Hi
Lost 40 pounds.
Now close to a normal weight I can feel my knee bones rubbing together when I sleep on the side.
How long did everyone else take to get used to their weight loss? Its keeping me up at night.
thanks

It can take a little while.
I'm down 54 lbs and where I'm having difficulty is with my clothes. I decide against a particular skirt or something thinking it is going to be way too tight and uncomfortable because that's how it was the last time I wore it ... only to discover it's actually too big now.0 -
Similar story with my ring size. The store owner keeped telling me to try the size 8 but I keeped insisted that I was a 12. Long story short i'm a 8.0

It takes a long time. A couple months to initially get used to your new body (and learn tricks like putting a pillow between your knees, and sometimes having to fold up garments to use as a seat cushion). I learned these things relatively quickly after losing ~15 lbs (on a very petite frame) but I'm still getting used to the thinner version of me, almost 2 years after losing most of that weight. If you've been heavier than you wanted for a long time, it can take a year or so to get used to your new body size and perceiving the proper clothing size, for example!
My weight fluctuates in a 5-lb range. That's very common and to be expected but takes getting used to also.
It helps to know how to sew, or know someone who does, so your favorite clothes can be altered, and to have saved up for some new, properly-fitting clothes while you were losing! And if you are cold all the time, invest in a few really warm, cozy, good-looking garments. These'll help you adjust as well.

I have lost over 80lb so far, think just another 10lb should be where I want to be, (this I know will take a while as I'm still losing just at a slower rate) its been over a year but I still can't believe how far I have come, I don't feel any different, apart from the being able to run up the stairs without collapsing.. Sleeping is a problem with my boney knees, but I'm learning to sleep a different way, also sitting a different way, I have bought thick pj's as well, my only question to others is, how do I tone up my "bat wings" and my baby belly (youngest is 27. Lol). I do have a workout DVD for oldies, I'm 59, any idea how long it will take ?.... Keep up all the good work everyone, x

I've started doing triceps exercises with weights for my "bat wings" and various core exercises for my abdominals ... plus other weightlifting as well. I am kind of a bit wrinkly all over.
As for how long it will take ... I've heard 2 years. So I'm going to continue exercising and weightlifting and try to be patient and see what happens.
But ... I was encouraged yesterday when I said something to my husband about my saggy, wrinkly neck and he told me that it has tightened up noticeably in the last couple months!! He said it did go quite saggy and wrinkly, but isn't bad now. I'm not 100% sure whether I should believe him or if he was just trying to be nice ... but I'll take it.

I have also lost 80 lbs and maintained for about 18 months..... it took about a year to get used to it -- once I had to ask a sales women to get me two pairs of pants -- first a 14, then a 12 -- she originally suggested a 12 when she saw me in the size 16 section but I insisted that I was larger than I was... she was so good about it but I bet she doesn't get that from many customers!! This past summer, the sales women in a store insisted that a small would fit (I used to be XXL) and although I didn't really believe her, I had learned that I should probably just try it on.... and of course it fit. Now I am working on losing the last 15! I have to say that has been the most surprising thing -- that I would need time to get used to the skinny me. Love the skinny me but it did take time for it to sink in!0

Congrats on weight loss! Buy a body pillow and keep it between your knees when you sleep on the side. Helps enormously, not only with you knees but also helps to keep hip alignment in better position.0
