I have noticed a lot of people on MFP like greek yougurt. I've never tried it (or even heard of it until today!!!)
What is it all about? Is it easy to find? What is the nutritional comparison to normal yogurt?

I bought a single cup of it today and plan on trying it in the morning. Wanna know what all the hype is about!0
-
Twice the protein and delicious!0
-
I wanted to know what all the hype was about too, so I bought some. I didn't like it at all, except for the texture. The flavor is just "off" to me.0
-
It has two to three times the protein as regular yogurt. It took me a time to get used to it but I love it now.0
-
It depends on the brand, its thicker and stronger flavored than regular.. I can only eat Chobani, its good, I have some store brand, dannon and Yoplait stuff that tasted like wall paper paste.
Its got a lot more protein in it than regular yogurt.0 -
I wasnt liking at first but after trying TONS of different brands, my favorite is the Oikos vanilla greek yogurt. The regular cup is 110 calories and 15g of protein.. I put in fresh fruit and it doesnt taste so yucky as the other ones.0

It is very delicious and lower in sugar/higher in protein than normal yogurt It is made using a different process and is thicker/creamier than other yogurts. If you get the plain kind, it tastes JUST like sour cream (I use it in place of sour cream actually on things like enchiladas), but there are lots of flavored varieties that are good (though watch the sugar on those! hehe)
I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE honey greek yogurt... it is like a dessert. So creamy and yummy! I like oikos and fage, they are the best brands. If you are new to strange yogurt products, I also really like kefir. It is like a runny variety of greek yogurt and is perfect for making dips and putting into shakes!!0 -
Oh yeah, the small ones are 80 calories and 11g of protein. If y ou go onto their website, you can print some coupons :-)0

I just recently starting eating it and I like it a lot. Greek yogurt is thicker than regular yogurt. I'm not a yogurt expert, but I think it has something to do with straining more of the whey out when it's made. Nutritionally a huge difference is that greek yogurt has a lot of protein in it- around 15 grams per 6 oz.
I like the brand Chobani. I get the non-fat ones, which are around 120 calories or so. They have a bunch of flavors and I haven't had one that I didn't like yet, but my favorites are honey and pomegranate.
It's pretty easy to find I think. I've seen it at every grocery store I've looked at and some of them are pretty small stores in fairly rural areas.0 -
If the texture bothers you try putting it on a bagel the way you would cream cheese. That's how I got used to the texture and now I love it!0
-
Tastes spoiled to me. I have tried several. But I hear lots of great things about it!0
-
Usually has 12-20g of protein per serving. Does have a different taste than regular almost bitter.
Really depends on what brand you buy, some are really good and others are horrible. I personally like liberte, and I will add some fruit to it as well. I love it though0 -
I like it for the protein too but plain Greek yogurt (like Fage 0%) would make a good substitute for sour cream.
To eat plain I like Chobani ones-pineapple, cherry, etc. But I do get Fage and blend it with frozen berries and milk for a smoothie and, like everyone mentioned, getting more protein is my goal.0 -
A lot more protein, and much thicker than regular yogurt. I've only tried the fat-free kind, but I'm thinking I might give the 2% a shot as well since the fat-free tends to need some sweetener + fruit with it.0
-
I LOVE Fage and Chobani. I like mine plain...however that takes some getting used to if you're used to eating the flavored sweetened types. I do add honey on occasion.0
-
*double post, whoops.0
-
I didn't like the taste at first. Now it's the only type of yogurt I will eat.0

I just bought and tried my first tub. It was Presidents Choice honey flavored and it was alright - I really like the texture of it. It's very creamy. I haven't tried any other kind - can't find much selection in a small town grocery store.0

Zoi is my FAVORITE!!!!
I've tried Chobani, but I didn't like it.....my son liked his chobani - maybe mine went bad (??). But I LOVE, LOVE the Zoi Honey flavored - pretty dense calorie wise, but very tasty! I do use the FF Zoi for my smoothies, cakes, and other cooking...0 -
I have Greek Yogurt often and stay full for hours! My favorite recipe is as follows:
2/3 cup Greek Yogurt (my favorite is Fage 2/%)
1 tablespoon blackberry Polaner All fruit or no sugar added jam - fold into yogurt
1/2 cup fresh blueberries on top
sprinkle with 1 tablespoon of ground Flax seed
Yummo this is good!0 -
I get the dannon's brand
it may not taste delicious at first. but when you are on a move, and need something quick. perfect for calories, low on carb, and high in protein. and if you really still dont like it. add a little of honey and some fruits and BAM!!! you will notice. its a different feel to it. and not only that. you start to like it and bam!!! you are HOOKED!0 -
I heard great things about it, too, and finally tried it for myself a few months ago. I absolutely LOVE it! I must warn you that the plain flavor is kind of strange tasting if you are expecting the traditional "American" yogurt. It is a lot thicker (which I prefer) and almost has a sour cream taste to it. My favorite brand is the Fage yogurt (you can find it almost everywhere including generic markets and Trader Joe's) and I take them to work for breakfast. My favorite flavor is the 2% with Honey but the other fruit flavors are delicious as well. I like them not only because they taste great but because they pack a lot of Protein and are low in fat. I highly recommend trying it out!0

I tried Chobani and absolutely loved it so I've not tried other brands. I get the plain non-fat, I've tried the ones with fruit but found I didn't like them at all. I do put the plain on fresh fruit though and it's great.
It is thicker and has a much stronger taste.0 -
I eat supermarket's own fat free version with frozen berries, it's lovely!
I also mix it with my tuna.0 -
So it sounds like I am going to get some of this tomorrow (pay day) when I go get my groceries!!
I am worried about the calories though... I am eating Source 35 cals / 100 g yogurt right now and I think it is one of the lowest calorie yogurts.
But I guess I can try this greek yogurt thing - need the protein!0 -
Natural greek yoghurt with fruit is lovely and so very good for you!0
-
I love Greek yogurt. It's thick kinda like sour cream and has a bit of a tang to it but its not over powering. I love it with mixed berries or sliced banana for breakfast. The brand I buy is 140 cals, 0 fat and 16 gr of protein for 175 grams, you get more per serving and its a thicker yogurt so it fills you up more. I used to eat the 35 cal Source to but I really prefer the Greek yogurt now.
We are a bit limited on brands up here but hopefully soon we will more kinds so I can find one with a bit less sugar.0 -
Agree re: honey yogurt! Over the top delish.0
-
Once you find a brand and flavor(s) you enjoy, try finding them at a wholesale club. My CostCo store carries Chobani (my favorite); I eat two cups of Greek yogurt a day, as my mid-morning and mid-afternoon snacks, so buying in bulk makes dollars-and-cents!0

If you want to save a LOT of money, buy a quart of store brand of regular plain nonfat yogurt ($1.67 at a discount store). Line a strainer with a paper towel, put it over a bowl, and dump in the yogurt. Let it sit for about an hour, and about one cup of whey will drain off. Then I put it back into the original container. You can sweeten it a bit, if you want - try mixing in a tablespoon of raw sugar or honey. I also like to cook down fruit, like peaches or strawberries, with no added sugar, and mix it into the yogurt.
If you let it drain longer you get a sour cream thickness. Overnight, you get cream cheese.0
