Name a reason why people do not drink plain water?

Some people cannot drink a plain glass of water. Why?
Curious as can be. Not judging anyone. Just trying to understand reasons.
* I love water. Grew up in warm climate and it was always refreshing and cleansing.

It's cold where I live so I mostly drink tea for the warmth.

I grew up drinking well water that smelled of rotten eggs. Municipal water here depending on the season tastes like chlorine or is fishy smelling. Too cheap to buy bottled water. My water has to have something in it even if its just a splash of lemon

When I am craving something sweet instead of eating candy I will add the jolly ranchers singles to go to my water. Workouts and breakfast is the only time I drink plain water.

My grandmother hates the taste of it, or lack of taste maybe? She doesn't even like taking meds with water. She's 95 and has subsisted on iced tea and Diet Dr. Pepper so I feel like drinking straight water isn't THAT important.

I personally drink a ton of water and I prefer it as my drink of choice. But when people aren't crazy about water I imagine it as that feeling when you're hungover and even though you're dehydrated, drinking water tastes like whatever you got hammered on the night before, and it's totally gross and nauseating.

They like the taste of other beverages more.

I like water, too. I used to drink soda and juices and such, but water really hits the spot in a way they never did. I like putting water in my body, too. Like, "Here you go!" Seems healthier. :)

I CAN (and make myself), but I don't like it. Never have.

Oh yeah, and it needs to be ice cold. I would absolutely gag if I tried to drink warm or room temp water.

Marketing. Almost from birth we are taught by commercials and printed advertisements that we must drink manufactured beverages.

The craziest thing is the people that only drink bottled water. Water is water regardless of the container.

FWIW; Did you know that the earth has the same amount of water on it now as at the very beginning? There is no "new" water. Yesterday's urine is today's tall, cold glass of water (or soda).

Carbon filter should alleviate most of that. Is your municipal source water surface or well water?

Only drink water but it has to be room temp. I don't like anything cold but I run cold as a person.

Because people have different personal sensory preference in what they drink. They are like people that way.

Water just isn't particularly delicious. Have you ever heard a person be like "omg this water tastes AMAZING!" Lol. I don't think it tastes bad though and it's rather refreshing at times. Now....if you add a few slices of cucumber to it...that's some good tasting water B)

Think of something that you don't like the taste of, and then ask yourself why. You'll have your answer.

Plain water is boring and tasteless. I really only drink it if i'm super thirsty because it does do a great job of quenching thirst on a hot day.
  • I'm one of those people that hates plain water. No flavor. I get my water from my soda, my choice even though some people would throw a fit about it. I only like bold flavors in my drinks and what I eat.

I like water and so I don't have a good answer, but this question always reminds me of this meme.

    That's me!

Seriously, OP I HATE the taste of plain water. Hate it. I live in a super duper hot, humid, tropical climate and I still hate it.
And having plain water on an empty stomach makes me feel nauseated.
I use crystal light and pure lemon/orange (powder) or La Croix water. It helps.

Meh, plain water is okay but I'd rather have seltzer water

i didn't drink plain water for the same reason i don't eat things that are bland.
i gave up drinking coffee all day and am not one for drinking sodas and can't drink juices all day so i now do drink water but, only if its cold, flitered and has sliced organic cucumbers in it! oddly though, i always enjoy drinking plain water when it is Evian, have no clue why, it just tastes different to me than all other waters i have had.

Echoing others -- plain water is boring and bland and doesn't taste good to me. Or perhaps I should say I don't find the lack of taste appealing at all.

Right now I'm having a very large cup of hot, delicious coffee flavored water. ;)

I prefer plain water that is room temperature. I hate ice in it.
I hate to waste calories on liquid (unless it's wine!). I'd rather use the calories on food.
    I won't use artificial sweeteners.

Current source is water from the Great Lakes . I do filter it but there's times when stench is over whelming

I grew up drinking tap water. This is what each glass looked like: https://youtube.com/watch?v=h4M7AKxh_vg It also tasted bad - not like the tap water I drink now.

The only "bottled water" available in the 1960s was 5-gallon Sparklett's or Arrowhead water which you could only get with a monthly contract that included the dispenser - they weren't sold in stores or machines like they are now. Most people I knew drank tap water.

Actually, yes, I've heard many people say that, and have said it myself. The first time I drank water from a clear mountain spring (in the Sierras in California - an actual spring, not river or creek), I couldn't believe how amazing it tasted. And after growing up drinking that horrible tap water, I still am sometimes amazed at how good some water can taste.

It took me years to get used to drinking plain water, and I haven't come to learn to love it, but I tolerate it, and drink at least 64 ounces a day. I started drinking it in my thirties when I joined Weight Watchers for the first time, and have drunk it ever since. I still prefer any liquid with flavor, but I am perfectly OK with drinking water plain. But it has to be ice cold.

We live in the country and have great well water, I totally love it. Everyone else in the family wants soda, tea, gatorade, OJ, I am so sick of buying drinks. I wish everyone would just drink water most of the time. They don't. It's suck a waste of money and has so much sugar and crap in it.

Because their tap water tastes like crap? Has a fishy smell? Is heavily chlorinated? In general it doesn't taste as good as expensive fancy bottled waters?

    I dont know. Personal preference?

Sometimes it gives me a sore throat. Not sure why, but it happens now and then.

My grandparents had a farm and their water was fed by a freshwater spring. It was AMAZING! I could drink that every day of my life. Unfortunately my grandparents are deceased and that property belongs to someone else. Not to mention, I live across the country anyway.

Herbal tea or diet coke are my go to drinks. I do bring a bottle of ice water when I'm working. :)

This. Tap water often tastes like crap.
