Still here!!!! Not much to report, meet some friends to visit an exhibition on death at the weekend so am now fully versed in their wishes for methods of despatch and post death arrangements!!! Morbid I know but discussions we all should have with our loved ones. (Green burial preferred for me, and none of this dying in a hospital thing please)
Anyway, I've been running!!! Or at least attempting c25k again. That's me in the gym more in the last week than in the last year!!
Walking/slightly faster walking what some might call running miles: 21.5/50
cycling:0/40

girlinahat my husband and I are being cremated. We have made all final arrangements as we have no children. My Best friend will carry out our wishes so we have paid for everything. We were honored she agreed too do this for us..
Yesterday husband was off so we did get a small walk in after doing more paperwork in trying too get his up=coming retirement finalized. We only got in 1.5 Walking Miles. Today I got in two separate walks so that did give me 4.5 walking miles....
TOTAL thus far November 10th: 31.5 Walking Miles0 -

[quote="SteveCro;34557259machka9- wife and I are thinking of getting a tandem..??
[/quote]
In 2009, I developed DVT which killed my fitness level, and I really struggled to do what I had been doing (that's when I started gradually putting on a bit of weight too).
In 2010, an acquaintance of ours offered to let Rowan and me try his and his wife's tandem for a few months to see if it might help. I was very sceptical because I'm an independent cyclist who has been riding for decades and I wasn't sure how I would go riding with someone. But it went OK and we covered quite some distance with it ... we liked it enough that we decided to buy our own in early 2011.
We rode it a lot over the next year ... my fitness level improved and I lost a bit of weight ... and then it went into storage as we went through a couple years of travel and moving. We got it out of storage about a year ago, but haven't ridden it much since. We currently live in a very hilly area, and I have a lot of trouble on hills at the best of times, but especially on a tandem. So if we go up north where it is flatter, we take it with us.
Unfortunately, by the time we got it out of storage a year ago, I had put on about 12 kg since the last time we rode it, and I wasn't comfortable. My husband had gained weight too, and he didn't seem particularly comfortable either ... he also seemed to be struggling with the handling a little bit which made me nervous. I just didn't enjoy the ride or two we did.
But this past weekend we decided to give it a go again, and it went quite well. I've lost 24 kg and he's lost about 20 kg, and it seemed to make a difference. He said that the bicycle was so much easier to handle, and I could sense that ... we didn't seem nearly as wobbly.
I still need to sort out some fit issues ... when I was my heaviest, I raised the handlebars on most of my bicycles, including the tandem, because I couldn't breathe leaning forward. Now I'm way too upright, and I've got a lot less padding, and it is causing sciatic nerve pain and back pain.
If you and your wife are thinking about getting a tandem, I'd recommend seeing if you can try one first. Sometimes you can rent them. Pick a nice flat, quiet route and give it a go! Just remember that if you're in front, you need to tell her what's going on. Lots of communication!!
