agree that any one with a tare function will work just fine.

I use this one. It is great, simple to use, and has a tare function too. It's nice that the glass platform can be used or removed.

I have seen some digital food scales on sale for around £40. To me, this is INSANE.

I have a perfectly decent electronic scale which I bought on Amazon for £3 and it works an absolute treat.

I have a digital scale that is small and flat. It is ok if I'm putting my food on a saucer, but if a use a salad plate or dinner plate, I can't see the read out. Does anyone have this same problem? Should I get one with an elevated platform? Does that solve the problem?

I've had this one for 2 years. Work beautifully. I haven't had to replace batteries even though I use it every single day.

I do have that problem. I just use a tall tumbler instead to measure. It's awkward, but works.

Oh! That's a good idea. I'll try that. Thanks.

Check out the OXO digital food scale with pull-out display. This scale allows me to weigh large platters, cutting boards, sheet pans, etc. I love it, my only complaint is that when you touch the button to light the display, the light turns off automatically too quickly for my preference, I wish it would stay on longer. Not a big deal though.

Pull-out display? and a Light? sounds perfect. :) Thanks!

Whatever you get, if you're going to be making big batches of things and portioning them out, I'd highly recommend getting one with an 11 pound capacity.

My first scale had a 5 pound capacity and it ended up being a pain. Simply putting the blender jar on it and making a smoothie made the readings dodgy because it was so heavy relative to its capacity.

i have this one, not because i picked it but because it happened to be left over from when we had roommates lol.

I like the glass top easy to clean.

Is 11 pound capacity enough for casseroles and such?

I have this one too. I have had it for 3 years, changed battery once. Purchased at Target for less than $20.00.

Yup! Casseroles and pots of soup and the like are why I recommend it!

Do you weigh the whole thing at once?

I would have thought you would weigh the portion you plan to eat.

Or do people eat 10lb of casseroles?

I just got a generic digital scale from Coles.

Seems to do everything I would want it to do.
