Thank you so much for posting this. While I don't use any assisting devices, I have a chronic pain problem and being disabled makes things very difficult sometimes. About 2 months ago I finally had an epiphany and now I'm feeling much better. I.can mentally deal with my pain which makes it much less intense. I was very fit and in the military at 135lbs. After I was injured and medically discharged it was a 6 year downward spiral. Anyways, thanks for posting! It's great to see.0

Hey, I really needed to read this today.
I have multiple sclerosis, and other neurological issues, so reading all the posts that talk about regular exercise is a must truly gets me a bit depressed.
Even walking is difficult for me most days . . . on my very best days I use a cane, but I also have my walker days and my wheelchair days.
And because of my MS, even doing arm or leg lifts could send me into painful nerve spasms.
I've been using MFP for the past 9 months and have lost 46 pounds, and my goal is to lose 90 more.
(I'm 57 years old, 5 feet even, and my starting weight was 291 pounds.)
MFP has been great, and I'm not really having a problem sticking to my dietary guidelines . . . but can't do the exercises everyone says is necessary to lose a significant amount of weight.
So you really are an inspiration!
I hope you don't mind, but I'm going to request you as a friend here on MFP.

I love getting messages from other disabled people who are going to get to work! No excuses, lots of compassion and learning to listen to your body! Always happy to accept friend requests, just make sure to leave me a little message0

I too am disabled. Between my sedentary lifestyle plus my more caloriesin than out approach lol, my obesity is causing me a lot of additional health issues. I've decided that enough is enough, and 2016 is going to be the year that I get this weight off of my body. Although I also can't exercise the way others can with the strenuous exercises, running, etc. there are some things I can do, like cutting those calories, drinking lots of water -(which I will admit I despise drinking water, but I know it has to be done if I have any chance at succeeding). Hopefully this will help set the weight loss in motion.
I'm just getting started, and I have close to 100 pounds to get rid of. I plan on reading to see exactly what you did to lose the weight that you lost, and may have some questions for you along the way if you don't mind.
I do want to commend you on your weight loss, and say that you look Great. Well done. Losing weight is hard enough for the people who have full body mobility, but for you to do what you did with limited mobility is very impressive and inspiring to everyone. Keep up the great job. Congrats on the marriage. Have a wonderful night!!!3 -
Wow, you have lost so much weight! You look fabulous and so glowing.
Next time I beat myself up over eating cake or missing the gym I will remind myself that it's all about the calories each day.1 -
Hi, I'm so glad I saw this today. I'm idsabled too, part time chair, part time walker with sticks. I had a real wobble yesterday and was even thinking " what's the point". I got up this morning and I've been fairly conscious of my calories and then bam! I see your post
You have given me so much inspiration and helped me to renew my motivation to keep on counting calories, I can't even thank you enough. Without wanting to sound condescending, I am so proud of you. I know I don't know you, but I know disability and I know pain. Not being able to exercise does make a difference, but you have shown that even without it, weight loss can happen
You look absolutely beautiful and your wife is a lucky woman1 -

I don't know what made me think today was the right day to post some photos of my progress, but here we are anyway.
I'm a disabled woman, my impairment was really severe a few years ago and I was constantly in hospital, in ICU unable to breathe. I was in crisis, physically and mentally. And so I decided I needed to do something to take back control, or I'd die.
So I downloaded MFP, added some awesome friends are started calorie counting. It was the first time I'd actually truly understood calories and nutrition properly and things started to click into place. I learnt how to listen to what my body needed and how foods made me feel. For the first year it was just about being under my calories, even if I ate 3 slices of cake. That's what I loved about MFP, there was nothing I couldn't eat as long as I didn't go over my calories. The slowly, as I lost weight, I started to look more carefully at exactly what I was eating, trying to make my macros and thinking specifically about what would help me manage my impairment.
Today, I've not been in ICU for 4 years. I'm 130lbs lighter. My body and I work together to keep me as well as possible whilst still living with a fairly severe impairment. I'm also getting married! All things that seemed forever away 4 years ago.
I have just started to focus more specifically on working out, when I am able to, doing heavily adapted work outs, rather than attempting to lose lots more weight. My goal was 9st, and I'm currently 9st 4lbs.
I weight less that I've lost. I've shed 50% of my body weight. And happiness is off the scale!
To be clear, I willnever be 'finished'. These aren't my 'after' photos by any stretch of the imagination! I was to change my body for the better, always.
Photos!
I was wearing a UK size 26
Wearing a size 20/22 here, this is when I really decided I could do this and went at it properly!
This is the day I knew the woman I'd met would be my wife. That I had so much I wanted to live for and that if I worked hard I could *actually* live!
Excuse the selfies, I don't have tons of full length photos! This photos was my 32nd birthday, and I'm wearing a UK size 8 shirt!
I can't wait to be able to post again, with more changes to my health, wellbeing and body. You can follow me on Instagram too (@Brizzle__Kicks)
Thanks for looking!

Amazing! You are gorgeous! Congratulations to you and your fiance too.0

You look amazing! And your positive attitude is so refreshing - thank you for sharing your story!0

You are an incredibly inspiring woman!! You should be so proud of yourself for turning your life around so dramatically. It certainly puts able bodied citizens with a lack of will power to shame. You look fantastic in every one of your pictures, both at your larger size and your current weight, but you can clearly see an extra sparkle in your latest photo. You look amazing and congratulations on your wedding too.
I wish you all the best on your wedding day and for you contined dedication to your health. I have a similar amount of weight to lose myself and if I look as good as you do when I reach on goal, I'll know I've done well0 -
